It's very interesting to see the two players juxtaposed next to each other. I generally don't like this kind of "Battle" thing...but this could be a good tool for teaching intermediate students some things. Kenny tends to be "tight" or "tighter". He powers things out with tension through his technique, but it makes for a strong impact. Joe is a little more relaxed but still has some of the "tight" execution in his technique. Both players have obviously studied rudimental drumming. Joe's playing seems a little more creative to me and there are direct references to the great jazz drummers of the past in both of the players. If we can take anything away from their wonderful performances it would be to contrast and compare flow, technique, sound/tone, and dynamics.
