Sorry if this has been requested before but I'd love to see a Sound Effect/Designer Artists React special. Maybe with a guest who works on sound design in films who can put a spotlight on the process, provide insights, give us their top sound effects and generally tell us how sound and visual effects work together on a scene. There are so many amazing sounds in cinema that deserve some attention. To name my favourites: - The pod race in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999) - The alien appears scene in Alien (1979) - The beach scene in Saving Private Ryan (1998) - The bombing raid in Unbroken (2014) - The Balrog (specifically its roar. It's like a hot furnace) in LOTR (2001) Love your content guys!
Oh man! Birdman! HELL YES! We studied this film in film school because of how crazy it was made. The cuts are the FINEST, CLEANEST cuts I have ever seen. So incredible to watch.
Very telling that the “simple” stitches at 13:54 impress the artists the most. Awesome stuff. And fully in service of the story and enabling the director to achieve what he was looking for.
@@meekofortin14 Look at the top of the screen. They expertly stitched from one shot to another right in the middle. As the guest was explaining, they would sometimes switch out certain parts of the actor's performance with a stitch, just picking and choosing which moments they liked of each take. They used her passing the frame as almost a wipe cut.
Usually actors play multiple shots of same scene. And in post they can use parts of each but with cuts noticeable by different angles. In these cases they did that but "stitched" in a way that is seems it's just one take from same camera
Yea still one of my favourites, the way they capture dream like state, and the realism of the real word, so you can feel the distinction without exposition. Also Joel is just fantastically acted the whole cast did so well to capture a very realistic vibe of their characters, which makes the dreams and music all the more surreal.
Eternal Sunshine and Birdman are both so good. If you haven't seen Birdman it's a great watch and an experience you won't get from most other films. The cinematography is great, the writing is funny, it has this manic energy that's captivating, and it's such a unique experience.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is my favorite film. I've seen it several times. But this is the first time I realized that when that fence disappears, it's in the middle of the street, and the characters are in a new location.
There’s a 25th anniversary edition DVD of Star Trek: The Motion Picture that Paramount gave to a special effects studio to RESTORE the effects they had planned for originally during production, but ran out of money to shoot. It got so well that I had a hard time distinguishing where the restored effects began and ended. We’ve all seen effects added to a story that didn’t need it, but I’d never seen effects that were originally planned restored to the story. I think you guys works love it.
This was the most mind boggling episode in a long time, I can't believe how damn hard so many of these shots would have been to do. And so glad to see you guys react to Birdman! One of the best movies of all time imo.
I would love to see you all talk about the effects in Brazil (1985)! I enjoy seeing old school effects and hearing you talk about how you might do it today.
Flight of the Navigator from 1986 was one of the first movies to feature CGI chrome objects, image based lighting and morphing. Also, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory looks like CGI with the squirrel attack but they really trained squirrels to attack a stuntwoman.
I watched The Borrowers (1997) with my kids last night and was impressed by a lot of the shots, especially the one where the four inch tall Borrower girl walks down a dark corridor with a birthday candle for a torch - and the flame is the correct scale!
I watched James and the giant peach the other day and thought there was some great effects in that, especially the rhino storm at the start and end of the movie. Also the live action version of the little prince had shots that I thought were impressive for their time where he’s walking around a tiny planet, also a sequence with a motion controlled plane prop at the very start
I think y'all would enjoy reviewing a movie called Velocipastor. It's a brilliant deconstruction of bad movie tropes and has some truly jaw dropping vfx. I love your show btw, thank you for doing what you do.
It reminded me of Kung Fury, just legendary vfx in a indie flick It could have easily been an intentionally bad movie like sharknado which are boring and obnoxious, good bad movies have to be done earnestly as RLM have explained many times haha
That moment where you're watching a new UA-cam video, then immediately switch over when you see the new Corridor Crew react video...😁 that's just how much I love you guys.
Recommendation: For a classic VFX shot, have a look at Danny Kaye's ON THE DOUBLE. In the beginning, it looks like a simple split screen, but one character breaks the split and it's not immediately noticeable how it was done. It's pretty cool!
I think that a really good film to react to is everything everywhere all at once because it has some really interesting VFX but also a surprising amount of stunning practical effects.
I love all of these episodes so much! The Eternal Sunshine segment made me realize that I’d love to see a 2-team competition video where you both have to film the same scene, but one team does it with cg effects and the other team has to try to do it practically. Or maybe a vfx artists react where your people try to trick you with the effects they use on short clips that they each make? Either way, keep up the great stuff!
I’d point you in the direction of our collaboration video with Adam Savage where competed to see who could do a better blood spatter effect. “Slicing Adam Savage’s Nose”
I feel like when it comes to VFX, if you make it look easy to the average viewer, you're doing it right... but when those who know what could be done and/or even guess it wrong and learn something from it, all parties benefit. I love this industry!
Hey guys, I love this series so much and appreciate all the work you've done. I learned so much about filmmaking and VFX and knowing how this works and the clever tricks that are used made me love movies as a whole so much more. As a suggestion: There is an old german movie "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" from 1943 (insane, I know!). I watched this movie as a kid and for nostalgia rewatched it recently. I was so surprised to see how well the special effects in this hold up, especially considering it's age. I doubt that there are crazy mind-bending effects in it, but i liked how the effects of an 80 year old movie hold up better than some modern ones.
I think you guys might enjoy picking apart some of the effects in the ghost rider films! Particularly the scene in the second movie of his jacket bubbling
Congrats! Im not a vfxs, but a movie vfxs lover , I have learned a lot here, realize all the stuff a vfxs should know about physics and light. Absolutely love this !!
I've said it before, but I'll say it again; i think it would be really great if you guys checked out some of the old practical and optical effects from the old toho Godzilla movies
My suggestion is not a movie, so I know this could be a challenge. But the official video clip for Up and Up by Cold Play is amazing in terms of rotoscoping, compositing, and color grading... Great episode as always, thank you for this amazing content.
You put Steven Seagal into John Wick. You put Adam West into the new batman film. You put Tom Holland into the spiderverse. You put back superman's mustache. Please please please put Ugly Sonic into the Sonic films. :D
The cinematographer that set up the go pros on the rig while capturing those flying shots should have got a raise for the amount of time and work they saved in the future. Not even mentioning how much better the shot turned out by having all that authentic scene information to use.
I love how that Rings of Power shot is so normal and uninteresting if you don't know about VFX, but if you're into it, it's mindblowing. Just like the Steppenwolf puddle shot or the Avatar hand shot
There's some stuff in Eragon about the dragon that I'd be curious to hear you talk about. Pretty rough movie, but I remember a story where they spent all their budget on the dragon and I remember it looking pretty good. (just anything with dragons I'm down for.) Also saw a great making of Dragonslayer 1981 recently and figured you guys would have a lot of fun talking about that.
I watched Dragonheart recently, which is ...fine... but to have a nearly fully CGI main character in 1996 was a big achievement. It's not perfect obviously, but it's a talking, expressive, dynamic dragon voiced by Sean Connery. I'd be interested in hearing about that one too.
As a recommendation: the directors of the Matrix movies made Jupiter Ascending, which isn't their best, but its VFX and art design is very cool! Would love to see a breakdown:) Also, this was an awesome episode, I'm very glad that you've revisited this mad perspective shot magic from Rings of Power, thank you for that!
i’ve been following this channel for years and i eventually want to work for corridor with my musical abilities but i gotta say.. Niko awkward laughing is just something i never fail to notice.
For the next Bollywood/Tollywood episode I'd love to see an interview with V. Srinivas Mohan, VFX supervisor on some films you've covered (RRR, Bahubali, Enthiran, Eega). He'd have some insight on how large scale effects have been pulled off over the years with the kind of budgets Indian filmmakers work with and their larger than life ambitions. Pete Draper from Makuta VFX could also be great for the same, and both of them have acknowledged your videos before!
With star wars day recently, I would love for you guys to look at star wars the clone wars and get your insights and thoughts on that series and some of the current star wars animations.
Oh My Renders!! Thats amazing work in Birdman. Having been a VFX Editor for a studio that mainly did Compositing, I got to watch the progress of them doing a performance stitch from different points in the same take and melding them together in the movie Dead for a Dollar.
I'm surprised they didn't notice all of the obvious feathering around the Stranger's cloak. Even when watching it for the first time, it was totally jarring and noticeable to me.
Interesting thing about fire: With HDR, this all goes out the window. My daughter took a photo of a car fire the other morning with her iPhone, and the fire was fluorescent orange and detailed with a yellow core. The truck was white, and it was full daylight. Some of that detail was very likely the built-in Apple AI processing (not a big fan of that because it invents detail, like painting grass over pavement in my past experience), but much was presumably HDR. Nothing was over-exposed. It looked unreal because of how orange the flame was. Tons of thick oily smoke behind it as well. In a second photo she took of that, the clouds in the sky were completely blown out, but the fire was still orange.
With all the cool stuff going into Rings of Power from the artists and tech, it still manages to look like something a fan shot in their garden. All the money sunk into that show is a travesty.
Don't let the nice looking Rings scenes fool you. This show was garbage. Awful. Waste of existence. You will regret every minute your eyes watch it. It, was, such, a, disappointment. So, bad. Thanks for reading. Xoxoxo.
i would be really interested to see an episode where y’all go over your favorite movies/ films and why, not even necessarily a vfx react but like what movies inspire y’all other than the big ones like avatar
Rings of power.. was filmed in 2002.. right...oh wait it was 20 years later and the acting, writing, visualeffects, actuallyeverything about. Is a 2 billion dollar scam... from the actors to show runners.. its very sad that you guys are acting like you don't know how they did the shitty visual effects on the show... you guys are better than that... it will go down as the biggest flop of all time ... and to top it off... the agenda that they are trying to push and the narrative.....is 100% evil... Hollywood and pop culture will not exist if this agenda continues... because the people they are pandering to don't have money or go out to movies or spend money on anything but hair dye..lol... . I really hope 1 or 2 of the people you work with over there understand what I have just laid out in this message....i never comment on videos or anything for that mater.. but I am a single father.. I know deep down in my heart our children are the target.. you catch my drift... you have a huge channel and I appreciate whaT you do... but being so close to the main vain of Hollywood... and the people you are connected too, believe it or not each one of you are in the perfect position to change the way we approach changing the narrative..... 😢... sorry for the novel... but the time is now things must change
I would love to see an episode featuring Korean cinema. Like the sky replacement from Parasite, the robot from space sweepers, the zombies in Train to Busan.
I'm sure you've done Jason And The Argonauts before but I've just been watching it again, and its still better sfx than a lot of films today. Can we give it some more love, please? It's a ridiculous feat of creativity and ingenuity
I would love to see a TV show that was on the air for a long time and how the effects changed, like Supernatural, or Stargate where the technology of the effects changed over the 15 years it was on TV
I’d love a sports - themed episode. So much goofy CGI used for baseballs especially, but when you contrast it against well done shots it sticks out that much more.
Love this, been a subscriber for a while and have watched religiously for some time but really would love to see a series dedicated to Music Videos and behind-the-scenes. Especially as some of the great directors of today cut their teeth starting out on music vids. Keep up the good work guys.
Niko just flopping over and saying “my creativity is on vacation, please just subscribe” reminds of that cat that was in a box on top of a rocking stool that tipped over, and the cat just stayed in the box on the floor as though nothing happened. It gave up for a minute. That’s entirely fine. We all gotta do that from time to time.
The opening shot of the movie "21" is a shot that still drives me crazy. It was 2008, way before drones were widely used, but it starts with a helicopter shot, and moves to a close up of Jim Sturgess riding his bike on a bridge. If it's VFX, it fooled me. It has all the hallmarks of a practical shot, like even a slight camera shake like most other movies of the time that do similar shots with a helicopter. I can't figure out how they would have done it without a modern drone. It's been driving me crazy for 15 years!
A cool alternative would be a look into how live sports overlays and VFX works, like the overlays on a football field, or replacing advertisements on the boards of a hockey game for the live broadcast.
I used to work in the same building as Rodeo FX, it's neat to see the sort of things they were working on in their office while I toiled away on insurance software :)
I don't know if you checked this one already, but in Northern Exposure (1990-1995) S2E8 there is a scene where the main character has an identical twin and there is a moment that I considered surprisingly flawless in which they touch and cross one behind the other. There are also the typical "not see one of them's face" shots, but the one at 7:30 or so is quite impressive. Greetings from Bilbao guys! You are the best!
IDK if hes been on before (im a filthy casual, occasional viewer) but I dig this guy. Probably just his buttery smooth voice, but yeah great breakdown of the techniques involved. Definitely invite Ara Khanikian back if you can!
You need to take a look at the stunts and special effects in the low budget action movie, Free Fire. It's basically a giant shoot out in a warehouse between two gangs set in the 70s. They have practical effects of one guy getting set on fire that looks incredible and another guy having his face run over by a van. In the behind the scenes they show how they rigged up the van to run over the actors face. When they went to shoot no one trusted the rig to work without hurting the actor so the director laid down on the ground and let the van run over his face to prove it was safe. The movie's also just an awesome hilarious blast to watch! I highly recommend it!
Birdman's cinematographer was Emmanuel Lubezki, Mexican Legend, he always works with Cuarón and Iñarritu, you can watch his work in Revenant with that beautiful lightning or in Cuaron's Children of Men
Love to see an episode of Invisible CGI, where we have no idea what we're looking at totally fooled us, as it looks so natural or inconsequential.
Agreed 😊
These guys once did a react to Gone Girl and theres so much invisible CG in that
That'd just be endless David Fincher movies

i would be really interested to see an episode where y’all go over your favorite movies/ films and why, not even necessarily a vfx react but like what movies inspire y’all other than the big ones like avatar
Rings of Power is a Flop!
Cannot unsee the fact that the trees to the left of the Rings of Power shot are cut off and not moving
This really shows you the difference between a UA-cam special effects artist and an actual professional special effects artists.
Less Rings of Power stuff, please. Lol
Man!
These were some crazy effects!
Including the hand behind Jim's head!
I would love to see a TV show that was on the air for a long time and how the effects changed, like Supernatural, or Stargate where the technology of the effects changed over the 15 years it was on TV
I had the pleasure of working under Ara Khanikian on some projects and hes absolutely a great, positive force in the VFX industry
Love your work, please do an episode celebrating your favourite 'long takes' or 'one-shotters'. There's a long history of perfecting the one shotter
This guy is a true master of his craft!
A cool alternative would be a look into how live sports overlays and VFX works, like the overlays on a football field, or replacing advertisements on the boards of a hockey game for the live broadcast.
Would love to see you talk about Small Soldiers, mixing real life, cg and stop motion! Love you guys!
Amazing episode, love the shot breakdowns they showed onscreen
I'd love to see a visual effect video where you do the same shot in an hour, a day, and a week to show the impact of time and budget.
There needs to be a full episode dedicated just to the Poltergeist trilogy, these movies are full of awesome shots!
The amount of hidden cuts in Birdman blew me away. I thought it was like seven or eight, but that many while action is happening? That's nuts.
I used to work in the same building as Rodeo FX, it's neat to see the sort of things they were working on in their office while I toiled away on insurance software :)
13:53 it's the coolest thing about vfx! A person who have no clue of what's going on would say "they WOW'd for literally NOTHING!"
Original predator invisibility cloak scenes. Especially the one where Arnie is looking through it.
Being creative always put out the best!
