Stam Fine Reviews takes a look the the 1960's feature films based on the Thunderbirds TV series created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson.
Thunderbirds are Go sees International Rescue prevent a sabotage attempt on a manned mission to Mars, and later rescue the crew of the mission. Thunderbird 6 sees an attempt to take over Brain's Skyship One while Jeff Tracy wears Brain down to a nub in looking for a new Thunderbird craft.
Neither is the pinnacle of Thunderbirds, but for many it would have been the first opportunity to see the show in colour, and in widescreen. Well, Techniscope.
And Alan Tracy, well, there's a lot of Alan Tracy. Is Alan your favourite? Then these films are for you!
Both films are Directed by David Lane and are written by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson.

Nice one. Cheers Stam. Thunderbirds has some of the finest acting ever seen on film. They don't make actors like this anymore.
Not since Team America...
Have you seen some of the acting in soap operas talk about wooden they make thunderbirds look like Oscar winners
@@DanielMasmanian Good call. Stargate too gave it a try. If only they still made them like this anymore.
@@tomsenior7405 well, thank you. But now I feel simply amateur, not to have included 'anything, whatsoever, with Keanu Reeves'.
@@DanielMasmanian Quality response. I admire Keanu immensely. He still retains that certain slur against his acting abilities doesn't he. He wears it as a Badge of Honour. You are correct. They do still make actors like this. I bow-down humbly before you.
I saw T6 as a 10 year old at the cinema, and I remember some kids cheering when the airship finally fell to its destruction.
I agree that it was a bit dull, but it was better than the first one.
The laughing puppets had haunted me for decades, but thankfully some therapy sorted me out, until seeing them again just now!
As an engineer myself what Brains goes through at the beginning of TB6 is way more common than you'd think...
Never realized it but basically all of the members of International Rescue we're all named after the Mercury 7 astronauts
Saw this years ago in a Perth cinema that no longer exists...was a good mix of grownups & kids, remember scenes of the puppets smokin' cigars getting laughs as well as a great one of Alan on safari blowing away a lion!
Is that Perth in Oz or the original?
9:10 I just love your cold loathing of Alan Tracy. Even as a child, I thought he sucked. I was always a Virgil-simp
same lol
So not a lot of Scotties around I see.
@@minicle426 Scott is a cool guy. I look forward to having him as a brother-in-law :P
As always a great video Stam Fine 😊👍
Queued up to watch the movie in the rain with my mom when I was 4.
Still think it was a great show with fantastic music
I loved the. first ten minutes. What can I say. 🤷
That Cliff gag was truly artful.
The regular episodes were damn near movie length already. The cinematic releases just added like twenty minutes and that was that. In the end, what we ended up with were more like high budget, extended TV episodes rather than proper cinematic experiences.
I reckon my 3 strongest male role models when growing up were Adric, Tom Paris and Alan Tracy... I think you and i would really get on.
Stam Fine reviews are consistently amusing but that Cliff Richard bit had me in stitches. Great job!
The music for the end credits is totally amazing:-)
Yet another great one from Stam Fine, in top form on the sarcasm front :)
Great stuff as always. Other 60s shows I'd like to see covered include The Avengers, I Spy, and Wild Wild West.
I loved these films. Looking back they milked the 'cool machine' shots. I always felt bad for John stuck in space. I wouldn't worry about the dream sequence too much.
I want to see a Thunderbirds and Puppet Master crossover.
The show was always fun, i actually learned how to program the VCR recording it when it was on at 6 in the morning every saturday. but yeah those movies are incredibly bizarre on the best of days.
Ahh, fellow Aussie
The acting was a little wooden, but otherwise not a bad movie. I remember getting chills watching the zero x launch sequence. Got some useful ideas when playing “Airport”
I get saving the crew when they are going to crash on a town in Florida, but why evacuate the town surely we need less Floridians not more 😃
What wrong with the people in Florida?
Some of those laughing puppets have British molar fillings. Detail!
You had me rolling for most of this. Thank you.
Parker was my favourite character, those laughing puppets are the stuff of nightmares
Thanks for what you do. I've learned a lot about how movies and special effects are made from you (and several other UA-camrs). Because of that, I landed a dream side gig building sets and effects for a low budget film. Thanks for spreading knowledge in an entertaining fashion.
Pleeeeeease do the live action - so bad but what a soundtrack
One question: Wire there so many puns in this video?
It’s certainly a mythery. One that’ll be left hanging I’m afraid
My problem with the first film (apart from the pace) was that it really didn't feel like a Thunderbirds film. We're watching a bunch of jerks we don't know going to Mars, and also International Rescue are there. It felt like the set-up to a spin-off that never came.
The comics actually did the "interplanetary voyage and Thunderbirds are there" story far better. There's one where Thunderbird 3 accidentally gets blasted to Venus, and the other Tracys have to mount a rescue on an alien world full of crazy monsters with equipment that isn't built for the environment.
Great work as always....
Love your work Stam Fine! ❤
Alan is the prototype Paris Hilton
Cliff Richard Jr.'s Shadows are but shadows of the former Shadows...
WHY CAN I ONLY GIVE ONE LIKE?❤❤❤
I hear Alan Tracey is up to take over as the new James Bond… I am so here for it.
Hey Damn (your real first name), love your take on things!
How's that Blakes 7 vid coming along?
I've tried getting an AI to write the script but all I get back is Orac Erotica
@@StamFine Which is all in binary, making it a bit inaccessible to the average viewer. The *idea* of you spending ~15 minutes reading a string of ones and zeroes is funnier than the practical execution of the concept would be.
@@StamFine Well...I mean...that voice, right?
Always enjoy your videos, but the "F*ck off Alan" at the end made me cough tea out of my nose and ears. A total win!
I've never seen Thunderbird 6, but I may have to now.
Alan certainly is the blueband of margarines
Loved the models in this but much preferred captain scarlet
Ahh, thank you. I needed my weekly dose of internet cynicism.
If the extended model shots were greatly trimmed, I reckon the first movie would be reasonably entertaining, even if the plot is a little languid. I've not yet seen the second movie
Second movie is a bit better than the first. "Thunderbirds are Go" feels like two or three different plots that are loosely connected , while "Thunderbird Six" at least has a central plot and clear villains (albeit dumb ones who snatch defeat from the jaws of victory several times) and doesn't feel so disjointed.
What's with the incredible hulk the lonely man theme in this video of thunderbirds
Oh, that biplane (Thunderbird 6) was probably the biggest disappointment of my pop culture youth (may as well call it 'retro culture' since I first caught Thunderbirds in the late 70s - ish). I still love the techno-p*rn teases of the prospective additions to International Rescue. If anybody read the Brit comic 2000AD in the 70s, you'll appreciate the allure of damn big machines (or robots) rolling across the land - and Ro-Busters (a Thunderbirds rip-off with robots instead of puppets ... not that much difference really, hmmpff). Anyway, many thanks for another droll and amusing edutainment thang. One of the very few UA-cam channels I can enjoy on repeat watch.
Love Robusters - can’t beat a bit of ro jaws and Hammerstein !!
I Always remember The joke when i was a kid, Parker, take off my bra. Yes melady, Parker take off my knickers. Yes melady. And dont let me catch you wearing them again!!!!
I have the Thunderbirds are go EP by Cliff (no credit to his son) and the Shadows and there's a real good version of the Thunderbirds theme that, of course, is not in the movie.
It does feel quite strange seeing the Thunderbirds Characters in Windscreen.
You can't let the live action "Thunderbirds" off that lightly. Alan's even more annoying in that film.
it is certainly going to be looked at at some point.
@@StamFineoh I can't wait
A video with no strings attached. Nice.
Friday morning fix.
The Andersons would go on to switch it up with the R-rated 'Team America'
I'm sure that Alan, being the youngest, was intended to be relatable to the kids. His often being treated like a kid would be more empathetic though if he wasn't a hair-trigger annoying brat.
Even as a kid I hated the real shots of the biplane in T6 as it ruptured the stylization of the puppet world. So did the close ups of hands but they were at least very brief and had their own charm. That mixture of puppets and live action of course led to the unforgivable Secret Service which casts a retrospective stench over T6.
I do like the first Thunderbirds movie but not too sure about the second movie because there not much rescuing except for the International Rescue team and what's worst during the film scene Alan said to Captain Foster that Marriages are out of the Question which mean that Alan and Tintin will never be married someday💖💍. I mean come on this so unfair on Alan and Tintin because they deserved each other and so do Scot, John, Virgil, Gordon, Brian and Lady Penelope too when they meet someone and fall in love too. Beside the legacy of International Rescue must continue on to the next generation like the Power Rangers for example.
Footage was cut from TAG that had character and plot development (and Fireflash!) that would’ve been far better than a dream sequence that instantly dates the film.
I know we all dunk on Die Another Day, but I found it solidly entertaining, and wasn't the most ridiculous Bond movie. (mentioning no Moonrakers)
"Alan Tracy Sucks" would make a 'Fine' addition to any bumper sticker collection.
bloody Alan.
were is sliders
Spaghetti westerns using marionettes... it's a billion-dollar idea!
I always thought 'Starfleet' was much better
Tea time.
Harsh, but fair. Still not convinced that moving to live action was any kind of positive for the Andersons. Every one of those projects tended to be surprisingly dull and poorly paced and the highlight was still the model work.
I know what you mean, but the later UFO episodes, after the break during the change in studios, upped the pace and tended to be more interesting once all the basic "UFOs come along and are shot down" plots were exhausted.
I was disappointed the first time I saw "Thunderbirds Are Go" and it hasn't improved on successive viewings. I particularly did not care for Alan's dream sequence, which I took to be an attempt to pad out the film's running time.
Had read about these but sounds like I was spared when they weren't bundled in the Thunderbirds DVD box set!
Also glad to find i wasn't alone in finding Alan a whinging twat!😅
The only thing I disliked more was when they changed voice actors from OG Virgil Tracey!
CGI destroyed movie making but these models are hard to watch as well. unfortunately
it hasn't aged very well and even on a nostalgia trip I couldn't make it to the end.
You mad bro? Haven't aged well? If anything these show us the dizzying heights we should still be trying to hit.
