TURN SIGNAL Not Working But BULB is GOOD - Blinker Diagnosis & FIX - Honda Odyssey

  • When the passenger side turn signal started blinking super fast, I figured it was a blown bulb and an easy fix...Just replace the bulb, right? Not this time! Join me as we try to diagnose why the passenger side front turn signal won't light up even though the bulb is perfectly fine. It took me a few hours to sort it all out, but I have condensed it down to 12 minutes for you! Hope this helps, and I thank you for watching. Please feel free to comment, like, dislike, or whatever. I had the exact same problem with my 2009 Odyssey. My mechanic did his diagnosis and at first thought it was a bad socket, but replacing it didn't help. He eventually thought there was an issue with the fuse box multiplexer that would have to be programmed by the dealership. I wasn"t convinced and showed him your video and asked him to checkout the grounding point. A couple of the wires broke when removing the screw, but he soldered the broken wires and heat wrapped them and used some dielectric grease on the contacts and PRESTO, my front right turn signal is working again. Thanks again for the great video!

      @@Buckwsr This was an intermittent problem that the dealer service people couldn't diagnose because it was working when I had the car in for other service. The very next day it stopped working again (intermittently). I couldn't detect a ground through the ground side of the bulb socket. I then discovered that the bulb socket was a two piece arrangement that I was able to disconnect. It turns out that the bulb socket has two pins that plug into a wire socket. I put a small wire into the ground pin hole and reconnected the parts. Success! So far, so good after almost two days. Thanks again!

      @@Buckwsr Thank you! Yesterday I did a few tests, but I'm not sure if I done it correctly. First, the bulb is working. And my socket definitely gets + voltage because when bulb is connected to the positive socket pin and to the battery negative, it works perfectly. I located the ground where you showed it, but it seemed the continuity test was fine there. I need to repeat it one more time today. Also I removed the bolt, cleaned it with metal brush and slightly played with that ground connection. It felt pretty solid. So I'll try to check it one more time later today. Worst case I'll have to run a wire directly from the negative battery terminal to that black wire going into turn signal connector.

    • @Buckwsr
      @Buckwsr  2 роки тому +1

      @@yolo-cars Test to see if you have ground connection at the turn signal bulb socket. You didn't mention whether or not you did that. Supplying ground to that socket from another location is an okay solution, I think, as a last resort. Good luck.

      @@Buckwsr I'll do a test later today. At least I remember I tried to hook the bulb to the positive battery terminal on one side and to the ground connection in the socket on another side, but there was no light. I assume there was no ground. I'll try to perform the continuity test of the ground later today. I want to hook negative battery terminal with that ground point on the bottom right of the car. Also I'll try to perform continuity test of that black wire itself.

    My 16’ chevy Cruze had some electrical problems some of the fuses under the hood don’t have power to them.. i tested them. Some light up when contacted and some don’t. I replaced all the mini fuses and still not getting power when checked.. 2 of the turn signals, brake light, horn, power outlets don’t work and engine worn turn on. No crank at all. Also windows won’t roll down from front driver side and passenger, but the rear windows work only on their doors. Won’t work from the master control. But dash lights up and front lights work. Any suggestive leads to take?

      My honest gut reaction to your note is that you are in way over your head and need to get some professional help to sort out this list of problems with your vehicle. Get it towed to a reputable shop. Chances are that there is one significant issue, which, once identified and resolved, will fix most if not all of these multiple electrical problems. Good luck.

    Rear Passenger turn signal bulb flashes rapidly and front passenger turn signal bulb does not light up at all
    Front passenger Bulb is good because
    Neg battery alligator clip to front bulb and bulb to positive terminal of socket……bulb flashes
    Pos battery alligator clip to front bulb and bulb to bulb socket ground……light constantly on.
    Related or not the front passenger headlamp does not work but the passenger running light works.
    .?? A larger grounding issue?? That cluster of ground wires under car looked ok.
    I tried Continuity testing and got no response but that may just mean I don’t know what I’m doing…..
    No fuses were blown. I assume Relay is ok since got flashing in the test.

    I have the same problem with a rear turn signal on my 2006 Tacoma and on my 2011 Camry. I couldn’t figure it out, until now. You’re a genius! Thanks so much. Awesome! 👍🏻👍🏻

    Thank you and now I know I’m not going crazy.. I’ve changed the bulb three times this year on the same light signal passenger side and I literally just bought a new light period. I put it in and the very next day on a brand spanking new light it did it too. So of course something else is causing this problem. So thx so much for this video and it looks like it’s going to be a shop fix because I certainly don’t know that much about cars so I definitely wouldn’t try to take any wires loose to diagnose.. But at least I can stop taking my bumper off to get to this lamp just to replace a bulb. 2005 SRX 👍🏻😊♥️

    One of my headlights has been out for a few wks, my 4-ways still function properly bulb wise and dash wise, but my turn signals for both sides will stop working spontaneously. I replaced the 4-way button back in August as well as the actual turn signal switch entirely.
    Any ideas as to what this is because I could turn the 4-ways on while driving and sometimes it will cause the signals to work again momentarily.
    Thanks in advance

    I don’t have a Honda but 2013 Kia Sorento- thought putting in new bulb would solve my rapid blink problem- didn’t work! Thought I would have to take it to electrical mechanic shop but searched and found your video. Looked for ground wire on body but it was shared with horn that works. My directional bulb goes into a socket with contacts that rotate into place. Looking at socket the ground contact looked a little bent so adjusted it and rotated back into headlight housing and it works. Thanks for setting me on the right path even if it wasn’t the exact same fix!

    Thanks for sharing this. I have a similar problem on a 2000 Tundra but the left turn signal only flashes faster when I step on the brake. The truck had a camper shell with turn signals and brake lights and the wiring was installed by the installation team at the place I purchased it from. If corrosion (or a wire with limited continuity) caused your problem, maybe the wires spliced into the brake and turn signal lighting are causing my issue.

      Yes, aftermarket add-ons are often the culprit in strange electrical issues, unfortunately.

    Great video. Thanks for sharing. I found your video while searching a problem with the turn signal on my 2006 Honda Pilot. When I use the left turn signal to make a short left turn the signal does not always cancel when completing the turn. The left signal does cancel on a longer turn of the wheel. The right signal cancels after both a shallow and deep turn. I replaced the flasher switch arm but it made no difference. Would appreciate any suggestions. Best regards. 😊

      I'm pretty sure the mechanism that turns off the signal after a turn is located inside the steering column, and would require removing the steering wheel to access it. Possibly more trouble than it's worth.

    Very nice video and explanation!
    I have the same exact issue on my 2008 Nissan Altima
    The only difference is that I have this problem for both front turn signals
    My question is, do I have to look on the other side for that other ground wire or are they all in the same place like you showed on the video?
    Thanks in advance

    • @Buckwsr
      @Buckwsr  Рік тому +1

      I don't know how your vehicle is set up, or if both front turn signals share the same ground. A wiring diagram might be helpful, or an online search to see if other Altima owners have any experience with that same problem. Good luck.

    I'm having a similar issue. With a new fuse, my right turn signals work perfectly. As soon as I try to turn on the right signals, the fuse blows. Any ideas on where to start troubleshooting? The bulbs are all good. :|

    • @Buckwsr
      @Buckwsr  Рік тому +1

      Sounds like you've got a short somewhere. Could be anywhere from the fuse box to the steering column turn signal switch to the bulbs...or anywhere along the way. A wiring diagram of the turn signal circuit would seem to be essential now for troubleshooting your issue. Good luck!
