I love Ricky Gervais, but Frankie is right. I watched After Life, it was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. Masterfully written and acted by Gervais. But that's what he is, an actor/writer/director, not a stand up comedian, his stand up shows are average at best.
I doubt is Gervais gives a monkeys about what Boyle thinks or says - it’s just a joke ffs and both guys are pro freedom of speech so wtf? - be great to see them do a face-off show - personally I think Gervais is a much better comedian but it’s personal taste at the end of the day
"average" is very generous for Ricky Gervais stand up. He is atrocious. He must have something in his contract that they have to fund his stand up venture if they want him to work on a TV show.

that he's seemed to have picked up in recent years has got me baffled. I thought that After Life was massively over-rated and he's certainly no stand-up. And what's with all this trans-bashing bollocks? Does he really need to do that?
@@markcrowe991 what does “stand-up” actually mean? If it means a comedian doing a live rather than recorded show then surely whether they are good or not ultimately comes down to how many people want to go to see them doesn’t it? Otherwise it is just personal opinion.

If they had time to prep Ricky may win as he is an excellent writer, in an off the cuff roast Frankie would murder him. I have loved them both and gone off both (Ricky more) but Frankie's point is valid, Ricky is a great writer but not really a natural stand-up.

He has written some great shows, obviously The Office, but as a stand up in the early days he was OK but now he is terrible and unbelievably obvious, really just as cheap opportunity to engage in culture wars, his last show imho was dire. To be fair think he has said himself he is not a natural stand up and he is still way better than some of the big names. Each to there own I guess but give me Frankie on stage any day, and my favourite who I know is marmite in Stewart Lee.
Ricky Gervais is not funny at all
This is a bit boring to be honest. Went off Boyle when he dedicated almost an entire episode of his TV show to smear Corbyn as an antisemite. This was the same week when dozens of Palestinians were murdered in the West Bank, which was barely mentioned. To round it all off, David Baddiel was brought on and made the joke that 'Corbyn says there's no room for antisemitism in the labour party-he s right, because it s full'. All this in spite of the fact that Corbyn sped up the complaints process, that there were far fewer complaints than under Milliband, and that racism in other parties, e g the tory party, was far higher. Dozens of Jewish labour members have now been expelled for antisemitism, which is ridiculous.
