This lesson highlights a cool bending technique utilized by Jimi Hendrix, especially in his blues playing. The lesson teaches you the core technique and the lick that uses it.
Such a legend shooting it from this angle. Makes so much sense.
Can’t believe this video was 10 years ago. I started taking your classes about a month ago. Thanks for everything and making me appreciate my favorite guitarist even more!
Wow, this camera angle makes it so damn easy to see what you are doing. This is how I see the guitar when playing! Can't believe other teachers don't do this.
I love how you explain the reason behind why certain note decisions were made, helps tie the theory to the expression.
Ditto, completely agree with you. This is a wonderful angle to be able to follow along with and translate to my own fretboard.
its so true what he says about hendrix´ blues , hendrix´s blues is really something else then the blues of any other blues-guitarist.
Good lesson, that bend is such a signature Hendrix thing. While I agree, his playing was hard to pin on any other blues player because of his strange bends. The closest guy as far as big bends and someone known to be one of his inspirations is Buddy Guy. Buddy as you probably know as far as earlier electric blues players probably did more of the big bends (as well as Albert King, but his was more about his upside down pull down to stretch bends) than earlier electric blues players. Just an opinion of course. Anyway cool lesson thanks for breaking down the riff!
Good point about Buddy Guy.
Elmore James inspired Jimi's double bends! and you can clearly hear and see it done on Jimi's new arrangement of Red House at the 69 Woodstock performance!
You break down blues licks better than anyone I've ever seen. You're like a blues scientist. Wish there was one of you for slide guitar. Hey, that should be your next thing. Delve into slide guitar; you'd excel at it methinks.
Perfect camera angle for lessons, you're a genius.
awesome! I love jimi's blues playing...it's so unique
Best lesson for hendrix blues ever. This helped alot!
Anthony. This is brilliant. You have cleared up another mystery for me and I'm sure many other Hendrix fans. I often hear that odd sounding...but very cool up and down sort of bend. "Hear my Train" has a very tasty one. But I could not really get what is going on. Thank you so much.
This is the best Hendrix lick lesson ive found yet! Thanx a lot! I also subcribed right after. This helped me out!
Because with a front-on view, your mind has to do a 3D transformation to take what you see and visualize it from your own perspective. I could never make sense of it either.
Terrific lesson, dude. We need more Hendrix stuff, pls
Dude, I've been searching for a while how to do that godlike bend!!! thx a lot, such a Hendrix signature!!!
Love your lessons.
love the way you teach
Good to know I'm not the only one. Especially when someone of your talent and experience feels the same way.
@Beastlybb Hopin the course will be out before the end of the year.
YES, another lesson!
Agree, I have bought the three kings, and would jump at a Hendrix Course!
God that sounds so good,I am just starting on learning to play electric guitar and bending is something that is crucial that I want to learn especially with progressive metal music(also note that I am a 58 year old dude LOL)
I heard that first bending on House Burning Down on Electric Ladyland Album!!!!
great lesson!!! thank you very much
great lesson
Great lesson, I really learned somthing useful today!
nashville is awesome lived there for about 6 years :D and hendrix is my alltime fav guitarist....nice vid man! \m/
I really just want a video of you playing for, like, 10 minutes straight. I'm an advanced player, and I learn better from watching, and you just play so effortlessly.
Anthony, I hope you never change that camera angle. There is no easier way for me to visually follow lesson than a point of view shot. Don't know why, but I've always had a problem following the standard frontal shot. Thanks as always for your generosity.
Awesome lesson. You can definitely tell you've got different pickups in this lesson. ;)
Amazingly done muy bueno!!
very nice lesson......
thanks i really love it !
Mr snacks, amazing video!
Excellent
Awesome lesson, just one its a whole lot easy with the pinky involved, you can reach and move a whole lot easier
Very nice :) How can you avoid the other strings to being plucked?
Amazing I wish I could play well
Just curious. Why the super high action?
Was just going to ask this also...4 years later
@@mezzuna When you start going through his videos, you'll find that it's a very commonly asked question, I figure he's just tired of answering on the same thing lol.
He says it might be fairly high, but the camera angle also exaggerates it.
@@srenankerdal7180 thank you for reply!
I can't get my finger on top of the g string. My action is way to high huh..
Better tone
Please do more Hendrix! If I could, I would sub ten times for that!! :D
great lesson. what effect do you generally use in all of your videos?
Those new Lollar's sound sweet!
great lesson, i appreciate your work! where can i find that backing track? i want that one, the feeling feels great to me on this backing track.
THANKS VERY MUCH
thanks, this was great. from this angle, it looks like your action is really high. is this true?
Thanks
Camping? I had all the camping while in the Army :-) LOL Unless your in a Huge Winabago ;-)
I loved the Fender Tribute when Gary Moore played Red House, The room filled with Blues goodness.
Nice one
HI could you tell what your settings are ? pedals ? amp etc... thanks
great lesson. is that your src start? wat amp are u playing it through? cheers
DO MORE HENDIX! Please.
monster licks daaaamn
House Burning Down intro utilizes that first bending technique
Got to love Stevie Snacks!
do you have som lesson for bending vibrato? When I bend it's perfectly in tu, but once I start doing vibrato it starts getting flat.. it's fine on tiny vibrato and smaller bends, but once it gets tougher i go out of tune
it actually sounds like Hendrix. Thanks.
Cool man
You should do a video on Jimi Hendrix - Hear My Train Comin rhythm
Anthony, just wondering when does the Truefire lesson come out?
I hope this isn't a distracting non sequitor, but could someone knowledgeable tell me how I know when it's time to refret? I just had my luthier level and dress the dimpled frets and do a setup for 9s on my '97 Strat. My bends are now getting choked above the XII. Clearly low action is going to be the likely culprit, but the fret wires look very low to me. don't think I'm bottoming out on the rosewood, however. Anyone have any resources for min. wire height? Thank you for your help.
Hey Anthony what gauge string are you using? I find that bend kinda hard to do with the higher gauge string I use. I'm sure that you have talked about string gauges a bunch and I have heard you say that stiffer strings are what SRV runs. I am just having trouble with that bend. Could it be the strings that are making it so hard for me?
Hendrix used nines. SRV used lighter gauge strings after he got sober and sounded just as good to my ears. Use the lightest you feel comfortable with. 10s are a good compromise.
@@dahliafiend Thanks for that. Much appreciated.
What size strings are you using? I just took off my finger tips playing this due to the bends. Must be super light.
Anthony what's that ohter youtube account you have. Can't remember the name. Its more gear oriented? Great lesson btw. U always sound and play great.
Oldtonezone! I knew I wasn't imagining things.
You know those big lessons you sell for Texas flood and Lenny? You should do one for Hendrix's Red House.
subbed.. where or how did Jimi learn that?
19 second lesson thaanks (:
Good evening THING.
Was there a specific scale that this was played on?
His blues playing had a lot of buddy guy in it aswell
How the hell do you hold the guitar? Is it in your lap?
Anyway great vids.
Hey Anthony when you have the time you should checkout a female guitarist (not that her being female really matters its just quite rare, unfortunately) called Joanne Shaw Taylor. Shes got a real SRV style about her and covers some of his songs as well as her own. Btw great lesson as always.
Yes, you are.
Pretty high, I don't like to fight with the strings to do bends.
Why is box 1 called box 1 what the origin of the reasoning?
hey, what pedals do you use?
John Tuggle is already doing it. LearningGuitarNow (dot) com.
9 gauge strings? 10?
Any tab?!
you really do hear a lot of releasing bendings in his playing
Ok sorry I thought u had a 3rd website. I found the gear stuff. Couldve sworn it was under a different name.
Do you do any "Wah Wah" lessons?
clarkewi I barely use a wah, and I'm not totally sure that my wah technique is lesson worthy to be honest.
Texas Blues Alley which guitarists use of the wah would be most worth studying?
Tristan Laing Jimi.
stevie snacks are my favorite kind of snacks.
Nice vid... but the bend aint "weird" ....it's Magic!!
can you buy bent strings LOL=- SOUNDS GR8T thanks poster
3:09
Hendrix used heavy strings so he tuned his guitar down a semi tone so he played "Red House" in Bb
Thank you! Great lesson!
By the way, I can see the logic of rotating the camera but it's really making me nauseous! :-D
NOT a complaint! Just a funny observation... it's not a major issue or anything! :-)
Just look at those calluses boys and girls!!
holy shitt this is so sexy! thank you so much
Shit, it took me 5 minutes to figure out he's tuned a step flat.
now i have to buy new fingers.... but TOTALLY WORTH
The key changes from B to B flat cause....well.....Hendrix always had a different tuning. He wasn't very good at keeping tune and as long as the strings were in tune together he was fine with whatever tuning.
well....this should keeo me busy for 2013 :oP
This is silly, why tune down and then play a fret up to make it B? Why not just leave the tuning standard and place in the normal 7th fret position?
if he uses higher gauge strings the lower tension makes it easier on his fingers. also many blues guys used the lower keys more than the higher ones so it gave them more to work with
True, but the change in tone and the actual difference in feel aren't really significant enough to justify it in my opinion. Especially for someone of his skill.
I gotta agree, why add confusion by having to explain the tuning every time lol
Ciaran Williams You could say that about anything regarding guitar tone. He's a huge SRV fan, that's why he does it.
Anybody else notice hes playing in C.
You're action is so high... how come?
Hendrix did not use heavy strings. Haha its the exact opposite he tuned a half step down on light strings.
for lefthand this camera angle is pretty bad ....
