That Gallagher footage is from the first night RTÉ broadcast in colour (gig was the Savoy in Limerick). It was also the drummer Rod De'Ath's first gig with Rory and he was totally busking it as he was filling in at the last minute for Wilgar Campbell.
@jamesbradshaw3389 I agree to a certain point go outside and ask young people who's Rory most won't know but they'd know hendrix or page but not Rory that's what I mean he's held in high regard by people who seen him and the musicians of the time but somehow he was forgotten by the mainstream
Can you give me a link or post evidence of Jimi ever saying that I can't find anything that makes that comment true I've looked for years to find proof and I've found nothing can you provide me evidence Jimi said that?
@@donjohn2695 Apparently after his performance at the Isle of Wight Festival (his last ever, and one he wasn't happy with), a journalist asked him how it felt to be the world's best guitarist. Jimi replied 'I don't know, why don't you ask Rory Gallagher'. Taste had turned in a blistering set which had gone down very well. I can't give you links or chapter and verse, but that's the story. I'm sure you can find more info if you try hard enough.
Yes to all listed here...but what about Anto Drennan? The late Jimmy Faulkner? Dave Keary ?..and a few others I could mention...all great guitar talents.....
Nigel Mooney, Greg Boland, Pat Farrell, Pat Coldrick. If I thought about it for an hour I could probably come up with a hundred plus more names that could be on the list and deservedly so.
How about Rory Galagher Eric Bell, John Fogerty CCR, Gary Moore, Jimi Hendricks, Kurt Cobain, Scott Gorham, Johnny Fean, Bruce Springsteen, all Irish and all of great Irish stock and yes even Jimi. I almost put Bob Dylan in because of his Clancey Broths & Tommy Maken connections.
Playing in an Irish band does not make one Irish, Scott Gorham will always be Canadian, likewise Springsteen, Fogerty, Cobain and Hendrix (with an X!) may have some Irish blood but this does not make them Irish. It's bad enough when the Brits try to claim Irish people as British, Katie Taylor for example, without us doing the same.
I mean no disrespect to any of the others (except maybe the edge but he's just collateral damage beside Bono with that!!) But this title can only belong to Rory!!
Video title is a bit misleading. Should be the best of pre 1990s Ireland based guitarists, Seems to only go up to the end of the 80s and no mention of any of beyond that, pity.
.the title is a bit dumb, obviously theres no criteria by which you can be judged to be the best "irish" guitarist ever .....it would depend on a judgement of practical ability ...but mostly it depends on the the musical taste of the listener .. Rory Gallagher could make the guitar talk only in a way that he could "speak" .. but he probably couldnt have played complicated piece of complicated spanish classical music ... likewise John Feeley may not have been able to play like Rory Gallagher ..and certainly could not sound like him ..... A better title for video may have been "great guitar players from Ireland" ...because Steve Cooney isnt irish ...but he's a great Guitarist ..that Jazz boy is good Stewart.... 1:09
Rory Gallagher for definite

Great to see Arty McGlynn acknowledged (RIP 2023); Rory is the master.
So underrated was Rory
Rory was never underrated, Rory Gallagher was and still held in the very highest regard, Rory was the very best by a long way

Gary Moore
Honorable mention of Vincent Mc Cusker from the band Fruupp . His solo on decision is legendary.
Good to see Johnny fean there!
Paul Brady, Roaring Rory, and Theon Edgerton. Love it.
Jimi Hendrix was asked in an interview if he was the best guitarist in the world, he replied that it was Rory Gallagher 👍👍
Some say that is true, Did you know that Jimi was also part Irish and native American Indian, this is totally true
Is that actually true

Declan Sinnott is an incredible guitar player. Listen to his accompanying christy moore on live in the point. Brilliant guitar playing.

Yes, I would totally agree (especially Anto) and add, Greg Boland, Des Moore, Philip Donnelly, Tommy Halferty and Gerry Leonard.
Brilliant video. Thanks
Never realised just how great these guys are
Nigel Mooney, Greg Boland, Pat Farrell, Pat Coldrick. If I thought about it for an hour I could probably come up with a hundred plus more names that could be on the list and deservedly so.
Jimmy Faulkner, Jimi Slevin, Danny Tobin, Jerry Hendrix, Anto Drennan and so many more, more impressive than some shown in this video.
