@@Bondy94 Great remix! (And something went wrong with the upload, so I had to re-upload it - full interview will go live on Saturday now instead #oops)
Thank Twan & Michael! Great interview & great classic track. I remember exactly first I heard it on the Future Trance vol.15 compilation back in the may 2001. I still have it by the way =)
An awesome interview with some interesting insights into the production and how it grew in popularity. It was technically the first Trance tune I had on CD as it was featured on NOW! 48
I'm happy to say I once had the chance to visit Street Dance Records in Copenhagen. I also had the pleasure of seeing Safri Duo live at Roskilde festival, and it was amazing.
Such a nostalgic track, everytime i hear it i get flashbacks from the year 2000. I think the best version is the Airscape remix followed by the Tandu remix. I think however Safri Duos best track is the follow up Samb Adagio. I would love to hear an interview about that track as well. Also their remix of Marc Et claude - Tremble is really cool (wish there was a dub version tho)
@@muzikxpress unfortunately no, it closed like 20 years ago. I went there every week to get new records. One day one of the guys told me that they should close. It was the 1. of April, so I thought it was an April Fool’s joke. But no… They couldn’t keep up with the MP3’s back then, I guess.
Great interview! Thank you for this. I loved this song when it came out, I was a fan in Canada. I still have the Episode II album on CD. I love hearing about the creative process that goes into creating the tracks and what it's like to experience the success from their side. I'd love to see interviews for anything related to ATB, Vengaboys, or Culture Beat (Mr. Vain, Crying in the Rain, and Inside Out were my favorites), they were my favorite groups from the 90s.
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed the interview! I already requested an interview with ATB, but unfortunately I got a “no”…. Same with Wessel van Diepen from the Vengaboys, he loves the channel and we email every once in a while, but he doesn’t do any interviews unfortunately. And I’m a huge fan of Culture Beat as well, but as you might know their producer / founder Torsten Fenslau sadly died in a car crash in 1993. Working on some other 90s related things for 2024 though!
So sad to hear about ATB. My especially beloved producer in 90s-00s...As I know, we still don't have the exact answer why it was called "9pm" with some versions about it. around).
@@iankirmann yeah unfortunately I don’t always get the replies I would like when I’m asking people for an interview. But we have to respect it when people don’t want to do an interview..
In Poland, ice cream company Algida used song Played-A-Live in their TV commercial, therefore many people in Poland know it as "Algida song". This is one advert: ua-cam.com/video/YAzODrkjnMU/v-deo.html Second one is here: ua-cam.com/video/gKkwGlZwhbA/v-deo.html
I will have to add a few comments to how this song came along. I have heard many years ago, that Safri Duo wére inspired by SING SING SING (Benny Goodman / Gene Krupa), and I can also hear similarities from the 1959 melody BONGO ROCK by Preston Ebbs. Take a listen yourself . ua-cam.com/video/FBZJlVeEVeI/v-deo.html
I've always wondered why this song has such horrific production quality. There must be a very specific and niche reason that the audio sounds so clippy and distorted and horribly mixed. His other songs prove that he knew what he was doing, so why does it sound like he recorded it by playing it through a boom box and a recording with a portable recorder? It's a bit mind blowing that my comment is the only one asking this, since the horrible audio quality is the first thing that stands out when listening to the song. It's such a great song too, which makes it extra annoying that I feel like my speakers are breaking when it plays. Edit: the bits about the live play seem to give clues, but I'm still confused about why the recording quality is so bad. Did they record audio through speakers at a live venue instead of using Midi or a direct line for everything or what? The more you think about it, the weirder it is. I was hoping this interview would have cleared things up but it didn't.
To be honest , played a live has never been my favorite. even though it's a very well done piece of music, but I always treated it as a commercial pop song, which unfortunately irritates me today. I prefer Michael Parsbergs's other projects especially Evolution with Tukan
What is your favorite version / remix of "Played-A-Live (The Bongo Song)"?
Commented on the last one but has to be the Tandu mix for me

It is indeed, Im looking forward to watching this one@@muzikxpress
For me still the Original Club Mix
Tandu and Airscape Remixes. If we talk chilled versions check out Spanish Fly´s remix. 2 Danish house guys who also remixed Mary J´s Family Affair! :)
Was a big HIT here in Portugal too!

OLA Love 2 Dance ;)
We're gona need that 10 min version now
Thank you to Michael Parsberg for this creation. I still making music today because of this kind of song. It was a very creative song.
I walked passed one FIFA building at Vancouver in 2010 and it played this track!
Parsberg is such a legend. He did some amazing stuff as Fairlite. He really deserves all the success he's had.
As always great interview!
Thank you very much!
A nice interview, Twan. Good job. It was a fun listen. "Played-a-live" is one of my favorites. I love the bongo sounds.
Thanks so much, very happy Michael was willing to share the story behind this classic.
I still play the melody on my jp8000 soemtimes :D Can't really get it out of my head.... even after these years.

And I love especially the long version of it
Amazing interview! I had no idea he was part of Pegboard Nerds! I absolutely adore their remix of Witchcraft by Pendulum! 💙
Amazing interview! I love the knowledge I learn from all of these. Shoutout Vincent, though. Would be nice to hear new music from him one day.
@@jongaler887 thank you! And same, but VDM left the music business ages ago unfortunately and I doubt that he will ever come back …. 🥲

Lol, another good interview. If only there was a Coco song then you could play the coco and the bongo of coco bongo.
Thank you!
Street Dance Records - legendary 🤘

Brilliant interview. Some amazing in depth information. Especially Rank 1 superior to Ferry Corsten.
Thank you so much!
The drunk kid struggling in the public bathroom and banging his head to this song is probably the best version of the song.
Thanks so much for these interviews

Caucasuss - Our Dream, Little Jam - Flaming Star
What!? Hes in pegboard nerds? Thats blown my mind
Haha yes he is!!!
even jean michel jarre invited safri dou too play with him
Maybe you can do Exploration of Space from Cosmic Gate :)
Would love to, tried to make that happen a few times already during the years, but so far no luck…. 😕
where was the video filmed who were the actors
Why play it after the beat if you can just put on a headphone with the track delayed?
Probably doesn’t work since they are playing live so it’s never 100% identical as a pre-recorded version from DAT or so.

I like how he said pineapple pizza is the most common problem he has to decide on when touring!
