We were under the impression that the Worst Gen were catching up to the Emperors, but Shanks came in to shut that idea down.
Kaido and Big Mom were either going easy on the Worst Gen or they simply got old.
To be fair, kaido fought a 1v9 before fighting a 2v4 and then he fought luffy 1v1. If anything kaido proved that he was a tough mofo. But big mom really is a fraud haha. I give big mom this, she has a yonko level intelligence system.

Actually they were trying to recruit. Kaido offered several of them to work with him, including Luffy. And same goes for BM, thats why she got Capone and wanted the Vinsmokes.. Meanwhile Shanks has only been offering Marco to join him.
BM was probably going easy but towards the end of the fight kaido wasn’t. And BM did state she would need the help of the giants to fight shanks not take out but to fight him. So that also shows the amount of power output shanks has.
Kaido and Big Mom are monster with power and skill but they don't utilities precision and skills. Shanks has power, skill and precision.
And this is why we call him Buggy D Clown, the strongest yonko, kid got destroyed while buggy would be blissfully unaware of his attack hitting and doing no damage

People seem to forget that Shanks stopped a war just by showing up. The Marines were at their own HQ, with all three Admirals, the Fleet Admiral, and powerful fighters like Garp. They had faced Whitebeard and his fleet without hesitation, but just Shanks and his crew made the Marines tap out. Shanks is just built different.
Also don't forget Mihawk. But maybe they tapped out because they didn't want to lose any of their major players. I don't think that the marines would have been fully wiped out back then, but they would have definitely lost some of their main guys and maybe they weren't willing to take that risk after already having suffered so many casualties.

Back in Marineford, Black Beard wasn't even on the level of a severely old, severely ill, and severely injured Whitebeard, while Shanks showed up and instantly stopped the war. I'm pretty sure that that scar happened when they were *very* young, Shanks is just too broken as he is now to be compared to Blackbeard.

My personal opinion only:
Shanks attacks can not be treated as pure swordsmanship as using sword and Haki doesn't mean you're exceptionally strong in swordsmanship. However the argument is valid: if you can't cut through a haki cladded sword, there is no benefit in calling yourself the strongest swordsman
My gut tells me that Law will die at the hands of Blackbeard and that pretty much leaves Luffy either facing Blackbeard or Shanks for the crown.
