I love watching your UA-cam videos. I bought a 16 x 20 hotronix auto clam heat press and I ordered the marketing kit. I have all the equipment but I don’t have any customers ☹
I want to do school spirit wear and pop up events. I met with a local school district this week. They told me that the athletic directors, PTO, parents and boosters select their T-shirt decorators. They did not give me any contact information, just told me to leave a flyer at each school. Do you have suggestions on how to become a vendor for local schools? Also how to setup an online store for the schools. I don’t know how to price my T-shirts because I don’t know what they usually pay for their T-shirts right now. How can I be competitive without knowing the prices they pay? Thanks for your help.
Hi Katherine! Great questions, and we'd love to help! You should be able to find those athletic directors, booster clubs or PTO organizations contact information on the school or districts website. Delivering or bringing samples with the flyers can help get them noticed and make a larger impact than just a flyer- The Marketing Kit samples could really help here! Attending booster club or PTA meetings could also help you connect with the decision-makers.
Having a good online presence or social media profile with examples of your work can help if they look your brand up- The digital asset kit with the marketing kit includes a collection of different photos that you can use to post as examples of your capabilities (there's even some videos in there for facebook, instagram or tiktok reels)
We just had a great interview with Gina from KC Swagger ( ua-cam.com/video/_EvolQa0IYU/v-deo.html ) Where she talked about how she got her first orders with schools and how she grew her brand with differentiators like sort & pack that add appeal to customers far beyond price point.
For pricing, be sure you're charging appropriately- It's a slippery slope to start with very small profit margins, as customers may come to expect it again and again, be sure it's worth your time. If you don't know what they're currently paying, its a great idea to run your numbers and then compare to the same product and print location say on Custom Ink's website- It'll likely be the first result if someone just searched "custom tshirt printing" or similar on google- If you can beat their price, you'll likely be in a competitive range locally. You can add value to you and your business by offering design services, free delivery, or setting up webstores and ordering platforms, etc; anything their current printer/supplier is not doing will help you in acquiring new customers.
While doubling cost can help simplify your pricing, calculating your overhead expenses can help get accurate costs which can help you find any wiggle-room in pricing to ensure you're covering yourself. Josh did a great video detailing that here: ua-cam.com/video/IVYi-O8RyU0/v-deo.html

Learning on lower cost blanks is a fantastic idea! We LOVE the Port & Company PC450 Fan Favorite Tee. Not only is it very inexpensive, but made from ring-spun cotton it feels much more premium than basic tees out there.

Hi! Do you guys offer Silicone OR rubberized labels that can be heat pressed on a shirt or hoodie? ie. Like the logo chest/neck labels or silicon/rubber on the 'Fear Of God Essentials' hoodies?
Also same for designs/logos on hats (truckers, 5 panel cotton twill etc....) any silicone, rubber, or any raised material that can be press? How does this work with your gang sheets too? Thanks!
While Transfer Express does not carry any silicone transfers, Both Silicone (www.stahls.com/heat-transfer-vinyl-silicone-dye-block ) and Dimensional Soft Foam ( www.stahls.com/heat-transfer-vinyl-soft-foam ) transfers are available from Stahls.
Do these silicone/foam transfers apply like regular heat transfers from gang sheets on tees, hoodies, including hats and caps? And do they last long-stick on after multiple washes? Thanks!!@@transferexpress
The silicone and foam transfers do apply just like the goof proof heat transfers, however, they are more like a heat transfer vinyl, which requires cutting (if you dont have a vinyl cutter, you can order them ready-to-apply)
They last long, and are independently tested to exceed 50 wash cycles.
