The Vermont Long Trail - Return to the Appalachian Trail p3

The final video from the Vermont Long Trail. A bittersweet ending to our trip. It's been wonderful to come out here and attempt a thru hike through the green mountains. To hike over the highest point in Vermont, and get to experience the east coast by foot again. Surely it won't be long until I return once more. Maybe next time for the Adirondacks, another trip along the Appalachian Trail, the White Mountains of New Hampshire. There's really a lot to be done in the area.
We started this trip with an accelerated pace in mind, not quite fastpacking, and not setting any records, but certainly faster than most would hike this trail. Our first day we found ourselves hiking through the rain, Lotus was having knee pain, and overall in the end we figured we would have more fun if we slowed down to enjoy the trail at a different pace. We knew we may not finish the hike, but we also knew that regardless, it was the right decision to make.
The Long Trail shares 100 miles with the Appalachian Trail, and since we have both thru hiked the AT in the past we figured that so long as we can get to where these two hikes meet, we would have seen it all. It still wouldn't be a thru hike in the truest of sense, but it was something that we both could agree was a great compromise.
I hope our hike can be a lesson of sorts. Not everything can go as planned, hiking as a couple, with a partner, on in a group can be difficult. The trip and experience is worth it, and making compromises can mean everyone will have more fun.
We could have, and likely should have budgeted more time to do this trail together. Still I think we both had an amazing adventure on the Long Trail.
