    6:25 "Just listen...the sustain"
    "I'm not hearing it?...."
    "You would though, if it were playing...its famous for its sustain. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"

    My word, that guitar almost nails the Peter Green sound. Incredible for the money. It's such a refreshing change to see a great player like yourself Dave showing what can be done on less expensive guitars.

    You could go out for a pint, meet a lass, have a one night stand, get a maccy D's breakfast then perform the walk of shame and that thing would still be sustaining.

    Great video Dave, I was smiling all the way through it just sensing how much you were enjoying it yourself. I had a black Vintage until about a year ago, i do miss it. Keep them coming, I love your enthusiasm.

    That's a lovely looking & sounding guitar.
    Proof that in this day and age, you only "need" to buy Gibson if the name on the headstock means that much to you, there's so many reasonably-priced alternatives out there. I own an Edwards (ESP) White LP Custom-style guitar that cost me about £600 at the time, and it is a beauty.

      I got this guitar new for £275 so you dont need to even pay £500! Just makes you realised how over priced the "real thing" is.

    My wife bought me one of these from my local music shop for Christmas, unreal! Absolutely made up. Love it so much it sounds awesome, can’t put it down and can’t stop looking at it, it sounds mad but playing it makes so happy I could cry. Unbelievable guitar. Love your videos, the most passionate and honest on UA-cam by a country mile. Outstanding playing by the way. Keep it up. Oh and very happy new year

    I've had a Lemon Drop for several years, but the one with the relicing. But it doesn't have that on the truss rod cover. It's a great guitar, mind and I love it. They really are great guitars, especially for the money.

    • @matzer8846
      @matzer8846 9 років тому +1

      +Pádraig Floyd ... guess i would skip the " especially for the money"-phrase ...
      All Wilkinson-Vintage guitars (and a couple of basses) i ever played where good to stunningly good ...
      Some of 'em are really unique: like the Midge Ure or the Jerry Donahue or the Thomas Blug ...

    •  9 років тому

      +Matze R No, had a couple through my hands that were not as great. One was an SG that was better than most, but felt a bit like a cheap copy. Also, the new V (VV60 as opposed to VT60) is not as well put together as the old one and the finish is a bit thick, like a glassy sugar coating.

    The Harley Benton SC 450 Plus (LD) is practical the same guitar but with the right knobs and cost 1/3 of the price of the Vintage... or you can buy 3 of them instead of one Vintage!!! Check one out you will be amazed. Notice the binding from the neck to the body it is exactly the same as from the Vintage, can't be coincidence! Other than this I like to say that I like your demos very much, Dave. It is pleasure watching them. I also plan to buy me the same Orange as you have. I was looking for a solid state amp but did not know which one. Most effectpedals sound also better with a solid state amp. Greetings & salutations from the Netherlands, Hans.

    Wow. I got my dream less Paul awhile back 2017 standard blueberry burst. Has lots of purple and blue. The les Paul roar, but I like to play ambient music with it as well. With that being said after hearing you play this Les Paul, it sounds and sustains just as nice. Growing up playing Jimi and frusciante styles, I was always a strat person, but EVERYONE SHOULD TRY A PAUL STYLE GUITAR. By the way the flame and back of that guitar is beautiful and vintage looking. Was thinking of changing my silver tuners to those faded ones as well

    Beautiful guitar I have one myself, but I'm amazed at the difference. I have the road worn or relic Version which absolutely love. Now apart from it being rolled worn this guitar is totally different in so many ways to mine. For a start yours has green tuning pegs which Peter Green changed for Grovers which are on my Lemon Drop & The body colour is totally different, yours looks like a Gary Moore number one Lespaul with a hint of orange. Where my Lemon Drop and any other Lemon Drop I have ever seen road worn or not, are lemon in colour with a much nicer flame & brighter colour than yours, strange??

    Hi there Dave,
    Just bought this guitar myself.
    According to Trevor W, the neck pup is rewired for the out of phase middle position tone, and NOT magnetically reversed.
    There is some conjecture as to whether the two ways of doing it, give the same results.
    In your honest opinion, does a rewire accomplish the same result as a magnet flip?

    • @thedavesimpson
      @thedavesimpson  7 років тому +4

      In my opinion the re wire is no different to the magnet flip. They both give a great approximation of Peter's out of phase tone. But. Peters Les Paul was wired out of phase not magnet flipped so its closer historically. :)

    Wow! The first unboxing demo of a (budget-ish) Les Paul copy in a long time, that's not one of those Harley Benton things. Should I be congratulating you for not jumping on the bandwagon? So far I've kept myself disciplined enough to stop myself getting one out of pure curiosity. Most of my students can not afford higher end guitars, so I do a lot of research on good quality budget stuff to help them out. Channels like yours are inspiring for research for affordable alternatives. Keep up the good work Dave!

    Nice guitar! I love LP style guitars!. Just one question: how did you get that 13 seconds note sustain @6:26 ? That was crazy! Amp feedback? a hidden-from-view sustainer? or was it bare hand and guitar? I played it several times ´cause I couldn´t believe it.

    Dave, I know this video is old, but how does it play, mate? It sounds great, but does it feel like a Gibson? Epiphone? Any high frets? I have no vintage dealers around me, so I can get my hands on one, but I am certainly intrigued in them. I play mostly Gibson’s and Epiphones, but I’m always up for alternatives. Thank you for your vids sir!

    What a great demo, I just missed 1 on Ebay that went for 131 quid, but not to worried as i have the V100 lp wine red which i paid 35 for, & a vrs for 85, & a vh51 for 65 plus a v800n acoustic for 40 quid. They all sound great, but would sound better in your hand's. I just came across your channel , and will certainly be back. (subbed)

    No way! I was looking into budget lemon drop LP online last week and only didn't pull it because i really don't need another guitar(do i?). As a father of a 19 and 17 i have to show responsability... You make my live so hard today! Oh Well! Peter Green never had his moments of doubt? I ll buy one for the kids then...

    Hey man FANTASTIC demo! Question do you still own this guitar? If so, what are your follow up thoughts on performance and construction after all these years? Thanks!

      I do still own this guitar and still love it. The only problem ive had with it was the pots dying.
      Other than that its solid as a rock. :)

    Hi Dave, nice guitar! I have a Vintage Afd Paradise and I'm not able to find your tone. What set of equipment were you using on this video? thanks in advance.

    Yes. Great video & review. And what about that sustain? Haha brilliant. Question - I'm thinking about the V100 Paradise. But the Harley Benton equivalent SC 550 Paradise is nice too. Any experience with either ?
