They're certainly pressing on with the work. Starting to wonder if electrification of the Huddersfield section will happen any time soon, but good to see the Chancellor making positive noises about the scheme in her recent budget.
Yes it would look the part. And would be a loss to our history as is hasn,t reached the end of its serviceable life just getting in the way of improvements.
Good to see how the works are progressing. There was a fairly brief item in the recent Budget prevention on the 30th in Parliament about further investment in trans-pennine improvements, so we’ll see what happens in due course.
I wasn't quite so convinced by the budget announcement as some. The Chancellor seemed to talk specifically about electrification between Manchester and Stalybridge and between York and Church Fenton. I may be reading too much into this, but there was no statement to the effect of 'We are 100 per cent committed to delivering electrification between Stalybridge and Leeds, via Standedge Tunnel and Huddersfield." Equally though, she didn't say anything to suggest the whole route wouldn't be electrified. As you say, time will tell.
Thanks for the positive feedback. Really appreciate it. 👍 I hope these better rail links can give Huddersfield town centre a boost and can act as a catalyst for wider regeneration. I hate to say it, but it ain't that good at the moment, and that's a big understatement.
Great video and content ,what always makes me chuckle though is it takes just as long to do a section of this upgrade as it did to build the entire line back in the 1800s and they didn't have the luxury of all the modern equipment
Always amazes me how the graffiti vandals are never seen or caught, and how they gain access to places any rail enthusiast would get arrested for entering
Great video. Thanks Sarah. Is it me? ... or might one expect such a major project to be hive of activity 🤔 ... but no .... and at 9 mins 09 secs one can see the usual clutch of "Notwork Rail" employees not working 😂!! How do they consistently get away with it? JP, Cheltenham, UK.
Dewsbury, Mirfield, Halifax and Brighouse have direct links to London thanks to Grand Central Trains, the lines are there for a train to pull into Huddersfield then pull out to Brighouse. Sadly the Barnsley line would require major work to be feasible as a route. This would help bring prosperity to the town.
I think you make a very good point. Some kind of direct London service would boost the town, as would improvements to the Penistone line, but I think the transport money tree might be running dry fairly soon.
looks like there is more office space than workers on the job,the only question is, do they really need all office containers, surely 1 or 2 ,but not that many.
Apparently, they've just started putting one or two masts up near Dewsbury Station. There was no sign of any when I was there last week though. Some of the track is difficult to get a decent viewpoint on, especially between Morley and Cottingley, so there might be some work going on out of sight.
Great video and thanks for the update. They should be starting on Elland train station soon, they've got the funding for it, just need to crack on with it.
I went twice in the last few weeks and there wasn't a massive amount going on in this phase of works. I have very much got it in mind to do a proper update on Mirfield before too long though. It's going to be quite a change.
Looking at the construction sites, it amazes me how few 'workers' there are actually constructing. Are they all relaxing in the air conditioned Portacabins? 🤔
what is bewildering to me is the complete absense of any soft landscaping in the visuals including trees, ffs we are about humanising townscapes these days the person who did this design is bereft of any humanity
I needed to know why they couldn’t dig a tunnel and do an extension for most of the mainline Trains so that they could extend the unused abandoned underground train stations. Why couldn’t they use the part D78 Stock train doors on the sides and also restructure the front face of the A60 and A62 stock which will include the class 507, class 508, class 313, class 314 and class 315 remix and make them all together and also redesign all of them into an overhead wire line trains and also make most of them into Five carriages per units and also having three Disabled Toilets on those Five cars per units A60 and A62 stock trains and also convert the A60 and A62 stock trains into a Gardner 6LXCT, Leyland 510, Gardner 6LXC, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner LG1200 and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Engines and also put the Loud 7 Speed Voith Gearboxes even Loud 10 Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Gearboxes in the A60 and A62 stock, class 507, class 508, class 313, class 314, and class 315 and also modernise the A60 and A62 stock and make it into 11 carriages per unit so it could have fewer doors, more tables, computers and mobile phone chargers? A Stock Train and 8 Disabled Toilets on those A stock trains. why couldn’t we refurbish and modernise the waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel and make it even much more Larger and extend it to the bank station, making it into a Triple-Track Railway Line so those Five countries such as Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden to convert the waterloo and city line Triple-Track Railway tunnel into a High-Speed Railway lines? The Third Euro tunnel Triple-Track Railway line to make it 11 times better for passengers so they could go from A to B. Then put the modernised 11 carriages per unit A Stock and put them on a bigger modernised Waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel so it could go to bank station to those Five countries such as Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. The modernised refurbished 11 carriages per unit A stock could be a High Speed The Third Triple-Track Euro Tunnel Train So it is promising and 47 times a lot more possible to do this kind of project if that will be OK for London Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. oh by the way, could they also tunnel the Triple-Track Railway Line so it will stop from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex so that the Passengers will go to Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden and also extend the Triple-Track Railway Line from the Bank to Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex Stations so that more people from there could go to Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden more Easily. Why couldn't they extend the Piccadilly Line and also build brand-new underground train stations so it could go even further right up to Clapton, Wood Street can they also make another brand new underground train station in Chingford and could they extend the Piccadilly Line and the DLR right up to Chingford? All of the classes 150, 155, 154, 117, 114, 105, and 106, will be replaced by all of the Gardner 6LXCT, Leyland 510, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXC, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner LG1200 and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Five carriages three disabled toilets are air conditioning trains including Highams Park for extended roots which is the Piccadilly line and the DLR trains. Could you also convert all of the 1973 stock trains into an air-conditioned maximum speed 78 km/hours (48 MPH) re-refurbished and make it into a 8 cars per unit if that will be alright, and also extend all of the Piccadilly train stations to make more space for all of the extended 8 car per unit 1973 stock air condition trains and can you also build another Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive Companies and can they order Every 87 Octagon and Every 48 Hexagon shape LNER diagram unique small no.14 and unique small no.11 Boilers from those Countries such as Greece, Italy, Poland, and Sweden, can they make Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive speeds by up to 147MPH so you can try and test it on the Original Mainline so it will be much more safer for the Passengers to enjoy the 147MPH speed Limit only for HS2 and Channel Tunnel mainline services, if they needed 16 Carriages Per units, can they use those class 55’s, class 44’s, class 40’s and class 43HST Diesel Locomotive’s right at the Back of those 18 Carriages Per Units so they can take over at the Back to let those Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s have a rest for those interesting Journeys Please!!!!!!!!!!!!, oh can you make all of those 18 Tonne Boxes of Coal for all of those 147MPH Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s so the Companies will Understand us PASSENGER’S!!!! So please make sure that the Builders can do as they are told!!!!!! And PLEASE do something about these very very important Professional ideas Please? Prime Minister of England, Prime Minister of Australia, Prime Minister of Sweden, Prime Minister of Germany, Prime Minister of Italy, Prime Minister of Poland and that Includes the Mayor of London.
I think a lot of these suggestions were explored in the consultation phase but deemed too costly in the end. I guess we should be grateful for what we've got and welcome some investment in the north for once.
I wouldn't trust on the Chinese to do the infrastructure, seeing they can't do the same to theirs, yes they do it quick but they cut corners and use materials that don't last long
A bit like your spelling. I am always amazed how long things take but nobody anywhere in the world matches the speed the union less Chinese and,I am sure their pittance in terms of pay.
Thanks for putting this video together. Great to see the progress while the line has been closed.
Brilliant. I've been looking forward to your next update. So much has changed as you say 👍
They're certainly pressing on with the work. Starting to wonder if electrification of the Huddersfield section will happen any time soon, but good to see the Chancellor making positive noises about the scheme in her recent budget.
Many thanks for your positive feedback. It's such an interesting project and it felt like the right time to do an update. Glad you enjoyed the video 👍
Brilliant to see these works on going I have not seen work of this scale since M62 was built through our area.
Thanks!
Many thanks 👍
great summary. I hope it makes a massive improvement when complete
Excellent video very informative, thanks for taking time to make it👍
Thanks Sarah 😎
I hope that old footbridge can be dismantled and given to a heritage railway.
That would be fantastic, wouldn't it. Sadly, I've not heard of any plans to relocate it, but you never know.
Yes it would look the part. And would be a loss to our history as is hasn,t reached the end of its serviceable life just getting in the way of improvements.
Nice one. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent update!
Excellent video Sarah.
Many thanks 👍
Great video sarah
Thanks
Thankyou - much appreciated

Thankyou for this update. Very clear and infornative. Makes me want to move back to Huddersfield. ❤.
Thanks for the positive feedback. Really appreciate it. 👍 I hope these better rail links can give Huddersfield town centre a boost and can act as a catalyst for wider regeneration. I hate to say it, but it ain't that good at the moment, and that's a big understatement.
Great to see earth hauled away by rail keeping clear of road haulage for once.
Great video and content ,what always makes me chuckle though is it takes just as long to do a section of this upgrade as it did to build the entire line back in the 1800s and they didn't have the luxury of all the modern equipment
True but lives will have been lost.
They also didn’t have to work on an active railway back then!
If bus replacements are provided, passengers should be charged no more than one fifth of the value of the train ticket. That'd learn 'em!
Always amazes me how the graffiti vandals are never seen or caught, and how they gain access to places any rail enthusiast would get arrested for entering

There's certainly a lot of office space at Huddersfield and Heaton Lodge now all those cabins have been brought in
I expected to see signs of mast posts being errected in some areas ?
Apparently, they've just started putting one or two masts up near Dewsbury Station. There was no sign of any when I was there last week though. Some of the track is difficult to get a decent viewpoint on, especially between Morley and Cottingley, so there might be some work going on out of sight.

I'll keep an eye out for the Elland work starting and do a video once it's underway 👍
Where is the update on Mirfield train station??
I went twice in the last few weeks and there wasn't a massive amount going on in this phase of works. I have very much got it in mind to do a proper update on Mirfield before too long though. It's going to be quite a change.
...is this also costing £1000000 per meter like HS2?
The last cost estimate I saw was £11 billion. Like most construction projects, that has risen massively from the original projections.
Looking at the construction sites, it amazes me how few 'workers' there are actually constructing. Are they all relaxing in the air conditioned Portacabins? 🤔
What a shame that with modern technology, they have to replace a beautiful bridge with an ugly one!
what is bewildering to me is the complete absense of any soft landscaping in the visuals including trees, ffs we are about humanising townscapes these days the person who did this design is bereft of any humanity
This is why projects are so expensive

Stop spamming this in video comments. It’s not funny, not feasible, and annoying.
What an awful waste of money for no gain, the only gain is to the pockets of those holding the contracts, money laundering on an epic scale.
Contructers
Rubbish that the buffet cage has gone from Huddersfield. No where cheap for train crews now.... rip off Britain!
The chineese would have done this in a week what a discrace our country is
