  • To celebrate the release of my brand new National Best Selling book - My Money My Way: Taking Back Control of Your Financial Life, I am continuing a six-day Mini-Lesson event. Every day for six days, I will be sharing some financial building blocks from my new book!
Are you ready to start transforming your finances?
Today's My Money My Way Mini-Lesson is all about attacking your debt. We will be creating a plan to decrease your debt, and I will be giving helpful tips for getting rid of debt once and for all.
To get a daily mini-lesson reminder, make sure you turn on notifications and subscribe to my channel.
Let's start a new financial journey - YOUR WAY!
Day 5: My Money My Way Mini-Lesson: Attack Your Debt
    1. Paying off debt isn’t just about the payments.
    2. What feelings do you have towards your debt?
    3. There is no right or wrong way to pay off debt.
    ----
    Your Homework:
    1. Face your debt head on by understanding your debt picture. Make a list of ALL your debt. Write down the creditor, interest rate, minimum payment and due date, and overall balance for each debt.
    2. How will you attack your debt? Choose a method. This can be the avalanche or snowball method OR a method you come up with.
    3. Implement, update, and inspect. Based on your budget and method that you choose to use to pay off your debt, make sure to include your debt payments in your budget and spending plan.

Miko, we paid off our last debt today!! We are debt free! Hallelujah! It took us over two years, but we did it. Your Budget by Paycheck method was life changing, and your videos were so encouraging. I can't believe we did it, but I am so happy that we can now tackle our savings goals and no longer have the weight of debt on our backs.

Miko, I have followed you for awhile as a stay at home mom with no income of my own. Now that I work from home, I started my own budget this year. I went to the website provided to check my credit that I started building this past year with student aid. Thinking I was only $3,000 in debt, just to find out $10,000 in debt. I set up my monthly payment for my biggest debt. Starting the 23rd of this month. I am excited to start this debt free journey!!! I’m set for 2023, thank you so much for these videos!

Miko that was a powerful lesson. I really would love if you would do an in depth video (or maybe a 2nd book) all about your financial journey in more detail. I think about you paying off all that debt AND saving enough money to buy your dream house in cash and I can't see how it would have been possible. I mean maths is maths - you can only be so creative! I think it would help me and help a lot of people if you could really show us how you accomplished so much.

I am so glad i came across these videos!! I have been struggling on knowing how to do a monthly budget. My husband doesnt want to sit with me and go over numbers together. He just lives life day by day and after taking the dave ramsey class i have been more frugal with money where he hasnt. I have decided that i want us to be debt free within 2 years. I want a differant house within 5 years and i want to own a cabin on a lake withing 10 years..
We both get paid weekly but our intake varies from week to week. So finding this paycheck to paycheck method has lowered my anxiety a bit knowing i can asssign my money where it needs to go. Doing a monthly budget just confused me because of the varied money we bring in. Now i can sit every friday and assign it before we spend it!! Thank you miko for breaking things down for me and the visual aid to get me started!! ❤

I like the idea of a combo approach personally. I understand that people want to save on unnecessary money leaving their hands but for me I need some sort of progress. If I can knock out a debt source in a few months, that is motivation to me to keep going because I've seen progress and I want to see more then jump to the high interest items with that much extra money each month. But that is how my mind works! I need some gratification or else I give up.

In Canada for the last 10-15y our credit card statements must by law clearly state how long it will take you to pay off your debt if you pay the minimum payment every month. Of course that’s if you don’t accumulate more! It’s quite a slap to see that you’ll be paying off those Whatevers for 23 years!! 😳🇨🇦

Same with me... I just got divorced a couple months ago. Walked out of my own house after abuse and he cheated. I was a child of divorced parents and it was horrible... never wanted that for my son. :/. Plus all the emotional shock damage it does to you and makes you feel like you're not a good mom or yourself. I feel like I couldn't live in the moment w him for a while my head was not okay. Now that's my goal is moments w him and saving. And not putting him in the middle of my emotional pain.

I also prefer the avalanche method and it made me mad to see the interest. If you are - for example - 70k in debt for 1.5 percent interest rate per year only, hell! But I agree, if you struggle woth money, to find momentum and to experience quick progress, the snowball method is a great method to start with. Nice work, Miko! 😍

Good start with being honest with how much you owe, and having a plan to start paying it off. I made my own debt payment trackers with a piece of grid paper I had leftover from school, and colored in my payments as I made them to keep myself motivated. You will feel so proud of yourself when you see progress, and you can prove to yourself and your mom that you may have made a bad decision once, but overall you are making a commitment to making it right again.
