The saddest and most evocative song of love lost that has ever been written and performed. Andy Irvine is the undisputed master of melancholy songcraft.

Loved their 'Planxty" LP from the mid-70s...this song especially, and The 3 Yellow Gipsies.

I saw Andy, Donal, Liam and Paddy Glackin do this a couple of days ago in Belfast. It melted my heart....but in a good way.

I will love this song forever but it always reminds me of my old teacher Brendan Mulcaire. Please excuse my spelling of his surname but he was the greatest teacher He was always mentioning Co. Clare. I love you Brendan. Eileen aka Skallywag!!! xxxxxx

Brendan Mulkere lived about 5 mins from me up until about a year ago. I used to visit him every week... Great man.

catnips . arrows... haven't heard his version but if I did i bet you I'd wished I hadn't....and utterly depressing boring and totally dull musician. In ten years time people will be asking.....why....and more importantly.....how was it allowed?
