So cool. Have kept these for years and every time you turn around there's a new species found. Crazy how nature works. Hard to believe they are everywhere there.
Thanx for tour! Beautiful fish room. Have you any info. on the rainbow splendida. Has a longer name, sorry. Known, I think, as the Eastern Rainbow. I love bosemani rainbow. I've seen these labeled at my local Petco.
Schoenherr & Diamantopoulos Chemistry Videos From what I've seen based on other rainbow fish keepers, almost all of the breeds do well in 70-78° degree water at the most. Never over 80° I'm not sure on the ph, hopefully this helps.
Could someone please help me? I have some beautiful threadfins, but I have noticed that their dorsal fins are different. Have of them have a round-topped dorsal while the rest have a scalloped edge like a sailfish. Does this indicate different populations/origins? I want to bread them but don't want to mix them up.
+1deaver I don't remember the substrate off the top of my head, but next time I talk to him I'll ask. For the lights he is using Power compacts, but is having a build my LED light built for that tank very soon.
+23tonylawrence Well bright coloring should be happening now with proper diet/good water conditions. The hump back can take a couple years to get that size. Lots of frozen foods help develop color and body size.
+kavishmj When I asked him about it. He said he was trying different colors and things to see if anything affected the spawning. It didn't and turned out pretty much anything worked all the same.
It may be heresy to say, but to my mind only about 10% of Rainbows are attractive. Most seem to be dull silver fish. My favorite is the Threadfin Rainbow, which I've only encountered once. They put on an amazing show when courting.
Great to see his room. Although I must say you got like 50%or more of those names wrong. The one time you did question what was on the tank, "Axelrodi's", they were in fact genuine Chilatherina Axelrodi. Not what I'm assuming you were thinking which is Melanotaenia Herbertaxelrodi..
wish you would of filmed this more professionally ..maybe did some research 1st this way you could explain better what your filming .could have been a amazing video and could of taught a lot of people new to the hobby about rainbows
Sean O'Connell In your opinion. He successfully keeps, breeds and distributes many rainbows that no one else has, he collects them himself and goes out of his way to provide pure strains to the hobby. He even had a rainbow named after him this last month. On top of that has found many new species he has collected in the wild. Even has the brackish/saltwater rainbow species he is keeping to propagate. It's easy to criticize how someone does something. Everyone can always say they need bigger. 10,000 gallon aquarium? Not big enough compared to wild.. etc.
+Sean O'Connell Agree with you. Breeding has nothing to do with taking care of something breeding is a survival thing for fish and other animals. What i do think is funny to see most kept with lots of plants while in nature some don't have any plants due to fast flowing river systems etc. of course there some on the banks and with there roots in the water. Not talking shit about him could careless about who he is. Happy to hear he does good work in the USA

Cory, You have shown a few rainbow fish tanks and I always see the nicest Blue and white fish. What are they called
his plants are as good as the fish well done
Cory, what was the size of that display tank?
nice!
cory, do u remember what substrate Gary had in that s sh ow tank, what lights?
+1deaver I don't remember the substrate off the top of my head, but next time I talk to him I'll ask. For the lights he is using Power compacts, but is having a build my LED light built for that tank very soon.
+Aquarium Co-Op saw in another video that he collects it locally.
how long will it take before the boesmani rainbowfish being to get the humpback and bright colors. I have had mine a little over a year now.
+23tonylawrence Well bright coloring should be happening now with proper diet/good water conditions. The hump back can take a couple years to get that size. Lots of frozen foods help develop color and body size.
From where I cany buy Gary's rainbow fish? Can someone help me with a link, please?
I noticed on the spawning mops he has some red yarn mixed in with the black. Is there a reason for this?
+kavishmj When I asked him about it. He said he was trying different colors and things to see if anything affected the spawning. It didn't and turned out pretty much anything worked all the same.
Cory is it okay to keep 2 male & 2 female boesemani? Or 3 male 2 female? What is the best ratio? Thanks
Typically it’s best to have 50/50 ratio or more females
Awesome thanks for the reply, I will try 2 m and 2 F for now to avoid aggression and see how it goes.
"This is a neat fish..." * shows .25 sec of fish before abruptly panning to next tank * Slow down, dude!
Does Gary have a website of his own?
Damn so many types, I want to get some but there is so many to choose from, I may never get any.
can i mix 4 rainbowfish and 8 cardinal or emperor tetra?
yes
u have a big treasure :">
