Brother I'm still trying to thank you enough for the 3m sandpaper!!! Doesn't get hot on lathe with n still using same ones outta the combo pack! You even more my boy after that one blue!
I have the same ISOTune AirDefender and I have to be honest when I first ordered them I thought they would be a nuisance--wow was I wrong!!! I absolutely love them... I'll put them on when I'm putting finish on a project so I can listen to music and not annoy my wife with endless hours of Iron Maiden... they are comfortable (and I wear glasses) the charge lasts for 5+ days in the shop-I consider them one of my best purchases ever.
I've used ISOTunes for a while now and they are without a doubt the best noise canceling/comfortable/convenient hearing protection I've ever used. Absolutely love them.
I bought the ISOtunes Air defenders when you first recommended them and I used your discount code. They are without a doubt one of the best purchases I have made this year. Super comfy & superb sound. Keep up the great work.
I just bought a pair. I found that they do not play sound loud enough at all. My first time using them was snowblowing and i could barely hear what i was trying to listen to. What I usually do which is put in airpods and carefully fit a cheap pair of 3M earmuff protectors over top, which is frustrating to get the airpods to stay in my ear. But comparing the two, the 3M earmuffs + airpods block more noise and play sound louder. You don't have that kind of issue?
Oh wow the pocket hole jig is way cheaper than I was expecting. Sometimes “cheap” in woodworking means “under $100,” I didn’t expect it to be $30. Thanks for sharing it, I’m definitely going to pick one up!
Regarding Saw Blade case, I have had one for a long time and like it a lot. I use fender washers between each blade to keep the blades from potentially damaging each other. BTW: Keep up the good work James, see ya next year.
In your video on 'Problems with planers and jointers with helical cutters' about 2 yrs ago. You had a comment on rust on the helical cutter heads if you had high moisture in the shop. I have a Woodmaster 18" planer I recently upgraded to their helical cutter head. When I first got my Woodmaster home, it had also included the sanding drum and gang saw. It had a solid steel bar that the drum mounted to it. To avoid the rust problem I sprayed the bare steel with spray layout blueing. It goes on very thin. It has not rusted and looks just as when I brought it home, in 1993.
Another great cool tools! - I have to say I bought a pair of IsoTunes Free years ago because of one of these videos, and I love them so much I had to get a second set. I find myself taking them out of the shop to use on my runs, or when I'm at work because I like them better than other earbuds even outside of the shop setting. Thanks for the recommendation stumpy!
Just ordered a 6” caliper, thank you for the information. The Bridge City Plane, wow, make a glass box for it and put it on the wall, beautiful, “Break Glass When Needed” plaque. Be Safe out there
Thank you for sharing, these are all very useful additions to make the projects more consistent. Stay warm, safe, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
all cool tools, and most of them easy enough to make. The multi-plane looks really smart, and the removable sole could be adapted to moulding plane use, though these things are probably more fuss than just having a slew of dedicated planes.
I always enjoy these episodes. And I decided that I needed a Christmas gift to myself for myself… the gift of hearing protection… and can’t wait for my isotunes ear muffs. Always wanted to try them. As always, thanks for all you do for the entire woodworking community Stumpy. 😊
Love the content as usual James. Suggestion for a video: Air compressors for woodworkers. I'm shopping for an air compressor for various woodworking tasks (blower for cleaning out machines, brads, framing nails, HVLP spraying) and am utterly confused as to what anything means and what I should look to buy or what price point to look for; horsepower? CFM? PSI? tank size? belt drive? direct drive? All so confusing
Same, though mine doesn't have the cool storage case. Mine just rattles around loose in the case it came in. Got mine like 3 years ago, and it hasn't failed me yet. Granted, I don't use it a ton, but I am on my second box of pocket screws.
That GuidePro thing looks amazing, and I don't even have a band saw. I'll have to look to see if they have a variant for table saws, something like a feather board but fancy and more usable. I've used 123 blocks as clamping squares, but if I have to build anything more cabinet-like I'll have to remember to pick them up.
I honestly planned on using the milescraft jig for a short time and then upgrading later. So far I haven't felt the need to upgrade. When I do, I'll probably go all out though. Very impressed with all of the milescraft gear that I've purchased to date.
Another great Cool Tools. Would love that Bridge City Plane. Thanks for doing theses Cool Tools videos and your support of small businesses. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
I've had a couple of the blade storage cases for at least ten years. The only thing I didn't like about them, and I see you did it too, is that blades come in contact with their neighbor. Carbide stored against steel or, worse, another carbide tooth isn't good for the blade. I went to the hardware store an bought some heavy 5/8" washers to separate the blades. Sometimes two are needed but it works really well.
CoolTools shows are a must see for tool freaks like myself. I would appreciate it if you could do a review of compasses accurate enough for woodworking. Why you may ask: While making five-star knobs I needed to inscribe a regular pentagon in a specific size circle, then perform the geometry procedure to determine the pentagon side length. Precision is critical and that means a stable compass during rotation and a sharp pin-point marker, which means easy and quick sharpening. Just an idea, throw it into the hat, it just may get picked. Thanks for a great Channel
I'm going to buy one of those Myles craft pocket jigs. I think it will cover most of my needs. I have a Trend one and its not as straight forward as the Myles. Thanks for showing it, its a nice little kit.
That mini plane is crazy shiny looking. 700$ though...seems like a lot but i can see why they would charge that much. It looks really solid and precisely milled
Really like these videos. The Bow GuidePro are on my list with a new Harvey Bandsaw. I want to ask, can you please tell the IsoTunes folks that their LEDs are just ...well..too bright? I've used markers and decals, but really shouldn't. Friends that enter my shop, think I'm some kinda robot.
That is quite the fancy plane! Pardon the question, but is the shaking in your left hand remnants of the injury from the grinder you warned us about a few years ago?
Guess how much the plane is before you scroll through the marketing material. Fun game. Cool stuff though, I'm picking up some isotunes for sure. And probably a few sets of the squares.
All those links in the description, but no Instagram link. That multi-plane looks like a full on addiction in & of itself. Might have to start that collection.
I just got the isotunes air defenders. They work well but the audio, even at the lowest volume, is quite loud. Anyone else think so or am I going crazy? Otherwise a great product, love listening to music while I work
Speaking of cool tools: If I was designing a shop vacuum... First, I'd start with a base that was like a hand-truck with two larger wheels (6-8") on the back under the upright/handle part and a pair of smaller swivel wheels in front. That would make it easy to move around even over rough areas without having to pick the whole bloody thing up. Second, the rack for all the accessories would be on the upright part with the waist height handle, not in a bin attached to the waste collection tub where you have to empty out all the accessories before you can dump what you have sucked up. Third, the waste bin should *not* be fixed to the base. It should simply rest on the base with a couple of snap locks to hold it when the vacuum is in use but it could easily be released from the base just like the motor unit can be released from the waste bin. Fourth, the hose would attach with a simple quarter-turn twist rather than multiple threads like a bottle cap that has to be screwed on with multiple turns. Shop-Vac and other vacuum makers, let me know when you make one like that.
It's nice that there are alternatives to the pocket hole jigs sold by Kreg. The Kreg kits seem so overpriced for what you get and how they are constructed. It's difficult for some to justify paying Kreg prices for tools that are made almost entirely of plastic. It's disappointing (and a bit confounding) that the Milescraft option is also made mostly of plastic, and it looks like it's not priced significantly less than similar Kreg products. But I recently found the options made by Massca (?) and picked one of those up. I got the M2 kit, which was priced less than a comparable Kreg kit at the time, but the kicker it that the Massca tool is made entirely of aluminum and steel (other than some intentionally soft parts in the clamping system). Best bang for your buck, IMO.
What clamping squares have better tolerance? 2 thousands is a lot in my shop, if you're building a larger box that adds up by the time you get to the next corner....
Thank you for these videos. Lots of people advertise products on UA-cam, but everything you recommend makes my life 1000x easier when woodworking, I never regret it, and I just want to say, I really appreciate you putting in the time and effort to make this series so high quality. You've helped me become a better woodworker with every post!
I love these videos. I have been considering the mini multi plane or a skew block plane but as i see you using this it appears unstable, it rocks side to side and jerks thru the wood . not smooth. Am I mistaken or is maybe it not fully sharpened yet?
Good video. What is unfortunate, Bridge City sold out to the $$ and now China makes them. I do own a trisquare and works good. Just as good as an old Stanley.
John Economaki, the founder of Bridge City tools wanted to pass his company on to someone he felt would do his legacy justice. He hand selected Harvey because he was convinced they were committed to making quality tools. He has remained with them as a consultant to this day. Here is an article about Harvey and it's founder that may give you some perspective: www.woodworkersjournal.com/harvey-bringing-woodworking-education-china/
I bought ISOTunes from your video. Unfortunately, they would not pair with my MAC operating system. Their support could have been more helpful, so I returned them.
Ok, I need advice on a project I am working on, it's a 9x9 ft 2x4 frame door. Making it like a shaker cabinet. Route the center of 2x4 with a 3/4 but so the wood slides in. Now I want to tongue and groove the end of 9 ft 2x4....this is where I am stuck I turned the table sideways at one point to use the fence as a to set the board but this is just dangerous so I stopped.. I don't know the correct way to do this..help?
I cannot find any independent reviews of the isotune earmuffs. The muffs never show up in any collection of products. To me this is strange if the product is supposedly so great.
You can't find any? Where have you looked? They have customer reviews on pretty much every product on their website. There are also thousands of reviews on ISOtunes products on Amazon and other retailers. UA-cam, Instagram and other social media is filled with unsponsored comments about them, as well.
James, I noticed in the video that you were using those Sjoberg Hold Fasts. Have you had problems with the nylon pad tending to crack making it useless? I've got 3 useless ones underneath my sjoberg benchtop
@@StumpyNubs Hey James, I did contact the USA distributor BORA/Affinity for resolution. In the interest of full disclosure they did REPLACE the entire Sjoberg Holdfast for me a couple of years ago and that has again cracked. Their Customer Service rep Lyn advised me that those individual nylon pads are not available. Maybe you can give them a shout and may get them to make them available. These cracking nylon pads are common if you believe some of the posts on woodworking forums. Thanks
Bought the iso tunes a couple of months back. not as comfortable as I would have hoped for the price. Granted I do have large ears 😂 Folks with larger ears don't waste your money just buy cheaper 3m they work just as well for half the price.
They have different models that fit differently. Instead of going the "one size fits all" rout with another brand, I would contact ISOtunes and ask their recommendation the next time you are in the market.
The one question, why did you put the pocket holes in the wrong direction? You put the pocket holes on the inside of the angle where it gives very poor strength. The pocket holes should be on the outside so the screws pull into the strength of the wood, from my understanding. Please correct me, as you are the professionals and I just want to make sure I'm doing mine correctly!
That plane goes for almost 8k dollars.. if i even got it as a Present id make a case for it and have it as a exebition object.. give me a normal Stanley so i can work.
I would have been more impressed with the segment on the pocket jig if you put the two pieces together correctly. Screws from the outside in... Always. No strength inside out.
@Stumpy Nubs OMG. I'd say you could easily go in 2.5k after skimming the link you provided. Speaking of triggered, tho... this does remind me of the kind of firearm that wealthy collectors covet : not necessarily more useful than a production model, but made of rare or expensive materials or made to insane tolerances. Guess I'm stuck way too far over in the utilitarian camp to appreciate this tool for what it is.
James can you please do a video on how you came up with the name stumpy nubs? Is there some kind of meaning behind it? People im sure would like to know 👍
Bridge City Tools Works tools have definitely decreased in quality since they moved manufacturing to china. They were known just as much for their quality as for their innovative designs. It is a real shame that another quality American made tool company sold out to china.
Cool tools... always like your videos...but can't help exclaiming............ $80.00 for that piece of green plastic and some stiff foam... obscene!!! (Otherwise, I like their idea.)

Love those ISOtunes headphones. Stays charged a surprisingly long time. Comfortable. Sound canceling. Very good sound quality. Yup, they’re winners!
I hope you and your family have a great holiday. Miss the build videos but love what your doing. Thank you for a great year of viewing.

"Free" years ago?
ISOtunes Free is the name of their wireless earbuds, which are "free" of wires.
Just ordered a 6” caliper, thank you for the information. The Bridge City Plane, wow, make a glass box for it and put it on the wall, beautiful, “Break Glass When Needed” plaque. Be Safe out there
Just purchased the squares, a set of each size. They should be a great addition to the shop.
I really like that green rubber feather board!
Thank you for sharing, these are all very useful additions to make the projects more consistent. Stay warm, safe, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
I love milescraft especially torx screws instead of square drive
all cool tools, and most of them easy enough to make. The multi-plane looks really smart, and the removable sole could be adapted to moulding plane use, though these things are probably more fuss than just having a slew of dedicated planes.
This segment was absolutely awesome....Thanks again, I love and watch your channel. You do a great job always. Thanks again.

That mini plane is one of the neatest things you featured this year. Merry Christmas!
Really like that resaw jig for the bandsaw but it's a bit much at $85. I wasn't expecting that.
That Bridge City HP6 looks very cool. I think it just made it on my wish list.
Hey, I have that Milescraft pocket hole jig. Agree, it's great for the price.
Same, though mine doesn't have the cool storage case. Mine just rattles around loose in the case it came in.
Got mine like 3 years ago, and it hasn't failed me yet.

Yes we all love cool tools

That GuidePro thing looks amazing, and I don't even have a band saw. I'll have to look to see if they have a variant for table saws, something like a feather board but fancy and more usable. I've used 123 blocks as clamping squares, but if I have to build anything more cabinet-like I'll have to remember to pick them up.
You should convince someone to make a 12" saw blade case. I can't find one for storing miter saw blades in my trailer/on the job site.
More tools that I want more than my money. Keep the Cool Tools coming!
I love the cool tools segments.

I got a set of Isotunes ear buds and they are great.
Thanks James. Love these cool tool videos. Merry Christmas!
Really amazing tools, James! Thanks! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
And merry Christmas!
He wasn't kidding on the plane being a luxury item. I thought it would be a few hundred but the current sales price is over $600.
Great selection for cool tools James. Stay safe and Merry Christmas to you all. Fred.
I could buy a bunch of quality router bits for that much money to do everything that plane can do. To each their own.
Love the cool tools episodes.
I wish the saw blade holder came in a bigger size - for storing at least 12" blades.
Nice assembly of tools. That planer is surprisingly expensive! With the additional kits, you're like $1200!+
unfortunately I already bought a set of isotunes headphones that I wouldn't want to be without EVER AGAIN? on your recommendation, Thank you so much
I really wish those calipers came in a left handed version. I'd buy them immediately, even at full price, if they did.
I have forwarded your video to my wife. I’m sure she’ll find something suitable for Christmas. 😉😁
Hello there Mr. Nubs. I hope all is well with you. I've been missing your content lately
Yet another excellent cool tool video SN! That mini plane really looks terrific and is on my list for sure! Happy Holidays! 👍👍🌲🌲🌲🌲👍👍
Crap I already sent my x-mass list to Santa. I knew I should have waited for cool tools to come out! 😂
Bridge City combination square ?
Life´s good, innit ?!
That plane is really cool, but I sure can't justify the price right now. It's on my list though as my business needs grow for sure.

Shop-Vac and other vacuum makers, let me know when you make one like that.
loving your videos, u as a more expert than normal person, may i ask, why do you use inches over cm?
Because I live in a country that uses that system and speak to an audience where 80% use it too.
10:07 Nice self-report. I thought you were a nice guy too.
What are you talking about?
It's nice that there are alternatives to the pocket hole jigs sold by Kreg. The Kreg kits seem so overpriced for what you get and how they are constructed. It's difficult for some to justify paying Kreg prices for tools that are made almost entirely of plastic. Best bang for your buck, IMO.
I bought the Massca jig too because for the price it ended up cheaper than Kreg and it's made of solid aluminum instead of plastic.
This was a good one.
What clamping squares have better tolerance? 2 thousands is a lot in my shop, if you're building a larger box that adds up by the time you get to the next corner....

I don't know the correct way to do this..help?
That last tool must be expensive. Specially when you don’t say how much. I will stick with my Stanley 45. Thanks.
No, I've had mine for seven years and they are still just fine. Maybe contact them and ask if they can get you some new pads.
Thanks
Cost a little bit?
Bought the iso tunes a couple of months back. not as comfortable as I would have hoped for the price. Granted I do have large ears 😂 Folks with larger ears don't waste your money just buy cheaper 3m they work just as well for half the price.
They have different models that fit differently. Instead of going the "one size fits all" rout with another brand, I would contact ISOtunes and ask their recommendation the next time you are in the market.
You mention insta for more content about the multi plane. Is that content not coming to youtube?
Maybe. I have to be careful about using a $600 plane too much on UA-cam. People get really angry about that sort of thing ;)
What's up with Stumpy Nubs? Haven's seen a video in a while.
Took some time off :)
@@StumpyNubs Fair enough. Thanks for the response. My mind wanders to unfortunate places and I would hate to lose your inspiring content!
@@StumpyNubs I started to get worried!
@@StumpyNubs Cool beans and good for you! I was just missing your videos. :)
@@StumpyNubs Hope you’re doing good man, love your videos!
I SWORE I wouldn't buy any more planes; dammit Nubs!
Isotunes are great, unless it's windy, and they refuse to update their sound isolation algorithm despite complaints.
Transformers and GI Joe. You forgot HeMan
And Thunder Cats, Go-Bots, Voltron...
@@StumpyNubs absolutely
Drinking coffee ....Stumpy
The goal was to screw two pieces of wood together.
@@StumpyNubs Sorry... I'm a little OCD when it comes to woodworking. Drives my boss nuts sometimes but he likes the results 😎
I'm going to have to stop watching Cool Tools James... You cost me too much 🤪🤪🤪
Bwahahahaha! That's a $700 plane 😳
If the price of the plane triggers you, wait until you add up the cost for all the different sole/blade sets that go with it...
You love to say WHAT?!!?!!?
Nicker. It's what the part on the plane is called, and it is also an old, slang term for underwear, which is the joke.
Are you ok?
@10:10 😂
It's an underwear joke.
3 weeks since last video? Hope your ok
Agreed this is unusual
👍
Its been over a month
James can you please do a video on how you came up with the name stumpy nubs? Is there some kind of meaning behind it? People im sure would like to know 👍
Bridge City Tools Works tools have definitely decreased in quality since they moved manufacturing to china. They were known just as much for their quality as for their innovative designs. It is a real shame that another quality American made tool company sold out to china.
Where'd you go stumpy

@@StumpyNubs nice. Hope it was someplace warm
Cool tools... always like your videos...but can't help exclaiming............ $80.00 for that piece of green plastic and some stiff foam... obscene!!! (Otherwise, I like their idea.)
There's quite a bit more too it than that...
@@StumpyNubs There just has to be for that price!!! Thanks for your response...
I buy on average half of the cool tools, the best 👌
