The Book of Ruth: A Tale of Love, Loyalty, and Redemption

Welcome! The Book of Ruth takes place during the time of the judges, a period marked by moral decay and political instability in Israel. Famine drives a man named Elimelech and his family from Bethlehem, the "house of bread," to the land of Moab, located east of the Dead Sea. The decision to leave their homeland is not made lightly, for it signifies a departure from the promised land and a departure from the presence of their God.
Tragedy strikes as Elimelech and his two sons, Mahlon and Chilion, die in Moab, leaving behind Elimelech's wife, Naomi, and her two Moabite daughters-in-law, Orpah and Ruth. Bereft of their husbands and facing an uncertain future, Naomi decides to return to Bethlehem, urging her daughters-in-law to remain in Moab and seek new husbands among their own people.
