    I am not a mom. I am a single man. Just turned 30. I am embarrassed that I have no solid money or too many assets at all. Pay check to pay check kind of living for most my life. It's not like I haven't had the opportuties to make great money because I have, I just lacked the discipline and some knowledge. BUT I feel the tides changing in my soul. I just found your channel I'll probably refer back to it now! Valauble information and I love the visuals of how you are literally and physically tracking your money flow. Thanks for the inspiration, as different as we are, we really aren't! : ) I feel ready for change.

    I have one savings account for all my sinking fund pots and £1,000 Emergency Fund. I track the amount in each of the 30 or so pots using an Excel spreadsheet. I know it might seem excessive but it's worked for me for a few years now. Various funds include: Holidays, Xmas, Birthdays, House Repairs, Car, Weddings, Eating Out, New Tech, Garden, visiting the kids, phone, window cleaner etc. To the bank it's 1 savings account, to me it's 30 pots each with a purpose 😀.

      @@MsSarahJam exactly and I am trying to instill in my children that if they want to save £10,000 look on it as saving £1 on 10,000 occasions. That way they see it as much more achievable.
      The easy example i always give them is freezing a bottle of water each night and take it to work for chilled drinks the following day rather than using a vending machine. The fact it starts the day frozen means it is never drunk all at once and lasts most if not all of the day.

      An emergency fund does not mean the money is not invested, it only mean that you have 3 to 6 months of expense money available within a few days. So, you can invest it as long as the capital is protected and the inflation does not eat it up .. and available when an emergency occur. Thank you for explaining how you account for your checking account cushion. Like you, I was not comfortable enough with my math or for the unexpected to not have a cushion in my checking account "just in case." I have a cushion in my account that I try to maintain, but I didn't know how to account for it in my budget. I am trying to grow that cushion but was not "seeing" for sure what I was maintaining in the account as a cushion.

We are currently in a emergency where it has taken all of our cash and we now must charge the last little bit ($1000) on our credit card. because we don't have it in our sinking funds. We seem to be hit with a lot of financial issues. We are retired/disabled couple who has used all but $2000 of his IRA (And retirement money won't come before May) Thanks again for this video. I keep my cushion at $1000 too. Any money over that at the end of the month I transfer into one of my SFs (right now my wedding fund). Personally I have found using my debit card keeps me more accountable than using cash so I have my short term SF "envelopes" in a separate checking account and transfer the money when I make a purchase. This also allows me to keep my general spending account lower, I just deduct $1000 from whatever number I see and that is the amount I have to spend for my pay period.

      Renee, I found I needed a few months of just doing the basics of tracking my savings, filling out my calendar, planning which expenses would be covered by each paycheck, my debt payback plan tracker, emergency fund, and filling out the Paycheck Budget Tracker page for each pay period. So many detailed steps! Now that I'm confident with these steps, I'm going to start adding in one of the savings challenges. The process of doing them will help you find the money to put into your challenges.

    Hello! I love your channel! I’ve learned so much & I’m using your BBP workbook.
    If I have a fixed expense that I include in my budget in the Bills section, for example my dogs Care Club Plan $107.99 per month, do I also count it in my budget for my Pets envelope since it is categorized as a Pet expense? I’m having trouble with tracking expenses like these. Do Bills track as their own category or come out of others like Pets, Household, etc. ?

    • @andreamaresh6958
      @andreamaresh6958 Рік тому

      As far as I understand it, you are talking about two different things. Fixed expenses such as bills are not included in cash envelopes, which track only variable expenses. So fixed expenses and variable expenses are both written down on our monthly tracking sheets and sorted into budget categories such as pets, yes, but bills/fixed expenses are not tracked on your budget envelopes. Hope that helps! ❤

      Just plan your trip now (don’t necessarily book anything) and get an idea on how much flights are, Disney tickets (check their website for prices) decide on how much spending money you want etc. then decide roughly what time of the year you want to go and then work out how many pays you have between now and then and use that to work out how much you need to sit aside per pay.

      I looove it! It’s my main, and only, bank account! No monthly fee, no minimum balance, no overdraft fee! You can have up to 25 savings accounts per checking account that give an APR so far of .4%. You can name your savings accounts so they can be where you house your sinking funds if you have large amounts that you don’t want to keep in cash for long term goals (ie Emergency Fund). On the app, it tells you any local ATMs that are fee-free. At CVS, you can deposit money into your checking account for free up to 5x a month. Branches are minimal which is how they can pass on the savings to these 360 accounts. So if you don’t have a branch locally accessible to you then you might not want to get one if that’s an issue for you.

      @@sanyalamothe3107 For some reason we can’t do it from the app, we can only do it from the browser (whether from your phone browser or computer). We can also rearrange the order they appear as well. Once the changes are made through the browser they do show on the app. I have savings accounts named “utilities” (all my bills are covered through there), “emergency fund”, “long term savings” (that I’m slowly investing), and “HRA reimbursements” (when I submit claims to my HRA, this savings account is linked to my HRA so the funds go straight to that savings account).

      Denise, if you’re still being charged a fee you should be able to go to your bank’s main page to look at account options. Some accounts may offer more benefits while requiring a minimum balance or minimum monthly deposits to avoid fees. Online only banks seem to not charge monthly fees. Some credit unions don’t charge monthly fees. You just have to shop around.
