Julia, when I applied, I was immediately invited to my airline's hub, and made it all the way through to the final face-to-face. There were no video interviews. ✈️My interview began in a packed waiting room where American Airlines planted several employees to ‘watch’ us before going into the interview offices😊 Anyway, after gaining seniority over the years, I flew once a week (out on Friday, back on Sunday) to London which helped avoid the domestic crazy USA holiday travel! Then I switched to Honolulu layovers five times a month when jet lag got to me on European routes. Fabulous long-term career!!!
FA was always meant to be a temporary job and never a career. Kudos to those who stick it out. But after 5 years and the novelty wears off, most FAs have reached their shelf life. Dealing with pax and the public daily in a pressurized tube is not easy. Most get hooked to the flexible schedules and eventually decent money, then their customer service suffers and pax become more of a nuisance. Of course This is generalizing and not everybody is like this and some FAs genuinely enjoy working with people, but in my experience of 15+ years in airlines this is what I’ve seen.
Growing up near Cleveland OH, a good neighbor and friend of the family was a FA for Northwest Airlines (and later Delta). Despite living near Cleveland, she was based out of DTW and typically worked international routes like Amsterdam & Tokyo. When my 6'4" tall father flew with NWA, she was able to get my father upgraded to premium cabin and during my 1999 trip to Europe with NWA & KLM, my younger sister & I flew as unaccompanied minors and she told the respective FAs to treat us well!
Hey there Julia! I just wanted to let you know that you’re videos have been such an inspiration to me to pursue a career within aviation and you have helped me tremendously in giving a realistic perspective of a flight attendant lifestyle, thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos! All the best to you, B
@Jetting Julia I’m glad to share the gratitude with you! This is the first time I’ve ever actually commented on a UA-cam video! It’s pretty cool! Take care! :)
My dream job as a kid was to be a flight attendant, idk why but that’s what I wanted to be when grew up lol. I worked customer service since I was eligible to work at 15/16. And after a few years it left me drained because people can be a lot, they’re rude, entitled and it just wasn’t healthy for me. I had a few bad experiences, so I switched fields and now I work with animals 😊. I do still love to fly and travel and low key wish I was a flight attendant it looks like so much fun besides the customer service part. I just subbed because I’m going to live vicariously through you 😂.
I am a 35 year FA at Delta. I’m 57 and started two weeks after graduating from college. I completely agree with what you said about the job’s “pay” is money and experiences. I have had some fantastic experiences and met amazing people. I was hired by AA but chose Delta because it was a better fit for me. I only wish now that Delta FA would organize and get union representation. It is long overdue and the company is not the same one I was hired by! And yes SENIORITY is everything. I guess it is fair to say I am a “senior Mama” 😂
Do you know how to use the cockpit radio controls to deal with ATC in case of emergency, I mean just to assist pilots for communication reasons , not to assist in piloting/actual flying?
I absolutely love your vlogs , Julia ✈️ Thank you for creating them for us!!! You remind me such a lot of my daughter. who worked as cabin crew for BA. I remember when you got furloughed and how anxious you were, and how I tried to encourage you to explore several alternatives to grow your channel. I can say with several emotions, includiing happiness that I see your growth is so many ways. And when the traveling bug gets more tieresome, may I suggest you contact your airlines training dept, to see if that could be your next chapter. In many many ways I think you would be perfect for it. (You could send this video in as an example on how well you represent your profession and airline. To next time, Gracie says hi to Luna. YFJ
That was very well presented. Well thought out, yet very concise, answers Miss Julia. You are a wonderful representative to your occupation. Your natural smile is the perfect fit for this industry. I truly admire the patience you attendees display to all, especially since Covid. Safe travels!!
Hi Julia, I'm a frequent viewer of your channel. I've been in my current career for almost 30 years and am burnt out and would love a change if the situation is right. I do enjoy aviation and have casually thought of being a flight attendant through the years. Do some see this field as almost a 2nd career for someone in their mid 50s to start this? Thanks!!
What would you say was the biggest change/adjustment you had to make when you went from QX to AA? Currently at a regional but probation is up soon, and I’m trying to decide if I want to stay or move on to a mainline. I honestly just wanted to prove to myself that I could do it, but now I love it!
I’ve looked into it, the schedule isn’t for me! Gone for 14 days home for 9 etc plus you do everything from cooking to cleaning the plane. It’s A LOT of work!
I've worked 15 plus years at different airports on the east coast ramp side with private jets was my favorite job of all time something different everyday. I'd still be doing it if not for a bad back.
Thank you for your helpful video! My daughter is a FA and is only 4 months into it. She’s has an East coast hub and has already been to some amazing Countries. She’s currently in Nigeria and isn’t returning for 80 hrs 😮. I’m a little concerned and wonder if you’ve ever had a trip to Africa and have any tips other than keeping risk levels as low as possible (which is any area). Thanks again!
As always Julia has a good taste of what to talk about and honesty about what one is getting into if you want to get into the cabin crew life. As a warehouse worker you should be ready for realistically anything and we value air crews who take the 24/7/365 assignments seriously. I am gland that Julia actually tries to get things right and do the right job so we are all safe and on time whenever you want to go somewhere.
Hi I have been watching some videos about flight attending and in the first year you are usually reserve always on call. So my question is how do you make. Money or support yourself when you don’t know what your hours are?
Hi Julia! I'm currently 14 and I plan to be a flight attendant when I'm older but I just have two questions. Do you have any coworkers that have a bad attitude towards you or anything like that? I saw that on another video that said that flight attendants might have some jealous or snobby coworkers. Another question is do you get harassed as a flight attendant? That was also mentioned in the other video that I saw and I personally think it's a bit scary. I just wanted to know if those were common things flight attendants go through.
Hi Julia, I think it's great that your a flight attendant;. I see how hard you all work, as I have flown recently for a short vacation. Have a great wonderful day whenever you are, and I look forward to seeing the next video
Spot on Julia Just might want to add in case I missed it. When doing the video interview dress as you would as if you were going on a face to face interview in person. As a former F/A recruiter for AA way back when not much has changed with the exception of group interviews. BTW Julia, I also flew for Horizon back in the mid 90's hated the F28s.
I love Your videos! It makes me feel better about aviation world, especially after Covid period. Just carry on what You´re doing! Greetings from middle of Europe.
Julia I believe that Air Canada requires French and English proficiency in order to be an air stewardess. Do the American carriers require English and Spanish as a requirement? Regards Jennifer and Duncan from Canada
@@emerald3331 I believe you are right that all US carriers would want the gang in the back to speak English, but Julia could not have the answer for ALL carriers based in the USA. (Sorry Jennifer) I would believe that even Spanish is not required. For the "Stump Julia" section, how does she deal with passengers who only speak non-English? or Is a foreign language considered by the scheduling department for flights? The guys driving the plane must speak English (for International flights). "OK to land on runway five." Response: "Que?" (if that's how one spells "What?") LOL
For most US airlines it’s not a requirement to be bilingual! Not the same for many foreign airlines though. We have certain positions within the company where you are considered a “speaker” of a foreign language (pass a test etc) and fly specific routes that require someone to speak that language on them.
@@JettingJulia - A perfect example of this is your AA colleague and fellow vlogger "Jetset with Jess", based out of Miami. She speaks Portuguese fluently, as well as English, so she often vlogs about her trips to Brazil and other countries where her bilingualism is a big plus.
Great tips and thank you so much! I'm in my mid-40s and finally entering this profession - just put in my application at United. I'll see how things pan out from here.
Something I never see these videos answering in is: What can you do to prepare yourself between high school graduation until you turn 21 to apply? Besides working for a regional airline! I am really wondering but I do not wanna work regional so I don't know what to do

Thank you for the video luv watching it. Do you have summer and winter uniforms? How often do companies change the model of uniforms? That’s all my questions.😁

This video has helped me get more insight into what it is like so thank you for this video and sharing your experience. If I get the job I am looking forward to flying abroad because in my 20's I never went on holiday as I kept laying off renewing my passport when I hit my late 20's I got it renewed and didn't go on holiday as I didn't want to go on holiday alone. This would make up for it if I got the job.
Thank you so much for your video. It heped me a lot. Ill have my training starting in January. when you were doing your training, what were the most important things to know?

Ik it's kinda late to ask, but do FA only work in one airline company? And does this company only go from (ex, it's an American airline) America to other countries and back? I'm sorry if the question isn't understandable. I mean if you go from America to France (on an American airline) do you have to go back to USA and after that in the next county or is it possible to go from France to that country without going back in USA?
I just reached the next step which is the video and I’m so nervous to do it but I’m confident I will kill it lol my experience as a Bellman at the Ritz Carlton 6 yrs and 5 yrs in luxury Sales should play a big part. I’m 30 single no pets good looking 😂 I feel good about this..thanks for you video
Thank you. I’m currently working as a locomotive engineer and although it’s a higher paying career I really want to become a flight attendant and travel.
This is really late and this might be a stupid question, but does appearance play a role in becoming a flight attendant? im 17 (f) and was a bit concerned about that.
At my airline we don’t offer part time schedules. But what we can do is drop our trips (if someone else will pick them up) to a minimum amount of hours per month and I always try to drop a few of my less desirable trips so I can be home more! Whereas a few years ago I never dropped lol. I’ve also gotten a pay increase being at 5 year seniority so I don’t try to fly as much :)
Turbulence doesn’t bother me, aspect I don’t like: long time away from family occasionally or waking up at 2 am sometimes. Bad flight - mean passengers, diverging, re routes etc. good flight - calm air, calm people, basically a boring flight is a good flight! Lol
Any time I see flight attendants in a hotel bar, I belly up to the bar. They are always interesting to chat with. I had a 6 year fling with a flight attendant. Was a exercise in logistics to end up in the same city at the same time, but was intense when we did.
Do you know any flight attendants who also work as stage actors in their spare time? I world in retail during the day and I work as an actor in my spare time, but have wanted to peruse a career as a flight attendant since I was about 16. I haven’t tried yet just out of fear that the commitment of being a flight attendant would take me away from the theater world entirely. Do you have any suggestions on this. Thanks. Great video btw!
Flight attendants really have an interesting life! What’s your favorite part of being a flight attendant? Also, if I may ask, have you tried the flight attendant bag by Nomad Lane called the Bento Bag? It's the best travel bag I have used!

Oh my gosh, the best kind of comment. Thank you!! All the best for you as well!
@Jetting Julia I’m glad to share the gratitude with you! This is the first time I’ve ever actually commented on a UA-cam video! It’s pretty cool!
Take care! :)
Good Luck B!
Very good video Julia. All the best to you and your family. Keep smiling and keep loving. Hey! WHY NOT!
She got to see and experience so many wonderful countries on her travels.
Where is your favourite / least favourite destination 🌎
My daughter’s fav was India and her least fav was Japan.
Hugs across the pond 🇬🇧
How cool! Thank you for watching ☺️
I'm gonna ask the most important question: cookies or pretzels
(those Biscoff cookies hit the spot when you're above the clouds)
Hahaha I’m a pretzels kind of girl!
Julia, Watching this video brings me back to when I first started watching you channel several years ago. YFJ
Thank you! ☺️
That was very well presented. Well thought out, yet very concise, answers Miss Julia. You are a wonderful representative to your occupation. Your natural smile is the perfect fit for this industry. I truly admire the patience you attendees display to all, especially since Covid. Safe travels!!
Thank you!!
Well said ! I totally agree !
Thanks!!
Absolutely!! There’s many people who become flight attendants as second careers!
What would you say was the biggest change/adjustment you had to make when you went from QX to AA? Currently at a regional but probation is up soon, and I’m trying to decide if I want to stay or move on to a mainline. I honestly just wanted to prove to myself that I could do it, but now I love it!
I'm surprised she hasn't been scooped up for the private flights. Plenty of millionairs that would pay her bank.
Your scarf very pretty 😍. Great video Julia Hope you & Eric & Luna are doing well 😊
Have a Good Weekend 🥰
Hey, Julia! You are absolutely amazing! Thank you so much for sharing! Lots of love from La Plata, Argentina! 🥰
Hi Julia, I think it's great that your a flight attendant;. I see how hard you all work, as I have flown recently for a short vacation. Have a great wonderful day whenever you are, and I look forward to seeing the next video
Does the company pay for relocation if its needed? Im sorry if this is dumb question.
Hi how are you Banyuwangi Indonesia Romi 🇮🇩💘🕌🙏
Is experienced required to secure a flight attendant position ?
Spot on Julia Just might want to add in case I missed it. When doing the video interview dress as you would as if you were going on a face to face interview in person. As a former F/A recruiter for AA way back when not much has changed with the exception of group interviews. BTW Julia, I also flew for Horizon back in the mid 90's hated the F28s.
True!! Always dress to impress :)
Do they have a height minimum requirement still?
I love Your videos! It makes me feel better about aviation world, especially after Covid period. Just carry on what You´re doing! Greetings from middle of Europe.
Wait wait Luna is Eric’s dog???? Did you ask Luna? I think she may have an option on that.
Julia
I believe that Air Canada requires French and English proficiency in order to be an air stewardess. Do the American carriers require English and Spanish as a requirement?
Regards
Jennifer and Duncan from Canada
I think only English is required.
@@emerald3331 I believe you are right that all US carriers would want the gang in the back to speak English, but Julia could not have the answer for ALL carriers based in the USA. (Sorry Jennifer)
I would believe that even Spanish is not required.
For the "Stump Julia" section, how does she deal with passengers who only speak non-English?
or
Is a foreign language considered by the scheduling department for flights?
The guys driving the plane must speak English (for International flights). "OK to land on runway five."
Response: "Que?" (if that's how one spells "What?") LOL
For most US airlines it’s not a requirement to be bilingual! Not the same for many foreign airlines though. We have certain positions within the company where you are considered a “speaker” of a foreign language (pass a test etc) and fly specific routes that require someone to speak that language on them.
Google translate is a beautiful thing! I use it a lot on flights when I need to communicate with passengers
@@JettingJulia - A perfect example of this is your AA colleague and fellow vlogger "Jetset with Jess", based out of Miami. She speaks Portuguese fluently, as well as English, so she often vlogs about her trips to Brazil and other countries where her bilingualism is a big plus.
Are you interested in Emirates?
Great tips and thank you so much! I'm in my mid-40s and finally entering this profession - just put in my application at United. I'll see how things pan out from here.
Any updates??? How did it go?? I’m about to apply to United, I’m a little scared but I’m deciding to take a leap of faith! 😅
Something I never see these videos answering in is: What can you do to prepare yourself between high school graduation until you turn 21 to apply? Besides working for a regional airline! I am really wondering but I do not wanna work regional so I don't know what to do
Jobs that will help you with great customer service! Retail, waitressing, working as a secretary, etc. build up that experience & leadership skills and use it to your advantage when applying to be a flight attendant :)
So I just apply without any fa training and if they like me, they put me in training?? I’m really confused lol. I just graduated hs and reallllly think about being a fa
Yup just smile, be personable, research the company’s core values, and dress well. That gives u better chance of getting to training. You may need to be 21 though
WHEN I THINK OF FLIGHT ATTENDANTS I THINK OF GLAMOUR AND EXCITEMENT. EVER SINCE WATCHING "AIRPORT" I HAVE BEEN FASCINATED WITH AIRPORTS AND ANYTHING TO DO WITH JETS. YOUR JOB TAKES SO MANY SKILLS TO DO IT.
Julia with another one!!!! Hope your day is great today 💪🏾💪🏾
@Jetting Julia - IIRC, aren't you and your fellow FA vloggers based at DFW (Kat, JoJo & Kacey) all over five years seniority now? And, IIRC, aren't you into a 3-month line/1-month reserve rotation since you've made the 5-year mark? As always, Cheers from GEG!
Thank you for covering tattoos, and giving me the confidence to apply despite having tattoos and alternative dress. To pursue this career will mean bidding farewell to my dyed hair and piercings, which has been my identity for years. Could you ever forsee an airline that is fully inclusive?
Thank you for the video luv watching it. Do you have summer and winter uniforms? How often do companies change the model of uniforms? That’s all my questions.😁
I wear either a long sleeve or short sleeve dress & then we have a winter coat/thicker scarf for when it’s colder! Airlines change uniforms I’d say every 5-10 years ish
Not flight attendant related but where did you get your wall map art?
Amazon!! Here’s a link: amzn.to/34N5r0H
Hi Julia! I just applied for American’s Regional partner, Piedmont Airlines!! Can’t wait to see where this new journey takes me! Thank you for all your great advice!
I really want to be a flight attendant but I still feel like I need more English to apply… working on it for now. Your videos are so inspiring 🤍
I thought this was a very good and informative video! Lots of god questions and lots of great answers! Thank you and have a nice weekend!
Thank you, I hope you have a nice weekend too!
A whole other comment is that you, if you ever decide to stay on the ground, then you can easily work with how to make perfectly edited, fun and interesting videos. So spot on with your facts, also fun facts, plus all the interesting stuff mentioned on different locations, airports, hotels, etc., etc. Sometimes I want to steal your food because it looks yummy! 🤭
Just simply great work! A true professional! 🙋♂👍
I applied to be a Flight Attendant for an airline and looking forward to the next steps and face-to-face interview before being hired.
Did u get the job?
Very pretty FA
Thank you so much for your video. It heped me a lot. Ill have my training starting in January. when you were doing your training, what were the most important things to know?
I’m a flight attendant and what got me through training was building good relationships with my fellow students & my instructors and also just taking it one day at a time. Sleep well, eat well, and don’t forget to stay active
I have two questions: is Covid vaccination mandatory, and what‘s the age limit?
Vaccine depends on the airline & no age limit that I know of!
I've never seen this video in my life and UA-cam is saying I've watched half of this video
Thank you so much for this video!! This is my dream job and I recently decided to actually start looking into it and I’m starting by watching videos like yours 💜
Great vlog as always, Julia. Correct me if i am wrong, but did you mention when you were talking about the money you make, that you don't make a lot when you are just starting out?I always smile from ear to ear when i see a notification you have uploaded a video
Try Emirates, Etihad, or Singapore. Their hiring rules are beyond anything, makes US and European airlines seems a walk in the park.
Thanks for the Video
I have recently turned 25 years old
And i would like to be a flight attendant
But i don't know if it is late for me to start my career now
Please Do you have an advice for me
Thanks in advance
It’s not late at all
It is not late at all
Ik it's kinda late to ask, but do FA only work in one airline company? And does this company only go from (ex, it's an American airline) America to other countries and back? I'm sorry if the question isn't understandable. I mean if you go from America to France (on an American airline) do you have to go back to USA and after that in the next county or is it possible to go from France to that country without going back in USA?
I had applied as a gate agent for Delta awhile ago. Made it to the video interview, it my shyness got the best of me.
Awww! You’ll find your perfect fit when it’s meant to be!
@@JettingJulia thank you! Love your channel so much!
Can you pick your own flights to work so maybe you have a long layover at a nice destination?
Kind of! Lol you can request certain trips/layovers but doesn’t mean you’ll get them. It’s all seniority based
Same in medical fields crazy schedule.
Thank you. I’m currently working as a locomotive engineer and although it’s a higher paying career I really want to become a flight attendant and travel.
This is really late and this might be a stupid question, but does appearance play a role in becoming a flight attendant? im 17 (f) and was a bit concerned about that.
Hi Julia! I’m young and trying to decide what to do with my life. Can you please tell me whether it’s worth it? Should I become one? Any tips?
im a filipina and i wanna work in the us as a flight attendant, do they accept foreign applicants?
Absolutely they do. In fact delta is huge on having a diverse workforce and if you ask me, they need to hire some more pretty flight attendants lol
What do you think about starting this career late in life? Like late 30’s almost 40? Asking for a friend 😂😂
☝️👍👍🏻🇺🇲🙏❤️👑✌️✌️💯💯
Julia thanks for this video. So nice to get out of my own life and watch yours. Thank you!!!
Thank you for watching!!
You mentioned that you were flying less now. Do you work part-time?
At my airline we don’t offer part time schedules. But what we can do is drop our trips (if someone else will pick them up) to a minimum amount of hours per month and I always try to drop a few of my less desirable trips so I can be home more! Whereas a few years ago I never dropped lol. I’ve also gotten a pay increase being at 5 year seniority so I don’t try to fly as much :)
@@JettingJulia Thanks for your reply! (:
I love your energy. Thanks!
Do you intend to stay on air crew long term, or do you want to eventually move up to ground management or instructor roles?
Happy Friday, Julia!
Happy Friday!
Does turbulence bother you at all?
Are there aspects of being a flight attendant that you don't like?
What makes a good flight vs. bad flight?
Turbulence doesn’t bother me, aspect I don’t like: long time away from family occasionally or waking up at 2 am sometimes. Bad flight - mean passengers, diverging, re routes etc. good flight - calm air, calm people, basically a boring flight is a good flight! Lol
I wonder which is harder, being a flight attendant or a truck driver? Both keep you away from home a lot.
Traveling for free and meeting incredible crewmembers and passengers who become lifelong friends
Ive been on the ramp for ua awhile now and i wanted to become one im just nervous need about doin it should i switch im makeing 4500 a month is pay better?
How many times a year do applications open? I'm looking at United but only see for San Francisco, not LA - it is once a year?
What kind of customer service jobs would look good on a flight attendant application?
hello it is first time watching of your video. I am Japanese working as a flight attendant and i really like your video since you speak calmly! it engaged me to watch it till the end!
Hi Julia can male flight attendants have long hair? #i love watching your video it inspires me to become a flight attendant it’s my dream job.
Have ever gotten any bugs from the hotels? What was the best state/country you traveled to?
