Apparently UA-cam decided to upload this video with some weird green artifact at 0:46. I would re upload the video, but it took me 11 hours last night to upload from this where I am… so its staying like this.
Have a look at the fuel expansion tanks inside either front wheel wells. I had a crack in one of my tanks and the van hesitated when driving. Water had gotten in the tanks from driving and caused the hesitation. Otherwise check fuel for water.
Have you checked the strip the little sweeper rides on in the air flow meter? Those can get dead spots and cause hesitation issues. Does it have the "filter harness" going to the airflow meter connection? Vw installed them to cure highway hiccups. How old is your o2 sensor? Grounds between body and head good?
I’ve checked that all except for that air flow meter strip. That might be the problem. I’ve kind of suspected the air flow meter was to blame for the hesitation, so ill definitely check that next.
You should be able to gently pry the black cover off and inspect the strip inside. I believe the bentley manual has a procedure to check it aswell. Is it a hesitation when you accelerate? Or a sputter/hiccup during steady cruise?
@@gottasplit5707 to me (through your description) it sounds like some sort of enrichment issue. I'd definitely look into the airflow meter and double check the full throttle enrichment switch. Should be specs and procedures in section 24 of the bentley manual. Hope u get this sorted our man!
I’ve put about 8000 miles on the van since I bought it, and I’ve never changed the filter until now. No idea when the last time the previous owner changed it though.

Like the blue older van. Not a fan of the water cooled engine
Painted Van's I like more than patena. Not to much on unpainted VW's
@@rickkent7882 Honestly, I love the simplicity of the air-cooled as well. Nothing beats the Vanagon for comfort though. 😄
star shopping instrumental in the background in combination with VW, what a W channel
very cool upgrade on the brake handle using the vans bike grips! I also have the same shift knob! keep it up.
Idk what it is about your channel but every video I watch inspires me to work on my westy more and spend all my money 😂
Haha, Thanks! Hopefully you get to spend a lot more time driving your Westy than fixing it!

Never would have thought to check that! I'll definitely have to check on that.
Where did you get the recycled shifter knob???
Ron Kausin I got the one in the van on builtbybasil.com . The one in the bus was made by @clutch860 on instagram.

More of a hiccup when under heavy acceleration. It runs fine at constant speeds.

I think you’re right. I’ve been getting mediocre fuel mileage, that’s probably part of the problem.
Thank You!!!
How many miles were on the old filter?

Just wondering, did you ditch the square filter before the fuel pump? Is your gas tank original?
Tank is original, but I put in the GoWesty filter upgrade kit.
