The close-ups of the pant/shoe with everything combined is so much appreciated & hammers your point across 100%. Thank you for all that you do for all of us!
Thank you!
I love shoes with buckles and those gray/black are nice. The blue loafers are 👌
The cap toes are great; I've always liked those. The hole cut ones I'm not that wild about. Oddly enough, loafers are starting to grow on me.
Great vid: The tan brown double monk strap looks fantastic with the grey dress trousers.
Great video John. The burgundy with darker blue/grey slacks at 5:25 looks SHARP!
Thank you very much Joel! I like it too.
More great and useful content; thank you John!
Thank you David!
Today for the first time in my life I am dressing like a man, I put my dark blue jeans, my polo shirt from Collar Co, my brown double monk strap shoes from Lethato, my brown anson belt and a decent watch and let me tell you I had a shower of complements from my family. My confidence was just boosted to 100%. Thank you and Antonio for your advices.
Love it! Thanks for commenting!
Love your Blue Loafers, great shoe collection John!
Thank you very much Al!
Love the advice. I have seen many vlog like yours but they seem younger in age and really do not know the older gentleman as you do.
So true! Thanks for watching!
Hi John
Great Video ! Great Shoe’s ! Great Trouser’s !
awesome content. Ive recently gotten into dress shoes a bit more and really loving your ideas and videos
Thank you very much!
Thank you for this channel. Growing up in N. Central Washington around farms and fruit orchards the only ensemble I thought of was if my leather work boots matched my leather work gloves.
The way you discuss your topics has helped in understanding it.
Thanks again John S
Thank you John! I grew up in Seattle.
Thank you sir.
Fabulous 👌🏽
Way to go John, great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
You read my mind. I was just going through your history to find this very information. Thank you John.
Thank you!
Very useful also do one more for casual dressing.
very helpful
Good work, John.
Thank you!
Great Content as always John. The pants fit your very well. Killer pleat free and tapered fit. I really like the shoe style choice. Thank you for the lookbook
Thanks for watching Gary!
Oh, grey/black fade monk straps, very nice.
Glad you like them!
Your videos are always inspirational and fun to watch 👍👍👍🏻
Thank you very much!
Felicitaciones por tu programa, sigue adelante. Saludos desde León Guanajuato, México.
Great video
Thank you very much!
would be interesting to have the equivalent for chinos and jeans ;)
Thanks for the suggestion!
Good choice for a topic. For what shoes to match with chinos and jeans nothing above business casual in the formality scale. For example no black cap-toe oxfords.
Definitely getting some chinos so this would be invaluable
Also suggest maybe coloured belts to match shoes and chinos 😉
I live up in Northern California and there are far and few places to wear dress trousers. I Just bought a faded blue pair of 514'S to pair with some brown shoes. I was just wondering about this very issue. This vid helps out greatly. Its great to look on point when I'm out and about. Thanks for the help man 👍
Thanks for watching James!
Handsome shoes.
Thanks for video. Hugs to you.
Thanks for watching!
Hi John great video I like it very much. Because of you we all look great, Awesome. Stay safe
Thank you Felix!
Hello John, a dress boot can bring more variety
Nice Guide John, weather also has a say in what trouser/shoe combo one should wear especially if you're in the northeast
Absolutely true!
Whazzup John I love your shoes.
Perfect 👌
Thank you!
Love the wholecut John. Always want to had them. Kinda hard to find them in here.
@ Ian flem. You can find wholecut style in the boots made by R M Williams. They are expensive because the Estate of the fouder sold the business to a luxury goods group. But in there birthplace, Australia, they were sold for the last 70 years as workboots for "Stockmen". They are still made in the original factory who will put a full resole on the boot when they need it, The wholecut upper is so well made that the cost of the full resole is worth it. In Australia, in the era when R M Williams initiated the design the "Squatters" who owned the large Cattle Stations wore the boots with "Moleskins", not jeans. The moleskins can still be bought from RM. Wear them with Tweed Sportscoats. Also sold by R M Williams in their upmarket stores. But those boots and Tweed Coats will both still be in regular use in 20 years time and will still be in style. Phil.
Fantastic video! Any chance you can address socks
Excellent video, John! Gotta step up my shoe game. :-)
Great video. Wish you discussed more common colors like black, navy and dark grey. Kindly keep those in mind next time. Thanks.
Super good video 👌👌
Thank you!
As always, high quality of content. Bravo and keep up. Greetings from Poland.
Thank you very much for watching!
Liked the video, although I’m not sure about the last pairing. I would have gone with a black shoe but that’s just me. Have a great week John
Thanks Bob!
Hi! Iam from Portugal. Love your vídeos. Could you also assemble shoes in chinos? Thank you
Nice video John. I think in the end, as long as you know what rules you are following/breaking, often your own judgement is correct! - Han
Thank you! Great point!
awesome music
Thank you!
I love these kind of videos. Very helpful for the regular guy. I don’t wear dress trousers often, my dilemma always revolves around matching my shoes and belt when I’m wearing an unconventional shoe/boot color. I have several gray shoes/boots and several colorful drivers. What do you suggest? Thanks.
Drivers are fairly casual, especially suede, and when I wear them with jeans, I'm not too critical of matching the belt. If you're dressing it up, matching gets more important.
It is always funny watching Californians teaching fashion.
Too cool shirt u wear
Would love to see the same video for jeans. I can’t stand white shoes or sneakers with jeans which leaves me with casual dress shoes that don’t always work.
Thank you! Great suggestion!
Us guys in the Carolinas tend to dress according to the weather. Since Spring and Summer are pretty muggy with humidity most times, we tend to wear just a little looser fitting clothes. When it's so humid, clothing will stick to your body and sweat shows thru for no apparent reason and , of course, we want to avoid that at all cost. Most closer fitting garments always look a little strange to us and honestly a little nerdy , so we tend to shy away from them and we dress a little more for comfort. Slacks and sport coats are ok for more urban areas, but there aren't so many big cities in the South.
I know that with Navy Blue...maybe gray Trousers, I sport brown oxford or loafer. Black Trousers, black oxford or loafer obviously. In my case I have a pair of blue nubuck oxfords that I wear with my gray trousers
Thank you for watching Corey!
Excellent video John, wondering about the sock ‘matching’ process since U’ve opened this can of worms...
HELP...!!!
Mac😎
Haha! Just match to your pants and you’re good.
Legend
John, I thought the presentation style really gave the entire presentation a real touch of class, By the way, back in the day when young ladies wore beautiful evening gowns, to make their Debut at the Annual Debutant Ball, held in the prescence of the Mayor in the City Town Hall, their Escorts dressed in the most formal Dinner Suits, wore those black patent leather shoes that you called Tuxedo Shoes. In Australia they were called "Dancing Pumps" and the very thin sole was designed to ensure that you could execute a very gracefully Circular Waltz. Phil.
Thank you Phil!
Old school rule of thumb: your shoes should never be lighter than your hemline. :)
Hi John, thanks this is another wonderful video. One problem I have is that I buy as many shoes and clothes as possible but I don't use just out of fear that I would be different from my colleagues in terms of the appearance.
Thanks Mohammed, but why would being different be bad? As long as you’re within the dress code, there shouldn’t be a problem.
@@40OverFashion absolutely John, am in the process of overcoming this fear.
So, I've been through some rough times, I'm a grey haired 46 years old man and looking for buying a new pair of formal brown shoes, started wondering what clothes they'd go well with and came across this....Thank you...your content is amazing. Keep up the good work. 👍
Thank you very much!
أنت رائع ✌✌
Fantastic video! Love that the old fashion "rules" no longer apply! Age is not a factor in how you dress! Being young at heart is our motto! 👍
Yes! Thank you!
I know you only went as casual as a pair of loafers, but I just picked up a pair of tan leather "dress" sneakers that I have been wearing with khakis but I am going to try with my blue suit very soon. You should do a video about that look as it seems to be everywhere right now.
Thank you!
Hi John, great work as always. Where did you get those gray/black shoes?? I can't find them anywhere . . .
They're from Daniel George in San Francisco.
Where did you get those variety of trousers? I ask because I'm 39 yrs old and transitioning my style from urban wear to a more classy style
Some are from Express, Nordstrom, TopMan and Suit Supply.
I was hoping to get your opinion on matching shoe colors with particular pants colors. It appears you are for any color shoes for any color of pants?
Like the shirt, where did you get it ???
Hello John, Great video! Who made the oxblood oxfords with the reverse stitching?
They’re from Ace Marks.
Hey John, great video. I am thinking of investing in a pair of whole cut shoes. Which would be the more versatile color black or brown?
Brown would be a more versatile color than black. The third option you can try a dark red color like oxblood which is a very versatile color.
Yes, absolutely brown would be way more versatile. Black would be very formal.
You should start your own affordable line of clothing for men 40 and over.
That’s a good idea. I wouldn’t know where to start.
@@40OverFashion May want to reach out to One Dapper Street. He is a youtuber that has done it but for a younger audience.
@@40OverFashion I agree that it is a very good idea, but from my practical experience the practical problem is that to succeed in a general consumer retail market you have to take a national view. Up until a year ago, the major Department Stores could have been sold on that idea by any Old School; "Mad Men" Advertising Agency. But Online Shopping has thrown the Retail Menswear Sector into turmoil, with major Department Store "House Brands" being dumped into Australia during the "Off Season" in the Northern Hemispere. But that will eventually rectify itself and your well chosen Channel Name will have more development potential than what is easily available in today's market. I suggest that if you delve into the background of the recently deceased Pierre Cardin and Ralph Laurens, they both started from where you are today. But that's a lot of hard work and the easy path is to put the idea on "The Back Burner" until someone reaches out to you. Because that how it happens in the Real World. But a good idea!!! Phil.
Hi John. Love those pants @ 5:50 . Are those new or have you had them awhile and where from ? Also wondering where cap toe shoes of different color combinations like the two tone brown ones you have fall in the formality spectrum . Peace . : )
Thank you! I’ve had them for a while but I don’t wear them much because I’m not a fan of the fit. I would put those shoes you mentioned in the same category as Monk strap.
What about a nice chelsea style boot
Absolutely, but this was just about shoes.
Hey John--where did you get those grey, single monk strap shoes from? I'd like a pair for myself.
Thank you! They’re from Daniel George in San Francisco.
i was going to ask the same question
do they have a website
@@bubbie23jw I found them here: www.danielgeorge.com/
A little sapphire shoe polish / edge dressing action is probably needed my man. Otherwise, good video.
Where can I get that single strap black/gray shoe
It's from Daniel George in San Francisco.
@@40OverFashion I need that shoe, for how much $$ do I need to rob a bank?
I love your shoe style mister.
Is pairing a matching leather belt with the shoes not recommended coz u ain’t wearing any
Yes, matching a belt is a good idea , I just didn’t want to deal with that for this specific video.
That also includes a leather watch strap.
Brown or black?
What's the question?
naaaaah
May i suggest having your shoes shine with a mirror shine, Saphir makes the best shoe care products on the market
especially the brown ones, and specifically notorious on the sole's sides
Sounds like you watch Trenton & Heath . They introduced me to Saphir products and I have been very pleased with them.
Growing up I was told not to wear brown or burgundy shoes with a Navy blue suit or slacks.....
Blue and brown are opposite on the color wheel and will always pair great together.
How are you going to be gen x and not own tan chinos?
who came after Betterhelp??
I don't like the whole cut. Too formal, too boring
