    Freeze dried peach slices dipped in white chocolate would be good too!

      Especially if you could find a way to add raspberries in the white chocolate. Freeze dried peach Melbas

    I tried to dip apple slices to freeze dry and it was a bust. I love the way you prepared yours and I will have to try this method because it was what I was looking for. I was worried when you dipped the apples in the warm caramel that the apples would reconstitute but I’m impressed by the still crispness of your fruit cocktail dipped in chocolate

      A very long time ago I dipped apple in real caramel. Unfortunately they did go soft after some time. I am hoping to get much better results from the melted wafers this time. As you say the fruit cocktail did remain crisp if not bland. The trick is to completely cover all surfaces to seal the apple from the air

    With kids and grandkids we can't keep freeze dried apples at our house to begin with, I'm afraid they wouldn't even make it into the mylar bags if I did this🤣

    Maybe add a little sprinkle of flaky sea salt to the Hobby Lobby ones before the coating dries? Might cut the sweetness a little. They all look great!

    Wont the warm caramel make the apple soft?

    That’s what I thought.
    I did some caramel apples, and I put the squeeze ice cream type caramel on mine, and then freeze dried mine.

    After you dip them in the caramel, are you just leaving them on counter to harden, FD'ing them again, or putting in freezer? Thanks!

    • @JohnInBibs
      @JohnInBibs  6 місяців тому

      left on counter to harden then packed in a ziplock bag. My next 3 videos i follow up on how well they kept in the ziplock bag only. No O2 and No desiccant. They stayed crunchy for at least 30 days that way. check out my other videos after this one to see (it is near the end of each video)

    Thank you John for sharing all your ideas and recipes. Have you tried making the caramel apples with caramel syrup? The kind of stuff used on ice cream.

    • @JohnInBibs
      @JohnInBibs  7 місяців тому

      yes, they went soft pretty quickly. I have seen other fd with a small squirt of the sauce with some luck.

    What is the ratio of water to lemon juice to keep the apples from turning??

    • @JohnInBibs
      @JohnInBibs  7 місяців тому +1

      I didn't really measure I just filled the bowl with water and added the juice, maybe about a half cup?

    Wouldn't the moisture from the melted Carmel add some moisture to the aple?

    • @JohnInBibs
      @JohnInBibs  7 місяців тому

      No, if I used real caramels then yes because caramel has moisture. Caramel melts have no moisture. In fact if you add as much as a drop to the melts it will ruin the melts and seize the chocolate.

    Thanks, John! I have some apple cubes that I did a while back. The apples themselves really lacked in flavor. This may be a way to salvage them!

    I gave these out for Easter treats today. I made these apples, celery, cantaloupe just like you did with the same flavor candy melts then I also made freeze dried strawberries cut in half lengthwise dipped in cheesecake flavor and orange juice discs made in molds dipped in dark chocolate, sweet and tangy that one is. All of them delicious. Thank you for your ideas and videos. Everyone loved all of them. Happy Easter

    will the caramel with add some moisture into the apples.I had thought of doing that but was afraid it would add moisture into them and I wouldn't catch it until we went to eat them. I've seen a video or two where they have drizzle caramel over the apples and then freezed dried them. those do look delicious and when I have the time I think I will try them. but sadly michaels and hobby lobby are about an hour and ahalf or two hours from where I live so I guess I will just have to scout the stores or order some. thanks for the video.

    Do you think that you could do the caramel before you freeze stride the apples or would it run completely off of the apples say if you freeze the apples and then added the caramel and then added them to the freeze dryer
