Outright one of the greatest films ever made. The new Legion TV show uses a lot of really similar film making techniques to visually create the mind of a schizophrenic character and its just as genius.

I love this movie so much, it simultaneously confronts you with the worst and best of love. SPOILERS i guess
And despite it taking a place after a break-up, the end has an almost overly sweet and romantic ending with them knowingly falling for each other again, aware of the probable outcome.

While other movies are more fun or engaging, as an art form I think Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind is the greatest film. I like The Prestige a lot, and adore Fight Club or The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. But while those are great, a good deal of the experience would be retained if they simply remained books. But Eternal Sunshine cannot be taken out of film and be the same experience. Not one scene.

To this day, I still wonder how they portrayed all those amazing transitions and collapses (especially the library to his house transition and the house near the beach collapsing).

its simply the perfection in the imperfection of how it suggests love is. ok its not that simple but my fave movie.

In my first pass at watching this movie, I had a lot of problems with it, and I later came to realize why. Turns out that I had conveniently missed all the scenes that concretely explain what Joel is doing, which I now realize is the crux of the movie. All this to say that it is somewhat interesting when we don't pay attention to what is in front of us the results we get.
