So true. And have a pretty basket at the foot of the stairs to put things in that belong upstairs. Every time you go up, take just one thing with you and put it away. So simple and so helpful :)

@@SusanL-ds6lcmaybe, but not when you have kids. When we once had been a family and had a house if our own, I always tried to practise that. The only one who carried things up was me😅 No matter how I tried to convince my then husband and kids ... But maybe other families do better👍

@@susannegiesen2114 Oh! I mean this habit is only for you!! Not the kids or hubby! LOL I have been married for 39 years and raised a family and I have always done this. @@SusanL-ds6lc Oh, that has been very kind of you😊 But I raised my kids, went to work and studied in the evening and so I tried to do not everything in the house on my own.... I love all of your tips. They remind me so much of my dear mother. She and my father raised 2 boys and 1girl in the 1960s/70s in a small 3 BR, 1 Bathroom house. We were taught very young how to make our beds and were expected to make them. No clothes left on the floor, our shoes were put in our closet, we played with our toys in our bedroom, not the living room. We played outside a lot. We had a wonderful childhood but were taught our chores and responsibilities. She ran a tight ship and for that I am very thankful. ❤

Exactly! Maybe it’s a generational thing, we just never ever had a messy room. We either weren’t ’allowed’ to or knew we weren’t to have a messy room. And we did our homework in our rooms at our desks by ourselves.

Joshua, I live in a 700 sq.ft. apartment. I have found that living "clutterfree" in a small space just makes sense! Owning fewer things helps to make the space feel larger and the daily habits provide a "stressfree" environment that is very easy to maintain. For me, it's the only way to live!

Agree with all except No. 8 - Make your bed... in Europe we "unmake our beds"... we pull them back, open all windows (all year around).. exchange all the house air in 5 mins (this does not cool the house down, if you have heating on)... Changing the air removes moisture, so you don't get mold issues. Unmaking your bed cools it, allows moisture to escape... this reduces the amount of bed bugs (which like, warm, dark, moist places).

Why do parents not teach their children these simple chores beginning when they are young. Age appropriate chores they are able to do. Every member of the family should have a working part of keeping the house in order and functioning. Mom or Dad should not spare the children these jobs. They teach responsibility and develop character. They will be better spouses when they marry because they have good habits for cohabitating as a helpful family member.

I have a "mail drawer" for my toddler. He likes to get into my desk so I gave him his own drawer into which I put the junk mail and the opened envelopes. He loves getting into it and tearing stuff open. And he feels like he gets to help with the mail. It gives me an immediate place to put the junk mail without having to go to another room where the trash can is (it's easier to keep the trash can away from the toddler lol).

This is fantastic! I have been doing all of these steps I swear since childhood! It's how I was raised , growing up all my brothers and sisters had daily chores in a family of 9 , it helped keep our home clean and tidy , organized and maintained! I am so glad all of these habits have stayed with me! And cleaning that kitchen in the evening is a MUST! I love walking in my kitchen in the mornings and seeing it clean and clutter free, what a soothing feeling of calmness , I love it!

I do all of these things most of the time! And it has made a difference. A key factor is designating a home for things to be put away, and that may require some initial decluttering to free up space. Doing these habits regularly has made my home much neater, and doesn't take that much time when done regularly.

@@susannegiesen2114 🙏, ja heute lernen es die Kinder ab der 4. Klasse.

@CanPDS : There are ages and stages of our lives and our children.. It will get better, as the children grow. Just do the things you can do with the energy you have. I find the three things most helpful: making my bed in the morning, dishes and counters after dinner and 5 minutes before going to bed reset in the living room. This way I get into a relaxing bed at night, a clean kitchen and living room to start the day. Just remember that even in these areas it is better, not perfection. I had five children and as I look back, those years with young children go so quickly.
