    A bagged Airfix Kit was only 19p when I was a child, whereas a bagged Frog kit was 11p. I nearly wet myself when our local bargain shop up town was selling two Frog kits for just 10p. My spend was 20p a week back then. I felt like a millionaire. Oh the pleasures of childhood.

    Nice vintage kit And great review. One thing should be noted about schemes. Back in the day the russian Aircraft were depicted with wrong colors in literature,models and museum aircraft. The number 71 should have black and AMT-4 (green) for upper surfaces and AMT-7 (blue) for underside. Number 43 should be AMT-11 (grey) and AMT-12 (dark grey) upper surfaces and again blue for underside.
    Hope you have nice day And great time modelling.

    Originally these were mentioned as a FROG kits that didn't make it to be issued since Frog folded in 1977. I used to get them bagged in the 80's, then under Red Star banner before being marketed by Emhar. Besides this one there should be MiG-3, Yak-3, and Anatra Anasal. Their MiG-3 was much better offering than Cap du Croix kit, later issued by Italeri and Encore. If it comes to lack of detail on the wings and fuselage, real thing beside acces panel an slats in late models, skinning was adhesive bonded plywood so no panel lines. Russians called "Laminated, Lacquered Coffin".

      The moulds were made by Frog before they folded. It was part of a deal with The USSR that led to Novo kits, although for some reason they didn't go to Russia at the time.

    • @mc2594
      @mc2594 5 місяців тому

      The Frog book doesn't quite say why but the 4 moulds were kept until Novo folded, their receivers sold them to a guy called Jim Chapman (Red Star) who I think wanted to continue an arrangement with Russia similar to the one Novo had, they may have held them back as they had no instructions, decals or artwork and just didn't get time to make them practical or didn't get payed to do that, they were commissioned by the Russian side and even had 'Made in USSR' on them so were intended to be sent initially, there are some alterations between the 500 blue run and the Red Star kits apparently so that may have had some bearing also.

    I looked at that, and immediately thought of the old FROG rebags/reboxes by Novo. I bought quite a lot of them, and had a lot of fun. Woolworths used to sell them for about 12p each. The tiny little Bleriot XI was a particular favourite of mine.
    Basic kits, but if you were careful, you'd get something nice at the end of it.
    I think EMHAR are like Amerang, in that they repack, and market other peoples' model kits. I have a lot of their 1/76 WW1 figures and tanks, which are really nice, especially the artillery pieces.

      @@ModelMinutes Zvezda now are some of the finest kits around, with sharp mouldings, good fit, interesting subjects, etc. However, they do have some 'Golden Age' kits if you hunt around. Look for very low prices, and they're typical 1960s and 1970s kits, sans interior detail, wheelwell detail. etc However cheap for someone not so concerned, and very basic, so a real afternoon build.

    I like simple, basic kits that have solid parts that aren't so fine they snap in half just by looking at them.. and this kit falls into that category. Can't complain about the price either and the decals looks decent enough. The only thing that would cause me some bother is the lack of clearly visible canopy frames, especially as I rarely mask canopies, if at all. With my limited knowledge of old FROG kits, I'd say your review was perfectly fair and to the point.. :) Very good.. I may have to invest in this kit, it has been added to my list of possible future purchases... :)

    • @ModelMinutes

      Hi Chris - I'm pretty sure Emhar is a British company - going by the address on the box and paperwork. However it has a slight feel of being a British Mistercraft in the sense that they only have other mouldings which were previously made by another company. I could be wrong of course but I don't think many toolings are natively their own

    • @andrewgrave
      @andrewgrave 5 місяців тому +1

      Emhar was an English value brand acquired by Bachmann in 2016. Kits were originally made in England but moved to China in about 1990. The Welwyn address on your box indicates it was made before the Bachmann takeover.
