Check out Leonid and friends Chicago tribute band ❤ on yt!! Saw them live last nite n their vocals n musicians are fantastic just like original Chicago 😂
Love the reaction, dude! "We don't pause solos", and that solo was going to go on forever (almost). Terry Kath was one of the best to ever do it (RIP, Terry). Early Chicago was sooo awesome.
Terry Kath is the lead guitarist. He was the soul of Chicago. He also has a great singing voice. His death was a tragic story. Check out The Terry Kath Experience documentary. Thank you for this one!
Peter Cetera got in a fight. Four marines didn't like a long-haired rock 'n' roller in a baseball park," he later recounted. "And of course I was a Cub fan, and I was in Dodger Stadium, and that didn't do so well. I got in a fight and got a broken jaw in three places, and I was in intensive care for a couple of days." While he recovered, he admitted it did literally impact his craft. "The only funny thing I can think about the whole incident is that, with my jaw wired together, I actually went on the road," he explained. "And I was actually singing through my clenched jaw, which, to this day, is still the way I sing."
Great band from the 70's-80's. They were a rock & roll band with horns & blended elements of classical music, jazz, R&B, & pop music. They had a lot of great songs such as "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?", "Beginnings", "Feelin' Stronger Everyday", "Questions 67 & 68", "I'm A Man", "If You Leave Me Now", "Hard To Say I'm Sorry", "Saturday In The Park", "Colour My World", "You're The Inspiration", "Will You Still Love Me?", "Look Away", "Old Days" etc.
Chicago - so based, so diverse, so blended. So much sound, so much talent. They have a huge catalog of really good songs, including Saturday in the Park, Beginnings, Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?, et al. Jimi Hendrix was quoted as saying that he thought Terry Kath played guitar better than he did. It was later on reported that Jimi Hendrix also called Terry Kath the “Best Guitarist in the Universe.”
Bro, In my humble opinion, that is one of the best live guitar solos ever recorded. There are many to choose from...but...For the time (1970) no one played like that. There are many legendary guitarists from this time frame, but not one of them played like Terry Kath at the time. Great reaction👍✌
Leonid and friends sound exactly like Chicago 🔥acheck them out! Saw them in Kansas City last nite n was blown away by their excellent covers of Chicago songs n many others😂
Next song of Chicago at Tanglewood to jam out to is Beginnings. You'll love it! This is the music I grew up with in 60s and 70s. I'm 64 now and it's the music my husband and I still listen too. Nothing compares to it. Rock on, dude!
Jimi Hendrix called Terry Kath the best guitarist he’d heard. I saw them in ‘69 and he shredded. And you just can’t beat a good brass section. Keep discovering the music of my youth, it rocked!✌️❤️🎶
Absolutely the best song! The title means 25 or 26 min till 4 in the morning. It is about him writing a song and was trying to finish it. This is one of their best lives ever!
You’re a fantastic reactor. Diggin’ your spirit, musical knowledge, empathy, realness. You listen with all your senses - the way we should feel the music. Respect.
I like they left in Danny having trouble with his drum kit and Bobby coming off keyboards to try to help. Then when roadie comes out Bobby, Terry and Peter jam a minute until roadie was done. Then Terry goes into opening chords.❤
Jimmy Hendrix was a big fan of the lead guitarist here, Terry Kath. The drummer is Danny Seraphine who is well respected as a drummer. Being from Chicago I have seen them many times dating back to the late '60s when they called themself the CTA. The Chicago Transit Authority. Enjoy!💕
There are still true musicians out there… you would enjoy all that is from the show: Live from Daryl’s House. Daryl Hall of Hall and Oats. In his mid-70’s, he opens his home studio, invites Legends and its an all-out Jam Session!
Go dig up their debut album when they were known as The Chicago Transit Authority and play these two tracks: "Introduction" and "Poem 58". Guitar player Terry Kath wrote it and sang lead vocals. He was called "The White Ray Charles" by his bandmates. Soulful baritone voice! "Poem 58" is nine minutes of PURE FUNK led by Terry Kath on guitar, Danny Seraphine on drums, and Peter Cetera on bass. Kath's guitar will have you needing an ice pack for your jaw after you pick it up from the floor! When they were The Chicago Transit Authority, they were the house band at the Whisky a Go Go in LA. One night between sets, Jimi Hendrix went to their dressing room after catching the first set. He walked up to their sax player Walt Parazaider and said, "You guys have a horn section that sounds like one set of lungs and a guitar player that's better than me! You wanna go on the road?" They said "YEAH!". And that's how they became Hendrix's opening act on a national arena tour. If you want a longer Chicago song, the closing track of their debut double LP album is the track "Liberation". It runs almost 15 minutes and is a solid jam session!
I think the studio version is important to listen to because you can really hear the instruments better, especially the bass. They're a little muddled in this live version, it might be the quality of the video, but it's still great to hear it live and the guitar solo in this live version is great, but I think the guitar solo on the studio version is amazing. One big difference between then and today is that bands back then were made up of real musicians and singers. The music was as important as the words and the musicians were absolutely incredible. Most fans knew every musician in these bands. From a talent perspective, the musicians were often as famous as the lead singer.
Chicago’s “Stronger Every Day” next! ❤ Loving your reactions; you catch it all! This music transcends time; grew up to my parents playing Chicago albums in the 70’s and now I’m 55 and still play Chicago 🔥
I agree! When I was growing up in the ‘70s, we had to pick an instrument and learn how to play it, and we had to sing in the church choir. I complained, but I can read music and play some guitar and piano, and I’m grateful now. Imagine if every kid learned one instrument. We would have a lot more music.
This IS the best version. You haven't gone far enough yet. The studio version is great, but this is amazing. The guitarist Terry Gath was Jimi Hendrix favorite guitarist. I do suppose you know who Jimi Hendrix was, right? That extra minutes are what we always called "Jammin out."
Such a shame that we lost Terry so early in such a foolish way as he was on the road to recovery with his drug addiction. He is far too often left out the the list of greats.
Magnify, hence the title "Introduction". They were introducing their sound on the first track of their first record. In a live version of this song they also introduced the band members as they were playing. That was a wonderful reaction to your first listen of Chicago. I'm 76 and grew up with this music, and it's great to see you younger folk enjoying it to. Now you can go on into their rabbit hole. Peace, Bill.
Sorry to double dip, but "These are some of the coolest white boys I've ever seen"! You're GD right there is nothing like them, they had it all, great songwriting, excellent music composition, a diverse number of instruments to execute that composition, great vocals, and outstanding musicianship. Nothing beats early Chicago (CTA).
The first segment of this video is Terry Kath filling time while the drummer and stage hand are fixing/adjusting his crash/ride cymbal. Once the drummer is satisfied, he starts with his hi-hat, and Terry breaks into the intro to the song. Pretty cool. Love live performances.
I must recommend Leonid & Friends, a Chicago tribute band out of Russia/Ukraine. They just finished a Spring U.S. tour & hope to return in the Fall. They have many covers of Chicago & other great bands & can be found here on YT. I sure hope you give them a listen.
There's an old story from when these guys were opening for Jimi Hendrix. I can't remember if it was a quote but he basically joked that Chicago had a better guitarist than his band did (himself). That's pretty high praise. I think that's the best rock guitar solo ever.
The beginning wasn’t a sound check. If you watch the video again, there is a problem with the drum kit. As it’s being fixed, Terry begins some heavy guitar rhythm that morphs into the song.
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 😂😂😂Not the best version of this song 😂😂😂 Ho❗️My friend I was so afraid that you were gonna change the video for another one 😤 and miss that solo guitar 🎸 😂😂😂 May I suggest another great song by Joe Bonamassa with Jimmy Barnes Live studio Song is 🎵Stone Cold 🎵 Beautiful guitar 🎸 too You gonna love it Keep the good work my friend ✌️ 👏 👍🏻
The sound quality of the video was so bad, it was almost painful to watch. It probably sounded amazing if you were part of that live audience during that concert but the recording wasn’t good.
I totally hear ya. Saw a live band last weekend. A bonus: my brother was the drummer, and friends from high school were lead guitar and harmonica. What a treat, man!!
Saw them 3 times. The second time we had front row seats (back when tix cost $7.50 each). It was incredible. We were so close we could see the spit blowing out of their horns- it was awesome!!! 😂
There's nothing like an EPIC live performance. Here's a few more worth checking out. Santana - Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock CSNY - Southern Man live at Filmore East The Who - Young Man Blues -at the Isle of Wright
This is the song that years ago showed a know it all preteen just crawling out from under my rock that there was more to rock than drums and guitars. Since then I have found flutes, key boards, harmonicas, whistles, super serious guitar players, full orchestras and even bagpipes in rock not to mention that it can be good music and not be rock. What a ride it’s been and it is showing no signs of stopping anytime soon.
You are correct; this is not the best version; Studio version is far better; give it a listen❤ My friend/co-worker saw then a couple of weeks ago here in NJ; she said they still got it and was a fantastic concert! Saw them about a decade ago 😊
He didn't say, "Take Care!" - but he said, "Terry Kath!" - that was the keyboard player and writer, Robert Hamm that said it. Peter Cetera, Terry Kath, and Robert Hamm all had leads in different songs. Jimi Hendrix spoke very highly of Terry Kath. Sadly, in 1978 Terry took a revolver to his head, thinking it was not loaded... bang! Very sad ending for Kath. Please give a tribute band a try that does many Chicago songs, "Leonid and Friends" - if you watch them, not only do they sound very similar to Chicago, but they give Chicago a very solid name!
Brass has always been core to Chicago's sound. That guitar solo from hell is thanks to being live in concert. Album solos tended to be shorter, but at a show? Oh Yeah, that's why you buy a ticket!. Hell, they got hits throughout the 80's too (Most notable being Hard to Say I'm Sorry). I'm fond of Stay The Night myself. The MTV Video for that one is fun.
Great appreciation of some terrific music! Chicago was great even b4 they were Chicago. They started out as The Chicago Transit Authority. Enjoy going down this rabbit hole!💕
I know a bit of the backstory behind this video. My kid brother was at Tanglewood for this concert. So they finished their final set and the roadies started tearing down the drum kit, but the audience wasn't going to have it. They screamed bloody frickin murder for an encore, so what you saw at the very beginning was the drummer and the roadies trying to put the drum set backk together so they could do this song as an encore. Just thought you might wanna know that.
You have to see Leonid d and friends 🤣they’re a Chicago cover band and they’re unbelievable! Saw them live in Kansas City and they are truly phenomenal ❤️❤️❤️check them out! They sound exactly like Chicago and other musicians they cover😁🥰🥰loved the original Chicago and Leonid and friends are mind blowing musicians and singers
Great song. The combination of instruments makes this song terrific. My piano player friend played a simple piano part at the beginning (starting at the :42 minute mark on this reaction video) with one finger, showed me how the song would sound without the complexity of all the instruments. It was like the Charlie Brown's Schroeder scene where he gets fed up with Lucy and plays Jingle Bells with one finger, not quite that.
So sad to have lot Terry Kath, One of the greatest. Jimy Hendrix was once asked how it felt to be the greatest guitarist. He replied go ask the guy from Chicago
Bro, believe me, this IS THE BEST version of this song!! 🌹
25 or 26 minutes to 4:00 AM. He’s staying up all night trying to write a song. So he’s singing a song about trying to write a song.
Staying up yes. With a little help.
they allegedly hated this song too ;)
Check out Leonid and friends Chicago tribute band ❤ on yt!!
I saw that movie! Terry's daughter looks so much like him!
RIP Terry!🙏❤️
This is the best version .. just keep listening

It's so cool to see younger people appreciate the talent these live musician's of our time had!!!! Great reaction friend
Yes Chicago was fantastic 🔥their cover band Leonid and friends are every bit as good if not better n I’ve seen both👏👏👏👏👏
Great band from the 70's-80's. They were a rock & roll band with horns & blended elements of classical music, jazz, R&B, & pop music. why did you just write all that stuff?
Hey, Dagmar!!
Chicago had it all - top-notch musicians and vocalists, excellent songwriting and almost-perfect production. Their music will stand the test of time.
It was later on reported that Jimi Hendrix also called Terry Kath the “Best Guitarist in the Universe.”
do you actually believe that this guy is reading your comments, contemplating what you said, and feeling better informed about the music? Lol
Bro, In my humble opinion, that is one of the best live guitar solos ever recorded. There are many to choose from...but...For the time (1970) no one played like that. There are many legendary guitarists from this time frame, but not one of them played like Terry Kath at the time. Great reaction👍✌
man was one of a kind...sorely missed.
Leonid and friends sound exactly like Chicago 🔥acheck them out! Saw them in Kansas City last nite n was blown away by their excellent covers of Chicago songs n many others😂
In my opinion this is maybe the greatest solo ever recorded
Absolutely none better Terry Kath, period.
Totally agree. I can't believe you are not listening and keep pausing one of the best solo guitar piece ever by Terry Kath. Just chill and enjoy it.😂
Next song of Chicago at Tanglewood to jam out to is Beginnings. You'll love it!
This is the music I grew up with in 60s and 70s. I'm 64 now and it's the music my husband and I still listen too. Nothing compares to it. Rock on, dude!
first band i ever saw live, balboa stadium san diego ca 1973...nirvano,doobie bros opened for them and i sat about 60 feet center from the stage.
Chicago were goats of their day still better than modern music
You did a fine job of describing what is missing in today's music. Exactly. You have to immerse yourself. Give us more, people.
Jimi Hendrix called Terry Kath the best guitarist he’d heard. I saw them in ‘69 and he shredded. And you just can’t beat a good brass section. Keep discovering the music of my youth, it rocked!✌️❤️🎶
Absolutely the greatest solo ever. :)
Absolutely the best song! The title means 25 or 26 min till 4 in the morning. It is about him writing a song and was trying to finish it. This is one of their best lives ever!
The late, great Terry Kath on guitar. RIP
This is what you get with talent. Pure talent.
Great reaction. Love the horns and Terry was an awesome guitar player. Such a rabbit hole to go down.
Spot on reaction.
You get it.
Terry Kath was Jimi Hendrix's favorite guitarist.
“People have got to get away from computers, and pick up instruments again”
Joe Walsh (interview - Live from Daryl’s House)
I saw Chicago live when I was in college in the 70s! So many great groups & songs back then! ❤
Robert Lamm was up all night trying to write a song, and that's what he came up with. 25 or 6 to 4, is glancing up at a wall clock.
Right; 25 or 26 minutes to 4:00 AM.
When you said you weren't sure you picked the right version of this, my first thought was, Just Wait. RIP Terry ❤
Not a sound check. There was a problem with the cymbal stand. So instead of awkward silence while they fixed it, Terry just did a fill.
Yes Brother , we need to come back to that MAGIC!!!
The talent on that stage will never be repeated!
Terry Kath .. voice of Ray Charles, guitar skills like Hendrix
When you said we don't pause solos I was like okay well strap in cuz here we go
You’re a fantastic reactor. Diggin’ your spirit, musical knowledge, empathy, realness. You listen with all your senses - the way we should feel the music. Respect.
That guitar solo is nothing but 🔥 🔥 🔥
Love the reaction Mugs.
Epic , sir .
First 7 albums while guitarist Terry Kath was still alive is second to none , bro
Great job with your review.

Absolutely brilliant to write a song about having writer's block trying to write a song at about 3:30 in the morning...
This IS the best version. You haven't gone far enough yet. The studio version is great, but this is amazing. The guitarist Terry Gath was Jimi Hendrix favorite guitarist. I do suppose you know who Jimi Hendrix was, right? That extra minutes are what we always called "Jammin out."

next should be Make Me Smile and Beginnings ... you will love those songs.
ait for Terry Kath's solo..... THATS WHY IT HAS SO MANY VIEWS....
THAT….
was Mr. Terry Kath. Jimi Hendrix’s favorite guitarist 😀
This is the best version, for the amazing guitar solo.
It's a song about writers block. I agree, it's the music that sells this one, the lyrics could be almost anything.
Magnify, hence the title "Introduction". They were introducing their sound on the first track of their first record. Super cool review my man.
Love the way you feel the music.
Btw who the heck is Joe Crocker??? 😂
Cocker" but thats what I called for quite a bit lol
Horns were awesome
It’s all about the energy they created live 😎
RIP one of the best guitarists of our time! Terry Kath!
When Jimmy Hendrix was asked who he thought was the best guitar player, and he said Terry Kath.

Can't even name or know any recent songs, but these songs of my generation have me dancing and singing every word fantastic music we grew up with.
I must recommend Leonid & Friends, a Chicago tribute band out of Russia/Ukraine. They just finished a Spring U.S. tour & hope to return in the Fall. They have many covers of Chicago & other great bands & can be found here on YT. I sure hope you give them a listen.

😂😂😂Not the best version of this song 😂😂😂
Ho❗️My friend I was so afraid that you were gonna change the video for another one 😤 and miss that solo guitar 🎸 😂😂😂
May I suggest another great song by
Joe Bonamassa with Jimmy Barnes Live studio
Song is
🎵Stone Cold 🎵
Beautiful guitar 🎸 too
You gonna love it
Keep the good work my friend ✌️ 👏 👍🏻
Lynyrd Skynyrd-- 1977 Oakland Colosseum…the Song is Freebird. Another great guitar song…3 of them plus the bass.
Terry Kath was one of the most underrated guitarist’s.
Love the energy of this live version, but the studio version has better sound quality overall...
The sound quality of the video was so bad, it was almost painful to watch. It probably sounded amazing if you were part of that live audience during that concert but the recording wasn’t good.
Its not the most polished version of it but damn its good! it gets better every time i watch it.
60’s 70’s had the best music. It was way before your time bro……we loved it just the way……
Due to an incident at a Dodgers game shortly within a few days before this performance, the man singing had the back of his jaw wired.
Terry Kath and his guitar meld together.
Lenerd and Friends plays here on YT call this the Greatest Band in History. They are very good at playing many covers.
I totally hear ya. Saw a live band last weekend. A bonus: my brother was the drummer, and friends from high school were lead guitar and harmonica. What a treat, man!!
BEST reaction to this song I've seen.🌟👍👌❤️
Even Jimmy back in the day said Terry Kath was the best
Saw them 3 times. The second time we had front row seats (back when tix cost $7.50 each). It was incredible. We were so close we could see the spit blowing out of their horns- it was awesome!!! 😂
I love watching these first reaction videos of music I grew up with. The last thing we wanted to listen to 50 years ago was 50 year old music
I loved them then and do now. Thank you.
There's nothing like an EPIC live performance. Here's a few more worth checking out.
Santana - Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock
CSNY - Southern Man live at Filmore East
The Who - Young Man Blues -at the Isle of Wright
saw them around 4 years ago- they still bring it!
Terry Kath.. blistering solo!! As good as anyone and better than most! Miss him dearly .. 😢 😢 😎🤘💯💯🔥🔥🔥
This is the best version.....
This is the song that years ago showed a know it all preteen just crawling out from under my rock that there was more to rock than drums and guitars. Your right!!! Get back to it!
You are correct; this is not the best version; Studio version is far better; give it a listen❤ My friend/co-worker saw then a couple of weeks ago here in NJ; she said they still got it and was a fantastic concert! Saw them about a decade ago 😊
Cool reaction. Welcome to old folks' music. Keep Rocking.

‘We don’t pause solos”, got that right!
Great appreciation of some terrific music! Chicago was great even b4 they were Chicago. They started out as The Chicago Transit Authority. Enjoy going down this rabbit hole!💕
Terry Kath top 5 guitarist ever!! He could play lead & rhythm guitar simultaneously and lead vocals on many of their songs!!!!!
Guys like me who grew up during this time can't really listen to much made today without cringing.
I know a bit of the backstory behind this video. My kid brother was at Tanglewood for this concert. So sad to have lot Terry Kath, One of the greatest. Jimy Hendrix was once asked how it felt to be the greatest guitarist. He replied go ask the guy from Chicago
