Olympus 30mm f3.5 Macro is a very good lens to start macro photography.

Macro photography is very exciting. It opens up a whole new world. With Olympus OM-D cameras, features like focus bracketing and stacking greatly help macro photography. A great lens to start macro photography is the M.Zuiko 30mm f3.5 Macro lens. It's inexpensive and also works as a normal lens.

Thanks for everything Peter have great holidays and God Bless you and your family
Thank you and you too, have great holidays!
Thanks for the videos, I learned a lot from you.
Thank you!
Dear Peter:
I still use my Old Zuiko 50 / 3.5 from 1978 and it works amazingly sharp with both OM D 5 mk ll and PEN 8. Of course with manual fokusering in both cameras and with OM/MTF adaptor. Macrofotos are quite good and so are the normal 50 mm pictures! Zuiko lenses are the best.

I've used that on OMD cameras too. Nice lens.
I also use that lens on an E-M1. The other lens I have adapted very successfully is an old Canon 300mm f/2.8L USM.
I use it mainly to photograph the flowers of orchids that I grow. As you say, this lens is excellent for its relatively modest price.
I bought this lens too. I was on a bit of a tight budget at the time and I wanted to get a standard lens but was really drawn to macro as well. It was my best option at the time and I've never regretted buying this over the 60mm. I don't shoot bugs so focusing really close won't scare anything away for me.
30mm f3.5 lens is a very good compromise for just that. I think it is a great all around lens. 60mm is mostly for macro and it is also quite nice for portraits.
Another excellent vlog I have yet to use my 30mm f1:3.5 macro but the idea using the focus stack facility sounds like it is worth exploring 😊thank you once again for posting I really enjoyed viewing your travel shots👍🏻
Thanks.
Great video, I have this lens , but have not used it much. Will have to try it a bit more.
A very useful introduction to Olympus' macro lens Peter
i enjoyed watching this video footage. keep going ☺
Thank you.
Peter, I'm interested in the focus stacking. I'm hoping that it will allow the subject to be put all in focus while keeping the background still blurred I'm guessing that using different f stops and focus intervals can achieve that.
Focus stacking is a handy feature.
Thank You Peter! Friday comes my 30mm Macro! 🤗
Great to hear.
This lens is a bargain! I bought it for reproduction work and found myself using it as a "standard" lens for nature photography. Image quality is great, even at 3.5, nothing to complain about.
Have you done a video on the 60mm f2.8 macro? I saw that you used it in the video for macro flashes, but can't seem to find anything else. Your videos have gotten me very excited about taking photos again. Thanks!
Actually I do not have video about the 60mm f2.8 macro. I have the lens but do not use it that much. I very seldom do macro work, but I should make a video about that lens. Ot makes me very happy someone finds inspiration to make images after watching my videos. Thank you.
Very interesting video and clear explanation.
Do you think the image quality will be very good on a 20Mpx (OMD 10 IV)
Yes, absolutely it will fine.
@@ForsgardPeter Thanks a lot
Ciao Peter, first i like your video, clear and nice to see, well done: i ask you a suggestion, i use for my channel a Lumix G7 with a 14-42 Lens ( the standard that arrived with camera), i make videos at 30-35 cm from a lathe spindle that rotate, for safety reason i cannot go more near the spindle: My question Is, with this Olympus Macro i will have more zoom to arrive near the spindle?
Because i hope to shot video more near the lathe spindle!!
Thanks for your help in Advance and a big ciao from Italy!! Alberto 🇮🇹
Your solution might be a longer lens like 60mm F2.8 Macro. That gives you more distance.
@@ForsgardPeter Thanks so much Peter!
Thanks for your videos. Appreciate your perspective, artistic work and craftsmanship. It is wonderful to see photos from Finland, too! (OK, so this time some from Scotland, also.)
As a side note, might I suggest you call your dragon cup a dragon flagon? (Gleaned from an old Danny Kaye film.)

7:59 Verbal typo. 3.8 instead of 3.5.
Are those gloves working on touchscreens? Pls mini review.
Yes they are. Maybe I show how they work on a future video.
You must have been in Scotland on a good day,all that sunlight...love the park shots.
It was surprisingly sunny when I was there. It was october and the whole week was a very good weather.
Looking forward to the flash tutorial. I was thinking of one of these but put it off my list due to the rated output being very low.
Yes the outpit is quite low, but on the other hand with macro the light is quite close and the out put has not bee so big.
Hi Peter, thanks a lot for your videos - really appreciate them! Regarding maceo, I use a Tamron SP 90 2.5 macro - first soviet/leica 🙂 edition on my E-M10 MK II. I also have the Zuiko 12, 17, 45 and 75. I am now thinking of either the 30 macro or the Tough 6. It would be great if you could make a video comparing them - how does this sound to you? Thanks for your attention and again, a lot, for all your work
I have the Tamron SP 90mm macro and really should get it onto the OMD cameras! It's sitting in a box! I have the old Zuiko 50mm f/3.5 macro too secondhand from ages ago and I have used that on my EM10 Mk ii.
Dragon mug very very cool
Hi Peter, just to check how good 30mm micro lens for portrait shoot? I do planning to get 30mm micro... and should I invest 45mm f1.8 for portrait?
If you can get a 45mm f1.8 for a good price then yes. 30mm f3.5 is also quite good for portraits. It all depends what kinda portraits you like to make. For traditional head shots the 45mm is optimal, but for wider view the 30mm is good.
@@ForsgardPeter thanks Peter for the advice.
Hi! Do you think this and the 50mm would be good for product videos?
Yes it think it would.
@@ForsgardPeter thanks!
Maybe a substitute for the 25mm f/1.8 with macro capability too.
I'm currently using em10 markiii and have a couple lenses, looking to buy either a body or a lenses, which would you recommend?
It all depends on what you would like to make images of with the new gear? Is there anything in the camera that holds you back. Most likely a new lens will be a better choice.
@@ForsgardPeter I'm looking to take some landscape picture, want to get the em1markii, but I'm not sure, because it has been a while since it's release. Do you have any prime lens recommendations?
For landscapes the 17mm F1.2 is one choice. Its a bit expensive, but the quality is superb. Primes are great, but consider the 7-14mm f2.8 also. From the M.Zuiko premium lens the 12mm f2.0 and the 17mm f1.8 are also good choices.
To be honest the main thing you gain is weather sealing if you get the E-M1 Mkii. The lenses has to weather sealed also.
I have buy this lens. I have need a Macro with AF for my Lumix.
But the sharp is realy good for this lens
where can I buy a pair of the gloves you have on in this 30mm macro lens video ???
I do not think gloves like this are for sale, unfortunaltely. Similar ones that you can use a touch screen can be found.
Thank you Peter for your super quick answer !!!!! Keep up with your great videos, I have learned a great deal for those !!!!! Jim Payne, Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.
I recently purchased the OMD E-M10 Mark III with 14-42 and 40-150 lenses. I want to add a macro lens to my camera. Thank you for the review; it was most helpful. And I agree with you about the need for an included lens hood.
I'm trying to decide between this and the 60mm 1:2.8. Mainly for nature (bugs, insects, flowers etc).
If you have the budget get the 60mm f2.8. It is a better lens for macro.
Good review, but w/emphasis on non-macro images, for a macro lens, seems a bit tilted. Have the lens and had to get the lens hood - what a bother! Look forward to the macro flash video.
I wanted to show that 30mm f3.5. is a versatile lens and can be used to photograph many things.
I got one on BF sale for 99£(Ιt arrived at my door for €140). I wanted the Panasonic 30mm f/2.8(for the Dual IS on my GX9), but at that price the Oly was a more sensible choice. If I had not seen your review I would have dismissed it. How good is it? Unbelievably good IMHO! I am in love with this lens.
Great to hear! This lens has very good quality price ratio.
Great video
Can you do a comparison video on the 30mm and the 60mm
More of the focus stacking and the Macro shots, please
Regards, Rick
Yes, I actually I could. It has been my plan and try to do it in January.
This is the best value from OM!!
Yes, it is.
Достался такой объектив от дедушки. Сам же фотоаппарат забрала сестра...
Смогу-ли я его присоеденить на мой Canon 650D с переходником?
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say I really don’t see the point of short macro lenses. There’s just not enough working distance as I see it. Even with the 60mm, things can get too close.
I totally agree that a longer macro lens is more useful than a shorter one.
@@ForsgardPeter I think this would work well for stitching extremely high resolution panoramas in vertical format, or maybe stacking landscapes.
Canadian Buyers Beware!
I ordered this lens online from Olympus Canada based on online reviews like Peter's. I expected it to be shipped from Toronto, as other Olympus products I have ordered online from Olympus Canada have been.
But instead it was shipped from the US, specifically from a company called Tech Data in Swedesboro, New Jersey. When FedEx brought the package to my door in Canada the shipping from the US had resulted in an extra $70 in duties, taxes and FedEx processing fees.
I'm not happy about that and I won't be buying anything from Olympus Canada in future unless this situation is rectified.
That does not sound good. Those extra costs should at least be mentioned when buying. I hope they can come to an agreement between US and Canada that products could go without any toll between the countries.
Lens hood... it doesn’t even have a mount for one.
It has 46mm filter size so a lens hood could be attached.
Peter Forsgård the Olympus hoods attach to the outside of the lens, not the filter thread. The 30mm F3.5 Macro does not have the traditional lens hood attachment mechanism.
VERY NET REVIEW.
You over saturate your photos IMHO
Sometimes I tend to do that. It is a matter of taste.
