@@michaelmcgill-uu5ox BTW, it's completely ridiculous to say that youth and grassroots football in the West of Scotland should only be played on grass. These 3G facilities are in use for 4, 5, 6 hours every single day. Unless you're planning on bringing back red ash or turning vast areas of land into football parks, plastic pitches are the ONLY option.
A lot of boys can’t play on plastic. I know from my son growing up and playing football all over Scotland. It is hard on their legs and may cause problems later on in their footballing careers. Living in the far north of Scotland where it is very difficult to keep a grass 1:00 pitch in good playable condition takes a lot of hard work from volunteers and club staff but I still think grass is the only way forward.

Thanks Sam, interesting stuff. What's critical to those though is who's paying for use and maintenance? Maxwell and others said they want everyone to be able to play, but somebody has to run these places. This is the critical issue that will determine whether this policy succeeds or not. And that's before we even get to the issue of the standard of coaching. Maybe the country for Scotland to learn from is Iceland.
Hi Sam, keep up the great work. I hope the SFA remembers that Scotland is bigger than just the Central belt because if it is like the roads infrastructure, then there is no hope for the North East and the Highlands
Fun fact - the Scottish Government spends far more per person on infrastructure in the North East and the Highlands than in the Central Belt. Not just roads like the £1 billion Aberdeen bypass, also the massively subsidised ferries and airports. There's no part of Scotland getting treated better or worse than any other.
Fun fact. The Aberdeen bypass took 20 years to finally be completed. The A9 is still a disgrace with no completion date. Past Aberdeen hardly any dual carriageway all the way to Wick.
Very good to see this campaign. It is interesting this is about pitch facilities for 3G and how important they are to the community and accessibility to football. Then we have the top league in Scotland making it mandatory that for teams to play in the league they have to play on grass pitch only, even if that pitch is of good standard (better than some grass pitches) and is used by the community for things such as grassroots and walking football.
Must of been the email I sent to scottish FA about the lower leagues struggling with there finances and support with there grounds, but there did say there where working on improving the leagues, good to hear its this.
Hi Sam, It's great to see that there's some money going into Scottish football. I hope this is only the start of the funding as these facilities will need maintenance and upkeep. Proper coaching needs to be addressed, teams with level 2 coaches as a minimum, at the grass roots, assisted by level 1s. I admire the dad who puts on his football boots, but he is not the man to push Scottish football forward. £50 million is very welcome, but it's only a start........
We have vast swaves of the country not covered by the current spread of Scottish Football. I just hope the Headline figure of £50m doesnt allow mis-management as every Quid matters here!
Hopefully league reconstruction is next on this revolution for the Scottish game, this current setup is not good anymore. Play each other too many times, it's boring. Should have a 16 team Premiership & a 16 team Championship then a 16 team National league
This is all great to scottish football but for what? Celtic and rangers dominate completely and your football pyramid system is Broken. Someone have to invest in a club like aberdeen, hearts or hibernian to try to win someday a Championship in scotland
It would be pointless and unsustainable for some uber rich dude to throw a few hundred million at a club to buy a league title. Much deeper reforms are needed than that but ultimately, the power of the OF is unmatchable.
