Ugh I totally admit it. I just wrote down everything in my pantry, and i can do an entire week of meals with what I already have on hand!! You just saved me $150 this week!
SINGLE PERSON TIPS!!- ONE: I cook casseroles, etc in the regular size, portion out 2/3 of it into Tupperware and freeze for future lunches or quick dinners. TWO: Buy meat on sale, slice it and season it. Freeze in a single layer on cookie sheets. Once it is frozen, bag it up and label it. Keep frozen stir fry veggies on hand. Throw in a handful of seasoned meat and two handfuls of veg (or whatever ratio you want) and you have a fresh dinner in less than 10 minutes.
Awesome ideas! Also, could precook neutrally seasoned ground meat (chicken, turkey, beef, whatever) and freeze, put in a ziplock bag, scoop out a few ounces at a time to use in a meal for one (hello nachos!) or add to cheap frozen dinner or soup to make it more filling/nutritious.
I do this too! I spend about 2 hours every other weekend to slice up a ton of meat and freeze it into ziplock baggies and it only takes about 30 minutes to thaw because I freeze it flat. It’s super easy to make a quick stir-fry with frozen veggies.
I have to say I’ve been watching you for a couple of weeks now and I started meal planning and budgeting 3 weeks ago. Before this my weekly grocery bill could go as high as $40-60 and then I complained because I didn’t have any money left. After I started budgeting and following your tips, I started going under my $30 weekly budget, well this week I managed to only spend $15, that’s $15 dollars folks. Thank you for opening my eyes and for sharing all this information with the world.
Thank you! In my case, we buy the replaceable about once a month (sometimes every 1 and a half) and I just put it on my budget separately. I have to say that when I buy meat that number goes up a little (I'm a vegetarian and I only buy chicken for my dog). But that week, I ended up going back to the Aldi just to get some stuff cause I had a improntu family gathering, the good thing is that I didn't have to pull from other budgets, I already had it there which was amazing.
Wow,that’s amazing. Also instead of disposable sponges use dish cloths & I also have made my own dish soap,I’ve seen to add in a bit of dawn if you like the bubbles.
My bestie and i do double batches and swap. We trade a lasagne for a enchilada bake or burger patties for sausage rolls or pikelets for quiches etc. Bulk buying savings for twice the variety 😉😁😎
@@stacyhigginson170 lol i know your pain! My besties sons are both autistic and tend to lose it when "normals" turn into "remixes" for them. It is fun to have a surprise though 😉
I meal plan by making 30 freezer meals in a day! I love the time saving aspect of it - it's so nice to work hard for one day, and the rest of the month take that time off. Less dishes, and less stress on busy nights after kids sports. I'm a huge fan of freezer meals!
I love the idea of only shopping once a week, no matter what! I always find myself doing a mid-week shop for milk and bread and end up spending over $50 on unnecessary stuff! Thanks Jordan
That's what I utilize Walmart pickup for actually. If in the middle of the week I need diapers (no skipping that!), I'll make a small pickup order and get the necessities or the things I forgot during the weekly trip. That way, I'm not tempted by things on the shelves! The nice kiddos at the pickup department bring me groceries and I never get out of my car! It's a lifesaver....AND a 💰💰💰 saver!
Me too. Our small side-by-side fridge simply won't hold 3 gallons of milk plus all our produce for the week. I usually do one big and one small grocery run per week.
I was totally doing this backwards. I tried this for my meal plan today and was shocked!!!! I filled a whole notebook paper with useable ingredients!!!! What?!?! Jordan you rock!
Susan Savage This happened to me and it led to a big re-organization of my kitchen, I was surprised by how much space I was able to create! Personally I used the KonMari declutter method. Also, using the oven as a storage space for pots and pans freed up an entire cabinet! Of course, you definitely have to remember to take the stuff out before preheating, haha. Hope any of that helps you find some space, that can be a tough challenge for sure!
@@susansavage9717 I use some shelves in my garage as my "stock pile." My best friend uses an extra closet with shelves for hers. It doesn't have to be big at all. Hope that helps.
Now that my kids are a bit older it seems our after school activities get later and later. So my first meal plan tip is CHECK YOUR SCHEDULE. No point trying to cook on a Wednesday when we’re not home til after 7pm. However I’m home in the morning so Wednesday is a slow cooker/make ahead day, and I have a list of meals I know I can make that fits that scenario. The other meal plan tip I have used to great success in the past is MAKE A LIST OF MEALS INTO CATEGORIES FOR EACH DAY OF THE WEEK. Eg Mexican Monday I have a list of 6-7 options I know the whole family will eat, and I rotate between them. Tuesday is Super Quick Tuesday so it’s things like grilled steak/chicken/fish with steamed veggies or a throw together garden salad - things that take no time and almost no prep. Thursday might be Try Something New day, and then Friday is always leftovers/takeout (budget allowing).
Can I be adopted into your family? I would love to know what I'm eating for dinner each night before say 5 or 6 pm. My family also doesn't believe in dinner time is family time anymore and I hate eating dinner alone. Plus when I eat alone I usually had a stressful day or am not happy about eating alone and make unhealthy choices.
Exactly! Mondays are my work from home day and so it is Macaroni for lunch that my oldest can cook by himself and usually a slow cooker meal for supper. Don't try and plan a homemade pizza night on game night.
This past spring, i taught a meal planning class at my church. Very few people use meal planning on a budget. They just went to the store and bought whatever they wanted and had to return to the store because they forgot sides, leading them to spend more. I gave them tools, printables, and even menu ideas based on sale items. Even when we had a family of 10, I had very frugal monthly food budget of $500. Now with only 4 people, I shop my freezer & pantry before I ever go to the store, saving me time & money. Saturday afternoons I create my menu & even have assigned people to assist too on certain days. Now everyone knows what's for dinner, who helps. #hatefoodwaste
I like that you taught this at church! It's something Godly women need and im so sure would enjoy because they are more aligned to the life God blessed women with the make a home!
Mary come to my church I need help n I’m 60. Raising my picky granddaughter n having guests over more than once a week n a son who comes n goes n hubby it’s so hard to meal plan in the craziness. Hugs
I use to plan the meals first and then shop, but then I noticed my pantry was becoming filled with items I ended up not using - either I bought more because they were on sale or I changed my mind about a dish. After seeing a pantry challenge, I’m working on tailoring meals around what I have with only small purchases of seasonings or produce. Three weeks in and I still have plenty of food but am seeing a noticeable difference in how much space I’m clearing up. Love it! Plus I saved a ton of grocery money...at least this month. I plan on continuing this trend and only doing one major restock every two to three months.
Sandy Prater Ditto! Every month or two I have an “eat what’s here” block where I don’t let myself buy anything but produce. I’ve had some interesting combinations, but it saves a ton of money and nothing ever has a chance to expire! 😀
@@leapintothewild I do weekly meal planning. The night before I go grocery shopping and meal plan all over again, I have a left overs night. This way my family is happy that they get a choice as to what to eat and I get the fridge cleared out and no food gets wasted. Plus then the fridge is emptied out so I can see what I have on hand and what I need and I'm able to take inventory.
We eat way too much produce to not grocery shop weekly. Plus milk is needed, fridge to small to have more than one gallon at a time in it. Im limited on freezer space too so only a loaf of bread at a time in there too. You CAN shop more than weekly even and simply stick to a LIST. Its doable!
When I was raising my kids, I found that we had about 15-20 go to recipes that everybody would eat. I broke them down by protein and dedicated one week to a protein. For example, one week chicken, the next burger, the next ham etc. we had little money and had a lot of casseroles (one pot dinners). With this kind of rotation, I could purchase large family size packages that would last the whole week. We still had variety that everybody liked and saved money too. PS: I was a single mom of 8 kids. Love your channel!
You can make your own “whiteboard” by laminating a plain white sheet of paper. I have two of them stuck inside my kitchen cabinet & I write my meal plan for the week in there. 😄
I started doing this way of meal planning and it cut my weekly food budget from $50 to $15-$20. This video was such a life saver. Now I absolutely LOVE meal planning. This is also something I didn't learn to do until I was 26 (little over a year ago) in fact everything you talk about in your videos I never learned until mid 20's. Thank you so much for your content. Eventually I'll be getting your budgeting planner. I live on planners, low key obsessed with them lol.
I do the online grocery shopping for a good while. Changed my life! No impulse buys. Plus saves my energy. I gave RA and Adrenal Insufficiency so my energy is a limited resource. Lol. Leftovers are bomb.
One week out of the month, I purchase an already roasted chicken. Usually, I go at the end of the day, so I get it for 3.99 ... I make stuffing (my own) and gravy and have first meal. Then the second day, I make chicken salad sandwiches or stuff tomato or cucumber. Third meal will be soup... I take the carcass and put it in a pot, cover it with water, add celery, onion, carrot... and maybe a bullion cube ... when carrots are done, I remove carcass and remove the meat and put it back in pot... cook some noodles... and serve. Third meal.
The cooked chickens are cheaper because they were the frozen chicken that was closer to their sale by date or expiring. Instead of throwing it away, they cook it to extend the shelf life by a few days to make at least some money off of it
They also do the roasted chickens as a "loss leader"--they know people will come in after work to pick one up for a quick dinner, and they'll probably buy other things while they're there. If you can figure out what each store is using as a loss leader you can get some really good deals. For instance, a lot of convenience stores use milk this way.
Let the carcass simmer in seasoning, S&P,, onion, and herbs for a few hours; the longer the more flavorful. Divide the diced/chopped celery, carrots, and potatoes 15-30 minutes at intervals of 5, continue to let simmer. This will keep the veggies from becoming soggy, and add textures.
I watched the video right before I was gonna go do weekly shopping with my meal plan already. Well, I revised and tweaked it, so my bill was half a regular one 😆👍🏻!Awesome tip! Thank you
I had never meal planned before, I hated sitting down and thinking about what I was going to have to eat during the week. But now I have it all planned out! And it makes my life so much easier!!!
A Beautiful Horizon do you just freeze them in baggies??? And they taste ok when you thaw them out? I know I have tried with green grapes and it never worked out. Pls share any tips.
I usually use a baggie like a zip block bag, and they're just as good, to me its like a mini popsicle because of the texture. I found red grapes work out best.
Yes! I've got a bunch of green grapes in my freezer right now 😁 I'll pick them off the stem (I don't know if that's necessary, it's just what I've always done), stick them in a box, and whenever I want grapes I can just grab a handful! I let them thaw most of the way before eating them and it works out wonderfully 😍
I helped my mom raise my now grown twin brothers. I recently started following your videos and I love them. You are so informative, entertaining and funny. I really get a lot from watching you and reading your posts. You seriously rock!
I mastered shopping at 3 (rarely 4) stores. But they are literally across the street from each other. One for produce and their deals (49 cent grapes) and then my main store super deals at one store for snacks and monthly costco trip. Sounds tiresome but I go at night when the kids are in bed I take my headphones in and take my 1.5 hours. Then treat myself with chicfalet lol
I do the same! They are all in a loop so no wasting gas. I cannot get everything at one store because they either don't carry something or something is way cheaper at another store.
I do this too. I have an Aldi and a regular grocery store next to each other, so I do aldi first, and then any small bits which i can't get there, I go into the other grocery story. It's definitely a lot cheaper than doing it all at the regular store (even with the sales) but Aldi doesn't always have everything I consider basics especially as a vegetarian.
We have Price Matching here in Canada, I get everything at one store but pay the lowest price from all the flyers! Next best thing if stores aren't close to each other
Love, love, love your content. I live in Australia, so not everything works for us here but you always keep my mind ticking over how I could make things more productive and financially viable. So glad I found you ❤
can you explain or do a video on freezing meals? It is a little intimidating for me, and I'd love to learn more! Thanks for sharing your awesome tips and ideas!! :D
I LOVE freezing meals!!! I hate cooking. So when I do cook I make a lot all at once. Then I portion it out by how much my family will eat in each meal. So, like if I make sweet pork for burritos I know that my family will eat about 3 cups of it for dinner. So each bag that I'm going to freeze of it gets roughly 3 cups in each bag. Then I freeze them flat (saves TONS of room to freeze flat and it thaws faster and more evenly that way). I love "shopping" my freezer for dinner!!!
The more I watch and learn from your videos, the more I truly wish you tube was around when my kids were little (now grown with families). This meal plan method makes much more sense than the other way around. Just today, I made my inventory list of what I have and have meal planned lunches and dinners for the rest of the week without needing the grocery store. ❤️
I just started something new on meal planning. I was doing meal planning on Sunday, and drawing a blank. Even looking through the refrigerator and pantry didn’t help. We ended up eating eggs a lot We figured out a week of menu. If we liked the meal, we put it on the calendar as a suggestion for another day. It could be for next week, next month, whatever. I use a regular calendar for that, and transfer the week to our whiteboard, which is hung in the kitchen. That way, my husband knows what is coming up for dinner. He makes the salad. I would like to suggest doing menu planning with a side dish I have sour cream that isn’t going to last very longer. I bought an English cucumber and red onion and will make Tatstiki as our side dish for the next two nights. Thanks so much for your tips. I need to look more in our freezer, which is gotten over filled with stuff from Costco. Now that we are doing our own shopping, we can whittle that down and see what’s in there. A new subscriber, I got it from the frugal living website
I love the website Super Cook out pulls recipes from places like all recipes and you can type in everything you have and it will pull up all the recipes you can make using what you already have. You can also focus on certain meal types and certain ingredients. Following your tips and using this website have changed my life!!
I literally stopped the video and went and took an inventory of my fridge, freezer and pantry...lol. Showed my husband and we already have about four meals ready to go. Amazing ideas. My husband and I recently lost everything to a house fire and just bought a house a couple of months ago. So, as we start over, it is good to think about what you really do or do not need. The sellers had a few staple groceries they left in the pantry, after they asked us..lol, they knew our story, so that helped a little. We normally spend about $100.00 - $130.00 a week on groceries but not anymore. :-) We have been watching Jordan and now know how to shop intelligently. Thank you.
Oh so sorry to hear about the fire and all of your loss. We're so happy to hear that you're budgeting your groceries now and are utilizing what's on hand! That's awesome!
This is EXACTLY how I meal plan!!! Yay! I've been doing it right. I follow your formula for knowing how MUCH to budget for our groceries and we stick to it pretty easily. I do set aside $75 extra (every month) for what I call "surprise restock". So when I'm picking up my weekly groceries, and I see they have massive trays of bone-in chicken thighs marked down to $0.75/lb because they are about to go past the sell by date, I'll dip into that "bonus" envelope and clear the cooler or shelf. Then when I get home I immediately divide the trays of chicken up into smaller serving sizes. I'll bundle 4-6 thighs together, use our Food Saver (BEST PURCHASE EVER. btw from a garage sale) and I'll freeze the smaller packets and restock our freezers! That way I ALWAYS have a variety of meat in my freezer and RARELY have to buy fresh meat. That REALLY helps keep out budget down overall. And if I don't see any massive deals like that, I'll just roll that money over to the next month.
I have used Allrecipes for at least 10 years. It's great because other people will give tips in what they've done to tweak the recipe ( use less sugar, more salt, etc). I print out the recipe and keep the winners - the ones my family likes.
Ive just started watching you but I love your channel. You have a fun, practical take that is hard to call personal finance. You turn finance into lifestyle from your video concepts to lighting and brand image. And I just love what your channel is about. Will keep watching you in spare time
Oh my ... where have you been all my life. I swear I'm the most disorganised Momma out there and I'm beyond grateful that you shared these tips with us. Us as a family spend sooo much on shopping daily for meals and I just know this will really help us change those bad habits. Your amazing . Thank you xx
Omg I freaking love this chic!!!! I just started budgeting and meal planning a few months ago to help save money for a future house project and now its become a second hobby. I love researching new ways to save. Definitely sending some of my viewers this way to get some knowledge. 😉
This video changed my life! We are working to pay off medical debt and your videos have put us on the right track. We have started using your tips and tricks and have already saved so much cash! It’s changing our life and I’ve told all of my friends about you! Thank you! ❤️
I had such an amazing win this week after putting this into practice I have to share with someone or anyone who will listen! We are a family of 3 and our groceries are getting up to $250/wk! 😬 I LOVE to cook healthy meals, and we do buy grass-fed meats and organic veg and a lot of higher-end brands. We've been justifying it so far because we are a "foodie" family, but lately, it's getting out of control! I don't want to spend more money on this! I watched a lot of videos and even coming here I had the excuses: "we live in a tiny home so we can't stockpile dry goods, I don't want to compromise on the quality of our food, etc." but I went through the motions anyway because I'm willing to try whatever works at this point. I already have an amazing meal planning tool and database I use, so I didn't change any of the recipes I cook, nor did I change the quality of the ingredients I use. I just inventoried my pantry, looked at what's on sale and built my meal plan around that (oh, and only went to one store) aaaaaannnd: I only spent $136 on groceries for the whole week!!! 🙌🏼😃 I only sacrificed the typical "impulse purchases" that weren't on my list, but we're definitely not going hungry at home this week. The grocery receipt said I saved $40, but I know it was way more than that based on my previous weeks' trips (to multiple stores). This system is AMAZING! It's totally going to change the way I shop and plan for groceries, thank you so much!!
This is so helpful! I’m a 19 year old college student but I still live at home and me and my mom take turns cooking throughout the week so we do the grocery shopping together and I find we spend so much money a month on groceries, I’m v excited to try this!
Both of my kids flew the nest this past year and so I was used to cooking for the four of us (and sometimes extra friends too!) and struggled for a bit with what to do. BUT I discovered a hidden blessing. I bought plastic containers that are stackable and hold a meals worth of food in them all together and then hubby and I eat one serving each for that night and I freeze two servings for another night. It has saved us so much time when we are super busy. Also, my parents come to eat frequently so there is always enough to go around. I love your tips especially on ONE TRIP ONE STORE ONCE A WEEK! Oh my gosh I hate grocery shopping so much so this is like permission to not go crazy. Thank you!
I totally agree with the order you plan in! Also, I did a whole video on grocery shopping with my kids -- I let my kids "make the list" by circling the on-sale items in the circulars. It helps them have some quiet activity time, but also stimulates some really thoughtful conversations about what the family should be eating. Thanks for sharing!
I meal plan for the month. I have four boys who eat a lot and ask "what's for dinner?" as soon as they wake up. Thanks to you, I shop my freezer and pantry first, figure out how much time I have to cook each day due to sports (usually cook while kids are at school) and work off of my 35 "go to" meals, throwing in one new recipe a week. Takes me about an hour to figure it all out, but only have to do it once a month. I shop for produce and veggies once a week. So much less stressful and I save a lot of money :)
Kim Molloy I do the Same thing but I also make a meal plan so Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday I have a certain meal each day of the week so Mondays are chicken Tuesdays taco tuesday;) wednesday pork Thursday pasta Friday is beef. That way I know we aren't getting burned out of one meat. And it makes making meals faster.
My secret, unfortunately, is multiple food allergies, lol. Two of my four boys have allergies, so we rarely go out, so I cook most nights. We sat down as a family and I had them rattle off all the dinners that I make and I was surprised it was over 30. (I felt like we were eating the same things over and over again). I categorized them into Crock Pot, Chicken, etc and just sit with that list and add one new meal in a week. I shop for the proteins twice a month and veggies and produce weekly. We have Taco Tuesday's, Thursday's are always leftovers, Saturday BBQ and on Sunday's I make a double batch of sauce (freeze some for the next week)and have pasta:)
Meal Planning is a misnomer. At a very basic level we are dish/receipe planning. This is why we root through the frige to see what dish/receipe we need to make before the ingredients go bad. Then we combine Multiple dishes to make a meal (or a single dish can be a meal). As 73yo bachelor who is trying to figure out this cooking thing, it really helps me learn how to cook and bake if I can eliminate ambiguities like "Meal Planning". I stumbled on to your Channel while researching the art of dish planning. Brilliant! I am a fan!
I just want to say THANK YOU! You're heaven sent!!! Best Christmas gift this season for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I've learned so much watching your videos. My kiddos and I thank you! 💜💜💜
Can u do a video on baking the frozen meals that are packed away in those dollar store containers in the freezer? Lower temp? Longer? You know - tell us :) Luv u Page :)
I usually take it out the night before. I took one of my freezer meals out the day off and it was still frozen by supper it took FOREVER to cook. So now I take it out the night before and put it in the fridge and then in the morning I will put it on the counter. I don't change temp at all but sometimes cook it longer.
Not sure about hers. But I would make the stuff up and then cook them when I took it out. Ex. I have made manicotti amd froze it. So I would follow the recipe and then when it gets to the part to bake I would freeze it at that point. When I was ready to eat it. I would take it out of the freezer let it thaw in fridge overnight then take it out and set on the counter for a while. And bake it for supper that night.
This is ALL completely new to me and I just happened upon your videos while searching. I love that you take an inventory of what's in the refrigerator! Such a simple thought and yet it never crossed my mind. I'm tired of throwing food away! This is what happens when you're mom always cooks and never involves you in the process. I'm also tired of grabbing and going with no kind of plan. It's either not enough so I tend to overeat later or it's just unhealthy. Anyway, I'm having weight loss surgery in May and I'm excited to start incorporating new ways to plan, prepare and succeed. I'll be adding your videos to my list of resources for success. Thank you!!!!
I make lists of what is in my refrigerator freezer ( not large- but stuffed full ) and pantry and meals go from there Right now $ is tight so " get creative" is my motto Thanks for the great tips it never dawned on me to look @ the front & back of ads only
Completely agree. I made rice in the rice cooker, added a bag of frozen veggies that we probably got on sale for $1 into a pan after rinsing. After that was done I also added in a small can of pineapple chunks. Then I had a bag of gardein chicken with sauce I so cooked that & cut them into small pieces. It was just me so lasted at least a few days but it was one of my favorite things. I also make salads a lot but I use seeds, either croutons, tortilla strips,or fried onions-whatever’s on sale or I have. Another thing is I cut up an onion put it in a pan with some sunbutter, garlic powder, onion powder,& whatever dried herbs and cook for maybe 10mins. I add it to mashed potatoes and grilled cheese(I use follow your heart but if you use cow cheese it might taste different, idk.) so good. I search Pinterest mostly but online too for meal ideas with what I have, what’s on sale that I’m getting,or what is onto a few ingredients but will last at least a couple days. I only cook for myself and my son so I do find it kinda complicated to make food that’s too much & we’re (mostly me) stuck eating it for 4 days straight. -***Checking the middle of the ads is still a good idea. I find items I needn’t that help with my meal planning or items that I would have bought full price the next week had I not known it was on sale,& just skipped the aisle. I honestly think it’s a bad idea to skip the middle pages.
You are so right about how important meal planning is! Occasionally I will try as close to a no spend month and use what I have in freezer/pantry and get creative. Sometimes a new favorite comes from those times. I do normally go through freezer/pantry and see what I have and maybe just need one thing to make it. I also do like you say and if something is a really good deal I get more than 1! So important to do that when it is something you really like because you don’t want to pay the higher price
I don’t understand how people don’t eat leftovers. It’s seems like a negative thing. But it’s worse when my mom makes some bomb food, and it’s gone in one night.
Agree. Believe it or not, I know poor people who won’t eat them and just throw away food. Because they say it doesn’t taste as good. My parents kept a mid size bowl in the freezer. Any leftover vegetables, beans or meat went into it. As to not waste it. When the bowl was full. Defrost, add some type of broth, seasoning, rice, pasta, or anything else, you would like, maybe a can of rotel or tomatoes and you have a fairly cheap meal.
People don't eat leftovers when 1) The meal was not good to begin with, or 2) they are used to eating whatever they feel like, instead of whatever's available.
Super helpful video Jordan! I think this is the most helpful video I have watch of yours so far. It really nails down all the most helpful tip and steps on exactly how to save money on grocery. Thanks!
Thank you!!! Brilliant tips. Q: Have you ever done a video on organizing the extra freezer?? Please consider it, fairly sure your extra freezers are VERY organized 😄😁
Oh yes! I would love to see a deep freeze organization video. It never fails stuff gets lost at the bottom and years later you find it only to have to toss it.
Summer Shirley I have a post on my site! funcheaporfree.com/2018/09/how-to-inventory-your-freezer-pantry-and-fridge-free-freezer-inventory-printable-included/
I am so glad you did a video on this. I complain all the time while watching some of these people meal plan. They find a recipe to make for every night (to each their own) but if your purpose is to lower your budget, make a recipe with what you have. Inventory that freezer and pantry 1st then meal plan. I'm with ya girl. Best way to save!!!
If u have a few friends that are into freezer meals.. u can do a swap! everyone makes a few extra portions of their fav recipe then swap them for other freezer meals that way everyone walks away with a few different meals for their freezers. Its awesome 👍🏼
Jennifer here from Las Vegas nv. I love you Jordan. I’m fairly new to your channel, I’ve watched so many of your newer videos, I get so excited when I get A notification of a new upload. Thank you for giving all your secrets. They have helped my family a ton. Keep uploading!!!!
I do pretty much the same. BUT: - I do have a freezer inventory, where I write down everything that gets into the freezer. I always know what I have in there. And because it's ordered, I know what's been sitting in my freezer for longer. - I have a meal plan template. Such as: on Monday chicken, on Tuesdays legumes, etc. When I meal plan I only have to think about the dish I'm gonna do with that main ingredient. Later in the week something out of the freezer. (Who is not exhausted by Friday?)
I need to update my freezer inventory as I put things in, not just when I need something. I like the idea of putting the date next to the item so just by glancing at the paper you can see what needs to go first.
You are my Spirit Animal. You're amazing. I long to be hyper organized but I'm disabled and the house has gotten away from me. I'm perpetually behind and it's exhausting and stressful. I can't wait to dig through your other videos. I'm just so impressed. And your kitchen is to die for!💕
I just subscribed to your channel yesterday😄, but I kinda like how you 've been giving tips and I thought "ehhmm...that could be solutions to my problems so far". I have been a fulltime mom for a year after quitting my job. Then I found the fact that it is really complicated though to be one because I try to do all the house chores my self without having any maids at home. Thank you bcause I think there are things I can learn from your experiences.. I am expecting a baby too like you (going to have 2 children 😁),so it's amazing to be in your channel. Hope you can share more...👍
I must've been living under a rock! I just found your YT channel and I just love you and your energy. You are amazing! I only have to cook for 2 and have a small freezer in my rental apartment. Thanks for all your tips and tricks. Love you Jordan!
Yes, great idea! Those are called "loss leaders"....priced so low to bring the customers in. But it takes someone who pays attention to prices to recognize the loss leaders in the ad. It takes several weeks to get your stockpiles up but then you really start saving on groceries after that. The site that I used to use to help me find the lowest prices isn't running anymore but I bet there are some good websites for this.
A tip that's been helping me is I have a big square bowl that I pull 3 frozen bags of different types of meat from my freezer and put in. This bowl stays in my fridge. I know then that the next 3 days I have to make a recipe with those proteins. It keeps me from using the excuse that nothing is thawed, and we arent going out as often. Also its forcing me to find new recipes and use what I already have. It's kinda become a game to my family and I. Saving the money too! 🤑👍
I don’t know if you will see this but I’ve just started watching your videos and I am loving your methods and ideas and I’m a teenager! I feel like your ideas work for anyone and everyone just change it a little for your own family
I have started low carb... I'm creating baskets per day ... so when that basket is done I'm done with my carbs for the day And when you are watching calculating intake it's a must to plan and be prepared
That is a great idea! My husband is diabetic and eats to many carbs. I'm going to recommend your basket idea to him. Unfortunately, he has a lot of business lunches, but it's a start! Thank you! 😊
low carb is bullshit. you need carbs to have enough energy. Otherwise you will get cravings because your body needs sugar. you can try a plantbased high carb diet. it will satisfy you, make you healthy and lean. carbs are your friends. eat the good carbs like potatoes, rice, pasta, fruits and veggies. and reduce the fat and the protein. If you don't wanna go vegan you can reduce the amont of meat and eat 50% and more carbs.
i have a little white board that is on the fridge so i can see at a glance what we are having. i plan on a sunday night for the whole week and go shopping for the stuff i need on a monday. it has saved me money doing it this way as i only buy what i need for that week. i do only try going once per week but sometimes i do need to go again but not that often. being on maternity leave and having reduced income doing these things has helped so much. We do leftovers once per week also.
Out of the thousands of videos on budgeting, this one is actionable, makes complete sense, and presented in a clear way. I've been following you for a short while, and you amaze me every time. I've already started my block schedule. I've been trying to meal plan for years and was never able to swing it for more than a few weeks. I'll try it again now. Groceries hit $1400 this month :O.... And we ate out, a lot.
Great tips ,I am a meal plan virgin ,I'm due to do my big shop next week we try to shop fornightly as a rule with a mini shop around £30 For milk and fresh stuff, I have started to look at what I already have and at bulk buying to see if this is cheaper ,also what I buy at the moment I try to get two meals from each lot of ingredients, like we bought beef mince and I made a cottage pie and some burgers, I will let you know how I get on xx
This was very enlightening! Something i like about your videos already is you suggest something to people Without them feeling bad/dumb for not knowing these things! It's great! And fantastic tips, usually use Evernote to clip a ton of recipes to notebooks and notebook stacks! However, I can see how having a physical book of those same recipes printed without having to run to my phone for half the cooking process would be more time efficient, also love the idea of a pretty binder!
I love the fact you have as many people as you due to cook for and they eat what you cook; Does anyone in your house complain about what they are eating. Your tips are great; I got a five year old who will help in the kitchen, he loves to put ingredients in mixing bowls or with the help of mom and dad flip a grilled cheese, then says "I am not eating that"! Just so you understand I am the mom who makes sneakie brownies with spinach in them! Great video.
I am a mom of two, my oldest will eat everything and then some, even if he doesn't like it, never had an issue with him. It's my youngest I worrie about interms of him getting what he needs, because he's the kid that doesn't like food, polar opposite from his brother. We are two weeks into kindergarten and even his teacher asked me why he doesn't eat his snack, and I put things in his snack bag that he will usually eat. I do agree with your comment, my comment comes from a different head space given I have a kid who would just not eat, in fact my pediatrician suggested a product, its like the drink "boost" but for younger kids, he will drink one these a day again just to make sure he's getting what he needs.
Enlightening, thank you for sharing something that must be very difficult! That is certainly a valid concern, some children will lean towards overeating, and others, like your son, the opposite direction. I'm sorry to hear of your struggle, hope he grows out of it, starts gaining a healthy appetite, and maintains good health in general! I suppose my first inclination was to wonder as to whether it was the case of a child testing boundaries, and and a parent being afraid to set them, as they are important to healthy development. If my husband and I were to have children, he has admitted he would definitely have a tough time with discipline and things like that. I know I would still feel terrible to have to be the only one establishing the boundaries and potentially be seen as the "bad guy", even if I knew it was important for the child and they would hopefully grow to understand one day. I would not have thought of your scenario, but that's something good to be aware of for sure. I think anyone with children is brave bc there are so many scenarios that you may have to deal with and no manual, just a gazillion different answers on google and opinions from various sources, you all just do your best, is the hope!
Thank you for your response - like I said its a different "head space"; I grew up eating what was placed before me and trust me If I chose not to eat and came back and asked for something, nothing special would be offered even if offered at all. I love my kids, and I hope you and your husband are not being "pressured" to have them", its hard work, they don't listen and they complain, and setting boundaries, your married you know what that's like. My advice would be this, are you willing to get into a relationship with someone who you will become personal cook, shopper, driver and therapist to, while catering to needs you never saw coming! I hate it when people say "oh its so worth it" ; I love my kids, I have two so I figure I have a kidney for both if they need one and I wouldn't trade them for the world. I watch Jordan with what is it 5 kids and think no, I can't and watch her in wonderment because she come across so effortless. If you and your husband have kids discipline is easy because when they are little its about safety and the "no" comes easy, as long as the conversation is not about gummy bears! I hope I didn't offend and thank you for understanding my little guy who does't like food😊
Yep. When we visit my parents my mom always makes sure to add some fruit, applesauce, block or shredded cheese, or other things she knows he’ll eat as a side to the meal. He gets some put on his plate by me. Then when that’s gone he has to try at least 2-3 bites of the main meal,if he doesn’t like it than fine he can have more of the sides but most times he likes it,& will even have 3rds. Sometimes my dad or I when I’m at home will have something he insists he not eating and say wow this is so good I’m glad -child name- isn’t having any Bowman I getting it all to myself,or I hope he doesn’t touch this super delicious food while I’m refilling my water. Lol it usually works but we don’t say it condescending just genuinely as possible. I use mio enhancer to get him to drink water,& just call it water juice.
Thank you for sharing your tips! As a new wife and soon-to-be mom, I really find your videos so helpful! I do hope you will use more reusable containers rather than the foil disposable ones in the future though. 😊 More power to you!♡
That’s a counter depth fridge/freezer combo. Many manufacturers have those. I like this one. www.homedepot.com/p/KitchenAid-22-cu-ft-Bottom-Freezer-Refrigerator-in-Stainless-Steel-KRBL102ESS/205851305
Take the salmon, cook it in frying pan and crumble it up. Mix with onions and rice and some spices. Have canned corn or fresh broccoli or a salad and boom! Quick easy, filling meal!
The rule of one store one time per week is such a great tip. I went to the store three times last week (outside of my main shopping trip) to pick up "just one thing" and ended up spending at least $15 each time. 😩
New subscriber here! So excited to have found your channel! Your budgeting tips have inspired me to make some changes to the way my family spends money. But I do not know how you have so much energy! Please do a video on how to keep your energy levels up and keep from losing your sanity as a mother and wife. Jk but not really. K Thanks!
I start my meal plan the same way you do. I check out what I already have. I go to a couple different stores however, they are on the same street. I do major shopping once per month and cook many vegetables on the same day to store in the fridge or freezer. This makes cooking and eating healthy during the week much easier. I just cook the protein. I also meal prep my lunch so, I found it more likely to maintain if I lunch meal prep for myself every 3 days. It keeps me personally from feeling overwhelmed.
We actually do take inventory before we go shopping but I think we need to use the 1 store 1x a week rule! I also like the idea of creating my family favorites notebook! Thank you!
Since my family doesn't meal plan I have to look in the fridge, freezer, or pantry to see what's available and then make something out of that. Everyone is old enough to cook and eat for themselves but I always liked family meals and eating together even if everyone doesn't eat the same thing.. Once I move out on my own (currently living my aunt, uncle, and 2 cousins) I will meal plan like the way you said how to do because it really does look like the best way. Every time I ask about meal planing the answer I always get is "Everyone eats on their own schedule or your cousin doesn't eat half the food I cook(aka she is now a picky eater). I get that but still and the other thing is my aunt is not big on leftovers so when she cooks it's like ok if 3 people are eating then I make 3 servings of this and no more.
I make a lot of my own too. My bf’s parents (who I have the utmost misfortune of living with) used to just trash whatever was left after dinner. I was like what’s going on? They just didn’t like leftovers,-that was a no go in my family,it was usually at least one day a week where all the leftovers were brought out,& there was no complaining you didn’t like it. They finally learned after I kept mentioning it should be saved. They still end up tossing quite a bit. The thing that really irritates me is I’ll make something & have it in the fridge a day or maybe a few days & I’m getting yelled at that my food is trash(not like gone bad they just are rude to be rude,& don’t like my taste in food, idk) and why has it been there so long (a day,or so?) yet have their leftovers from 3 weeks ago just sitting there,so gross.
Same like my family is just weird about leftovers but I love it because it's one less meal that I have to cook for myself. Plus they don't even believe in buying meet to freeze it for another day so they end up going to the grocery store like 3 times a week just to get meat for one night and then like a pasta box for the next day.
wow this was super helpful. I have been married for three months and have ZERO knowledge of meal planning. I get so overwhelmed but your tips make it super easy. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
If you have grocery store anxiety like me, then m tip is to NOT SHOP on a weekend! Instead of looking around for the best price, I get stressed out and grab the first thing in sight. Or you can just order your groceries for pickup, if it’s free.
I hate it too,I have anxiety as well. I like going at night but with a child I now go when he’s in school. Only problem is I don’t drive & his dad is the worst person to shop with, skyrockets my anxiety. I use Pinterest first honestly I find cheap meals with ingredients I mainly already have or that are cheap & only need a few. Takes awhile but it’s another thing I do while he’s in school, sleeping,or just relaxing on his own. I made spaghetti but idk what to do with 1/2 a jar of sauce so I made the whole box and it took me a week to eat. Which is also good for sales like pasta sauce was on sale for 75(/,I told his dad to get some,& he said no. The next week it was $1.50 each and he bought a bunch and bragged whag good a deal it was,I was so annoyed that’s literally double the cost. I use some coupons but not many since I became plant based and started making my own healthy foods too. Apps help too like the rebate ones, along with receipthog and fetch. Something my dad instilled in us as kids was to search price per oz. it may take a few extra seconds or for someone like me who sometimes has trouble staying focused a couple minutes but it’s worth it.
Definitely start with what you have and go from there. Some of our family favorites have come from made up recipes using what we have. Our favorite is Beefaladas. Basically mix some kind of taco meat with cooked rice, cheese and enchilada sauce/salsa/tomato puree (whatever tomatoey food you have) and roll up in flour tortillas. Bake at 350 until nice and hot and the tortilla edges are getting a bit crispy. Serve with guac or sour cream. Super yummy!
I had a crappy past couple of hours and this put a smile on my face and inspired me to meal plan “the right way lol” I love you Jordan page! Thank you for all that you do and share!!!!!
So smart to take an inventory to use up first! I have never thought of this. I have been meal planning for years and it always seem to have random stuff that goes bad. Thanks for your tips!!
Mom of boys- keeping it simple for me would be something like: MONDAY (Asian theme food) TUESDAY (taco night - a kit/wrap and meat with extras related or a simple quesadilla WEDNESDAY (spaghetti/meatball/pasta) THURSDAY (fish/salmon/tuna sandwich/helper or soup) to keep it lighter since we ate heavy on Wednesday FRIDAY- Pizza 🍕 night/ DIY or Called in but we save more buying little mini sized 3 pack crusts) SATURDAY (eat out or some new recipe) SUNDAY (left overs) Then REPEAT FOR SANITY 😂 I printed a simple calendar from WORD doc (placed on fridge) and started noting what we ate and just remember how to cook them since they are simple or just throw in whatever extras to change it up. I keep these pages so I can refer back to them if and when we changed it up. My family hasn’t complained so far 😁 Has made meals easier Thanks for the all recipes link to input items you already have to make a meal! 💜💜💜
You can make your own pizza crust! All you need it flour, olive oil, yeast, a tiny bit of sugar to get the yeast going and salt. It's easy enough that you can do it with your children and then let them have fun with decorating their own! The dough can also be frozen (kept in the freezer for up to 2 months). You can also use the some one to make garlic bread, some bread rolls or bread sticks ;)
Here you go, it took less time than I expected xD For me it makes one massive pizza or 2 medium sized but you can divide it up the way you want. You will need: a full glass of WARM water (alternatively, half water, half milk) 500 g of plain flour 40g of FRESH yeast (or about 10-11g of instant yeast, whatever is available. I prefer the fresh ones but whatever works for you is good) 2 teaspoons of sugar (-to help the medicine go down-) 2 teaspoons of salt 4 tablespoons of olive oil. To kick start the yeast, mix them with half the amount of water and all sugar and set aside for about 8-10 minutes, for the yeast to wake up. (it might be shorter or longer, depending also on the room temperature. The warmer, the quicker). After the yeast started working, mix the rest of the ingredients and add the yeast to them. Knead until it doesn't stick to your hand anymore (or until it sticks completely to the mixing parts of your food processor, but mind, that for that you need a part that looks similar to this: images.okazje.info.pl/p/sprzet-agd/2654/th300/smeg-hak-do-ciasta-do-smdh01.jpg it's specially designed for yeast dough). Leave it aside in a warm place for about 30 minutes (or until it doubled the size). Spread or roll to the size, add your tomato sauce, favourite toppings &c and bake in 180 degrees Celsius until the edges are golden brown
Wow! This might be just what I need! Hubby and I are terrible about forgetting things in the fridge until they go bad. Starting with what needs used up, then ads, and then writing the meals on a whiteboard should help. Thanks!!!
I was about to not watch this video, because I was like, “Pfff, we’re doing fine and I plan meals around what we have.” But... because I DID learn to plan around my freezer and pantry from my great mentor, JPdizzle, (Jordan Page), I thought I’d let go of my pride, and low and behold! I needed to learn to even start at the fridge, take an inventory, AND to learn to shop sales (#painpoint). I always meal plan and order my groceries on Fridays, then pick them up Saturday morning. Then I’ll make time Saturday day and/or Sunday to precook breakfasts and maybe put some casseroles together to just throw in the oven for dinners later that week if I have time.
+Jordan Page, FunCheapOrFree Love your videos. Very helpful and useful tips. Could you please make a video showing us how you can make a whole meal with that one piece of salmon?
I already do a lot of what you do so I'm saying "YES!!!" to almost everything. LOL When I'm searching meals I try to search recipes that are $1- $3 per serving. I also shop at different stores. Not as many as I used to but I do find that i am saving more . 1 wholesale store, farmers market or similar for cheaper produce and 1 general store. What I have learned from out and LOVE is that you organize your recipe binder by protein type, That is GENIUS! I will be making that change for sure. Also, I'm checking out grocery ordering! Great tips in the video! God bless you and your family!
This is only my 3rd FCF video. I started with the laundry one because it kept popping up in my recommendations and I had to see what was so special. Right off I knew I wouldn't like you (too perfect and perky for a bitter ol' bat like me) but I was wrong on so many levels. You are kooky and inspiring, and you have infectious energy ~ oh to have that again (please infect me)! You made total sense about several things, i.e. clothing texture, so now I'm doing laundry your way. There's only me so it's not really impacting my life but it just feels right, ok. Next I picked the vein video - I thought what vein problem, her legs are perfect?! OMG my heart went out to you. I do not have vein issues but I felt your pain that day, and then I was hooked. So this meal planning video was my 3rd choice. Even though I'm a thrifty/frugal shopper, it's always great to get another tip or 2, and I pretty much plan meals like this already, always based on what's on sale. I'd like to add 2 things for my 2 cents: When freezing some meals like soup, chili, marinara sauce and the like, I use freezer zip lock bags so everything lies flat and stacks up fine when frozen. You can really pack 'em in and save space in the freezer. Secondly - thank you for appreciating the lowly leftovers! I'll never understand why they've gotten a bad wrap and why some would rather waste food than eat leftovers. I even make pizza omelettes with leftover pizza (peel off the cheesy top for the omelette and toast the crust in the oven) - awesome, try it!!. An old boyfriend loved that and said he never met anyone who made an entirely different meal with pizza. I do have a "fresh" rule: once a meal is made, I freeze right away rather than, say, a 3-day old chicken frozen for a future meal. If it's been in the fridge for a few days, it's not going to the freezer because the thought of old food makes me queasy. Another thing, some of the best meals I've made were when I had no money and needed to figure out what I could make with what's in the pantry. To me that's true survival - being able to make a delicious meal out of nothing. If life gives you potatoes, make potato soup (and freeze some)! Lastly, I love your sense of humor and the corny faces you make - you have got to be the most fun mom ever!
I really thought this was a no-brainer (starting off with what you have in the fridge and pantry) I've been searching recipes with ingredient-keywords for years:)
Good tips 👍👍👍
Awesome ideas! Also, could precook neutrally seasoned ground meat (chicken, turkey, beef, whatever) and freeze, put in a ziplock bag, scoop out a few ounces at a time to use in a meal for one (hello nachos!) or add to cheap frozen dinner or soup to make it more filling/nutritious.
Thank you! Would love more of these
My mom did this as well, after my dad died and she lived alone.
Well done you that's amazing x
Tracy Waring thank you!
That's pretty dang impressive! Is that food only? Or do you include replacables like dishsoap and sponges in that budget?
Such a great idea! My only problem is that my hubby and I are SO picky lol it'd be hard for us to find foods we'd want in return. 🙈
@@stacyhigginson170 lol i know your pain! My besties sons are both autistic and tend to lose it when "normals" turn into "remixes" for them. It is fun to have a surprise though 😉
What a creative idea
Love this!
Siobhan Sargent omg I need to do this
I meal plan by making 30 freezer meals in a day!
Me too, girl. Me too!!! 🙋🙋🙋
Me too. Our small side-by-side fridge simply won't hold 3 gallons of milk plus all our produce for the week. I usually do one big and one small grocery run per week.
yes! I go for milk and my bill comes out to $60 plus....
VANESSA STRADA this was especially a life saver with babies! Do you like the produce? My store can be eh
I was totally doing this backwards. I tried this for my meal plan today and was shocked!!!! I filled a whole notebook paper with useable ingredients!!!! What?!?! Jordan you rock!
I'm having a hard time with the stock pile, I literally have no space to store anything
I agree, good tip.
Susan
under beds, linen closet, look at your space differently and you can find storage space.
Penelope Smith love this!!!!!!
Sarah Schneider that comment makes me so sad, you should tell your parents how you feel and maybe you could help them with the planning or cooking.
Yes! Don’t schedule a new and technical recipe on a busy evening!!
I feel like I should be paying for this 😂😂😂 I love that you do this and help the ones that cant afford to pay for professional help!
Hugs
that's awesome!
Its doable!
M A Walker I want to do this the months with 5 weeks to plan for
When I was raising my kids, I found that we had about 15-20 go to recipes that everybody would eat.
Wow. 8 kids! You’re a superhero.
Great idea to stretch one protein. We started incorporating Vegetarian nights to cut back on expensive meats.
This is a wonderful tip! We also like to stretch one protein through various reincarnations of leftovers in a week. Thank you for sharing!
LOVE this idea so much! Thanks!
Scatter Vanshine Oh my! 8 kids and a single parent?! Amazing! May I ask can you share a list of the recipes or recipes?
You can make your own “whiteboard” by laminating a plain white sheet of paper. I have two of them stuck inside my kitchen cabinet & I write my meal plan for the week in there. 😄
Thank you! Great tip!
I will already put the weekdays on the sheet and the necessary lines and than laminate it.
Mine is a thrifted picture frame with pretty paper inside, just write on the glass!
You can also put a piece of printer paper in a page protector out of one of your kids binders and clip that to the fridge too
I started doing this way of meal planning and it cut my weekly food budget from $50 to $15-$20.
I take the carcass and put it in a pot, cover it with water, add celery, onion, carrot... and maybe a bullion cube ... when carrots are done, I remove carcass and remove the meat and put it back in pot... cook some noodles... and serve. Third meal.
Strangely enough, already cooked chickens are cheaper than the whole frozen ones where I live.
Laurie, the frozen chicken is usually larger by weight. But most of the time you can find legs or thighs on sale for as low as .69 cents a pound.
Actually, you CAN freeze grapes! Haha! That was one of my favorite summer snacks as a kid!
A Beautiful Horizon do you just freeze them in baggies??? And they taste ok when you thaw them out? I know I have tried with green grapes and it never worked out. Pls share any tips.
@@summershirley7511 you only eat them frozen never fully thaw
I usually use a baggie like a zip block bag, and they're just as good, to me its like a mini popsicle because of the texture. I found red grapes work out best.
Yes! I've got a bunch of green grapes in my freezer right now 😁 I'll pick them off the stem (I don't know if that's necessary, it's just what I've always done), stick them in a box, and whenever I want grapes I can just grab a handful! I let them thaw most of the way before eating them and it works out wonderfully 😍
my sisters freezes them and puts them in wines too cool down the wine in summer
I agree. Some of my local stores have deals to good to pass up. I try to hit all of them on one trip as to not waste gas.
Next best thing if stores aren't close to each other
That sounds like mommy vacation!!!! 😍😍😍
Jordan, u are legit one of my ALL-TIME fave youtubers...you ALWAYS dish up (get it? LOL) very high value content. Thank u!!
Love, love, love your content. I live in Australia, so not everything works for us here but you always keep my mind ticking over how I could make things more productive and financially viable. So glad I found you ❤
Toyah Sansum me too, another fellow Aussie! I did find shopfully app that has catalogues on it. Still working on the rest...
can you explain or do a video on freezing meals? It is a little intimidating for me, and I'd love to learn more! Thanks for sharing your awesome tips and ideas!! :D
I second a freezing video!
I started doing this as soon as I got married.. I thought I was normal I guess not😂😂 I’ve been married for 8 years now 😊saves us a ton on our budget
We ended up eating eggs a lot
We figured out a week of menu.
I would like to suggest doing menu planning with a side dish
I have sour cream that isn’t going to last very longer.
I think you are the most productive momma living on earth 😂 Thank you!!! I learn a lot from you ❤️❤️❤️
I love the website Super Cook out pulls recipes from places like all recipes and you can type in everything you have and it will pull up all the recipes you can make using what you already have.
This should be a tip. DONT GO SHOPPING HUNGRY
AMEN!! 😃😃
Say it again.... I stay in SAMS Club
Lol, i go to places like Costco when I need things and have a great time eating the samples 😂 I’m so full it keeps me in check
Lol I thought that's what she was gonna say
Absolutely true!!
Will keep watching you in spare time
I really like the idea of writing the things I have on hand on the left side of the paper. Thanks for the great idea!
Oh my ... where have you been all my life.
Thank you! ❤️
Way to go!! Thanks for telling your friends!! 🥰
I just inventoried my pantry, looked at what's on sale and built my meal plan around that (oh, and only went to one store) aaaaaannnd:
I only spent $136 on groceries for the whole week!!!
Way to go!! SO proud of you and happy for you!
Thank you!
When your kids come to visit they can take some of your frozen leftovers! Or at least that’s what I would do:’D
Kim Molloy what are your go to meals?!!! Mama of 5 and I need some help!
Kim Molloy Wow 35 go to meals?! 35? Lady what's your secret? Also, how frequently do you shop for meats & do you have a strategy for this shopping?
Kim Molloy I do the Same thing but I also make a meal plan so Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday I have a certain meal each day of the week so Mondays are chicken Tuesdays taco tuesday;) wednesday pork Thursday pasta Friday is beef. That way I know we aren't getting burned out of one meat. And it makes making meals faster.
Weekends are fast and easy meals
Brilliant! I am a fan!
Yay, so glad your videos are back!! 💗
Yes! I'm back in action!
Agreed
Yes!!!!!
I usually take it out the night before. I took one of my freezer meals out the day off and it was still frozen by supper it took FOREVER to cook. So now I take it out the night before and put it in the fridge and then in the morning I will put it on the counter. I don't change temp at all but sometimes cook it longer.
Were the frozen meals precooked? I'm trying to figure that out.
I make lists of what is in my refrigerator freezer ( not large- but stuffed full ) and pantry and meals go from there
Right now $ is tight so " get creative" is my motto
Thanks for the great tips it never dawned on me to look @ the front & back of ads only
Completely agree.
Tonight we used up rice we made like 2 days ago and pulled pork from last night and mixed them and fried them up and bammm dinner!
I know, I’m sad when there’s no leftovers!
Laura - me too, I always use them for tomorows lunch....😊
BUT:
- I do have a freezer inventory, where I write down everything that gets into the freezer.
Hope you can share more...👍
Thanks dear for the 💟😊
Send your maid here!!!!! 😍
I must've been living under a rock! I just found your YT channel and I just love you and your energy. You are amazing! I only have to cook for 2 and have a small freezer in my rental apartment. Thanks for all your tips and tricks. Love you Jordan!
Can you do a video on how to know when something is a good price and worth grabbing multiples for stockpiling?
Yes, great idea! Those are called "loss leaders"....priced so low to bring the customers in. But it takes someone who pays attention to prices to recognize the loss leaders in the ad. It takes several weeks to get your stockpiles up but then you really start saving on groceries after that. The site that I used to use to help me find the lowest prices isn't running anymore but I bet there are some good websites for this.
I love the idea of shopping in your fridge/pantry/freezer before ever going in the store! LOVE!!! Thank you Jordan you're amazing.
Thank you! 😊
@@yolandareygaert1503 you're welcome... with lunches I buy my low carb snacks put them in snack bags and he could put in his brief case
low carb is bullshit. you need carbs to have enough energy.
Clarissa Mason I like that idea! I've lost 15 pounds doing low carb. I will have to try this. What type of snacks do you eat?
@@happygirl7258 I really like pork rinds all the time lol .... almonds or cheese or beef jerky
i have a little white board that is on the fridge so i can see at a glance what we are having. i plan on a sunday night for the whole week and go shopping for the stuff i need on a monday. it has saved me money doing it this way as i only buy what i need for that week. i do only try going once per week but sometimes i do need to go again but not that often. being on maternity leave and having reduced income doing these things has helped so much. We do leftovers once per week also.
Tip: I always buy my aluminum pans and lids at Sam's Club because you can get 30 something of each for just under $7.
She has a video on It. Lol she tells them to choke it down. When they dont like it 😂
I am a mom of two, my oldest will eat everything and then some, even if he doesn't like it, never had an issue with him.
😊 More power to you!♡
what fridge is that. It looks fabulous
That’s a counter depth fridge/freezer combo. Many manufacturers have those. I like this one. www.homedepot.com/p/KitchenAid-22-cu-ft-Bottom-Freezer-Refrigerator-in-Stainless-Steel-KRBL102ESS/205851305
Just like you said. I do almost everything... backwards. Thanks for the hints!
Take the salmon, cook it in frying pan and crumble it up. Mix with onions and rice and some spices. Have canned corn or fresh broccoli or a salad and boom! Quick easy, filling meal!
Yass! I love the idea of taking a physical inventory of what you have, then searching by those ingredients! You're amazing, Jordan 😊
The rule of one store one time per week is such a great tip. I went to the store three times last week (outside of my main shopping trip) to pick up "just one thing" and ended up spending at least $15 each time. 😩
Same with me!
I have a hard time with this.
Oh my, you make it see so easy! With 5 kids and one to come... you are a rock star!
Thank you!
I just discovered Jordan a few days ago and I am loving her. This is by far one of the best tips and tricks videos I have seen. Thanks so much!
Look at that cute belly! Baby will be here soon! Love your channel. Thanks for all the tips and ideas.
I had a crappy past couple of hours and this put a smile on my face and inspired me to meal plan “the right way lol” I love you Jordan page! Thank you for all that you do and share!!!!!
wow l love it , such good ideas!
So smart to take an inventory to use up first! I have never thought of this. I have been meal planning for years and it always seem to have random stuff that goes bad. Thanks for your tips!!
Mom of boys- keeping it simple for me would be something like:
MONDAY (Asian theme food)
TUESDAY (taco night - a kit/wrap and meat with extras related or a simple quesadilla
WEDNESDAY (spaghetti/meatball/pasta)
THURSDAY (fish/salmon/tuna sandwich/helper or soup) to keep it lighter since we ate heavy on Wednesday
FRIDAY- Pizza 🍕 night/ DIY or Called in but we save more buying little mini sized 3 pack crusts)
SATURDAY (eat out or some new recipe)
SUNDAY (left overs)
Then REPEAT FOR SANITY 😂
I printed a simple calendar from WORD doc (placed on fridge) and started noting what we ate and just remember how to cook them since they are simple or just throw in whatever extras to change it up.
I keep these pages so I can refer back to them if and when we changed it up. My family hasn’t complained so far 😁 Has made meals easier
Thanks for the all recipes link to input items you already have to make a meal! 💜💜💜
Mari Mari Love this!
You can also use the some one to make garlic bread, some bread rolls or bread sticks ;)
unlimitedfuture Oh wow! Saving this info :) I like that it can be frozen! Can make ahead. Thank you 🙏🏼
@@MariMari-vq8hl you're welcome :) I'll dig out the recipe I'm using for you a bit later today, I need to find it first 😂
Here you go, it took less time than I expected xD
For me it makes one massive pizza or 2 medium sized but you can divide it up the way you want.
You will need:
a full glass of WARM water (alternatively, half water, half milk)
500 g of plain flour
40g of FRESH yeast (or about 10-11g of instant yeast, whatever is available. I prefer the fresh ones but whatever works for you is good)
2 teaspoons of sugar (-to help the medicine go down-)
2 teaspoons of salt
4 tablespoons of olive oil.
Judith Gaeta You could stretch the salmon with black beans, cheese, sour cream, salsa, and avocado to make tacos that would feed a family.
@@haveyougotyourtowel Thank you. I will definitely be trying this.
You can also make something like pasta primavera and flake salmon into it.
I'm so happy to hear this! Thank you!
I am like an addict to your videos
Haha that makes me happy! Thanks!
Same here.. totally addicted!
I've been doing it backwaaards! I looked around and found enough ingredients for almost a full week of varied meals! Thank you!
I want your energy lol!
