This really helps to get the healing started for sure ! Eventually I needed to also work on diaphragmatic breathing because mine was a slipping hernia which means it would slip back up regularly… be careful not forcing your inhales and exhales, try to do them relaxed, contrary to what some people say about needing some compression of the abs, this actually made mine slip back up every time … I was dealing with chronically tight abs , probably due to stress. So I actually needed expansion AND relaxation of the abdominals.working on posture works well aswell, being overly slouched can compress the abs and make it slip back up. Hope this helps someone
Thanks it is helpful.. can I do some abs to avoid having a slouched belly. Or it would slide up also . Cause I was a tennis player and stopped for 2 years and my body strength decreased.
I suffered for years and this was amazing. The very first time I did the water exercise, I felt instant relief and burped so loud I thought I was going to throw up and then I did the pushing down exercise. My GERD/Hiatal Hernia is so bad I can't even raise my voice at all. Today was the first time I could talk normally in a long time. I can't believe this. Doc...THANK YOU.
Oh man. You're a lifesaver. I tried crossing my arms and landing on my heels and it didnt help. Tried pushing on the spot with my thumb and other hand to push. Nothing was helping. Ive felt like i was being choked for a week. Really bad the last couple days. I did the heel drop and on the second one I felt a sharp sensation and then almost an instant release in my upper abdomen under my ribs. I can breathe better again. Doesnt feel like throat trying come up through the back of mouth. Thank you.

I was diagnosed with hiatus hernia several years ago. I have no symptoms and Gerd has not been an issue. Just recently an endoscopy procedure was carried out in connection with low Hb/ferritin levels and the haematologist seems dubious about my insistence that I have no hiatus hernia symptoms. I'm of the opinion that years of Yoga controlled breathing techniques have controlled the usual discomfort attributed to the condition. I will incorporate this therapy in my daily routine and thank you so much for sharing.

Dr. Joe It’s great to hear that you have seen and felt the improvements and that your doctor was able to notice them on the sonograph. When you are breathing out and push into your abdomen you may only need to pull down one to 2 inches, but may feel the benefit going all the way down to just above the bellybutton. You will likely feel a gentle sensation of the stomach pulling down, so whatever is most comfortable for you. I pray the exercises continue to have significant benefits for you. Have a great day! They can be done any time. Many people find the most benefit right after eating to assist the stomach from pushing upwards from being full with food. Others benefit when it is empty, or even after drinking some water, to create a little bit of weight to assist pulling down. I hope you find which approach works best for you.
It really is different for everyone. Some people find major relief after a single exercise. Others may do it a few times a day o feel the best results. I do hope you find them helpful and quickly! God bless to you as well 😊 🙏🏻
Many people find improved ability to eat without food getting “stuck” if they do it before. However, in most cases, people will find most relief if doing it afterwards.
In many cases improved a variety of improved eating habits, taking digestive enzymes, hydrochloric acid, and/or probiotics, in conjunction with gentle, adjusting of it when it’s irritated, can allow the hernia and esophagus to heal and maybe prevent having to go further with surgery depending on how severe the starting situation is.
Definitely having a reduction in abdominal weight can help because it doesn’t put as much pressure upwards into the diaphragm. Also, eating smaller meals to not stretch the stomach as much can allow the sphincter and the area around it to start return to its normal function.
Greetings from Germany Dr. Joe, I found a similar video weeks ago and tried it out, it definitely helps! But one question is keeping me awake, the Diaphragm is not built like a solid sheet, but rather more like a alot of fibers interwoven in each other. So my question is can it damage the diaphragm and increase the hernia size? Thank you in Advance!
Hi Jeff. Sorry for a delay in response. That’s a great question! The muscles of the diaphragm are usually quite strong due to their constant use in respiration. However, some people that are not very active or who breathe very shallow with the upper muscles of the chest versus engaging in diaphragmatic breathing may have weaker muscles and should at least be conscious of that. With that said the maneuver should not be done that forcibly where it is painful. If done with mild to moderate pressure there should not be a risk of worsening the hernia. In fact if the stomach is able to remain in its normal position it should allow the body to heal better around where the hernia may be occurring. But always listen to your body if it ever becomes more painful and seek out a qualified doctor to further evaluate. I hope this helps answer your question. 😊

I think first fix the hernia, and then acidify your stomach with betain HCl or apple cider vinegar...see dr eric berg videos for a detail explanation
after the first exercise, we immediately do the second one with pressure on the stomach?
yes--the second exercise may also be done by itself.
