Although I live in the sticks I have signed up as a host. It might be helpful for someone passing by and desperate for a charge!

This is perfect, we have to change our whole aspect in regards to car driving and filling up.

The last topic about EVs polluting more than FFVs has been going ever since the earliest revival of the EV, back in the GM EV1 days. I remember even the pilot episode of Robert Llewellyn's Fully Charged, a decade ago, dissected it and threw the argument out for the rubbish it was. EVs are cleaner and better.

I'm on as a host now, but I wish I'd known about this when I first got my EV, it would have made the first month so much easier. Dealerships should be advising new owners really.

Totally agree with you. Most Main Dealers are only interested in selling the car to you and receiving your cash.

Great idea ................ but all it does is emphasise how the government are conning us regarding the use of EV's. Still a lack of infra structure and no consideration to those who cant charge at home or indeed those who may have the driveway/off road but could be renting. Would love to see some figures of the population who have off road as apposed to terraced/flats etc but I'm sure that will be difficult to get, wonder why???

Sadly in West Somerset I'd have to drive 20 mins and walk back!😢

All sounds “wonderful” at the moment, but in 5 years time when you want to sell your car who will buy a used car with only 2/3 years of battery warranty left on it. Ask the dealer just out of curiosity how much a replacement battery would cost. THEY CANT TELL YOU because that situation is a long way off according to them.
This hosting enabling other people to use your electricity and then walking back home is nonsense because they also block your access to the charging point. Paying the host for usage will eventually create argument and tension. Having to inform towns that are introducing ULEZ before you enter is a joke that was skipped over quickly.

I am so pleased to have found this episode. Thank you.
A friend and I are just about to acquire our joint first ev. I do not drive but my partner does and my friend does. Neither of us uses a car daily but we both have occasional needs. We had worked out that we can share a car and then I wondered if an EV would work. He has a driveway so there is an off-road charging opportunity and he uses the car more frequently than we would anyway.
We were just going to fit an outdoor socket but now ...
Let's see what he thinks. In our area there are a few owners but only one place to charge.

It is NOT a question of hanging on to a "grain of truth" about EVs, it is a question of trying to get EV advocates to understand that they are NOT as green as they have been led to believe and the facts back it up. For example, several car manufacturers have claimed that the initial manufacturing process is much higher than that of an ICE car and Volvo claimed, using their XC60 as the comparison models, you would have to drive 70,000 miles in an EV before the emissions became less than that of an ICE. Are Volvo lying? There are countless other issues to consider, some related, some not, but that's not the point of my post. The point is people like myself are sick and tired of being treated like idiots and fobbed off with every claim made poo-pood by the EV clan. We're not the ones believing the words of an industry that are notorious for twisting the truth (or just downright lying) in order to sell their product. We're not the ones being used as guinea pigs to get this new evolution off the ground. And we're not stupid, so stop acting like you're all saving the planet while we're the ones with our heads in the sand. I have nothing against EVs, I just want the truth and I want to stop being treated like an idiot just because I don't believe the hype. The guy even admits the public are misinformed. That means ALL of us, not just those of us who don't want an EV.

Yes lets all buy a car then walk a mile or two a day to charge it up was a load of bollocks

If you are charging daily perhaps not but he is charging weekly. And it is a mere mile: be reasonable, eh?

@@michaelgoode9555 How about when you need the car and it's lashing it down. That's one of the reasons people use cars rather than public transport in the first place. If you're going to have to walk a mile to collect your car, why aren't you using public transport? You might as well.
