To be fair, King Freyr is the ONLY unit who can counter undefended. It is very easy to stack more than 2 penalties for Micaiah/Celine. Every team should run him, but not every team does.
I'm glad my comment ignited some conversation about the state of the game. In a grid-based game, if units can attack each other without moving or can cross the map, attack, attack again, then move back, it's bound to get to a state they can't put that genie back in the bottle and we reach the state this game is now. One could argue that, in the past, if you were to have certain skills you could get by without many issues. Nowadays it seems that unless you have the best skills in place for the newest prf-powercrept units you are doomed to fail or at least struggle massively. I am a player who has been at VoH and tier 21 Arena (with Ninja Corrin) for years now, and while Arena has still been somewhat manageable and even fun, AR has been miserable for the past 5-6 months now. For SD, I got to tier 17-18 in SDS before realizing I was not having any fun, so I've not played it for months now. So my comment wasn't coming from a casual who doesn't know his way around the game, but from somone who had been able to keep OG Lucina viable from day 1 until a few months ago with reasonable success. Hell, for a long time I even rocked Kaze as my main tank for AR-O, though those days are long gone. Great video, Tacho!
Even playing the game for characters is hard when they keep picking the same overused characters again and again without getting any interesting picks. 2/3 of seasonal banners are now just Three Houses/Engage, or if it’s not those two it’s the same picks over and over (Chrom/Tharja from Awakening, royals from Sacred Stones, royals/Kagero from Fates, etc). I can’t really remember the last time we had an interesting banner pick.
@@tacho9427 Sorry, I worded my comment poorly. I meant to say more that the seasonal banners tend to have very un-exciting picks, not the New Heroes banners. The New Heroes banners usually tend to be pretty goat'd when they don't cram in TOO many Attuned/Re-Armed units who already are in the game; I really liked Uther AND Oswin being added in. But the seasonal banners get... tiring sometimes, when they keep picking the same units over and over and when Engage and Three Houses take up a lot of the character spaces. I like seeing INTERESTING picks, like Fuga for his Wind Tribe banner or Christmas Black Knight, over seeing Lynn/Edelgard/Dimitri/Chrom or whoever getting their millionth alt. Edit: Greatest New Heroes banner moment for me will forever be Mustafa being on the main headline for the Book 4 Awakening banner. Severely underrated character getting his time to shine is awesome.
Reminder Ninja Lyn is getting a refine sometime within the next 3 months. The first ninja banner is next in line in the seasonal refine pool. So after Duo Tiki which is in the upcoming batch. Ninja Lyn and Ninja Laevatainn should be coming up. I'm more excited for Laevatainn personally, but Lyn is the one a lot of people have +10 cause she was relevant for pretty much an entire year and only fell off not cause she wasn't winning, but because Ninja Corrin released who did the same thing but slightly better by being a cav. Which really shows just how good Lyn was.
@@ALEXMARTINEZ-dz7so When it comes to refines the pattern we've been following is pretty simple. 1. It goes in order of the release banner. (unit chosen from each banner is random and only 1 is chosen per month) 2. Unit must already have a prf weapon 3. they must not be a dancer/singer (no current precedent set for Duo/harmonic refresh skills) So we know for a fact the next batch should be Harmonic Tiki cause she was in the Halloween banner batch. As for March we know it can be either Laevatainn or Duo Lyn just not which one is chosen first. The one that wasn't in March will by default be the one in April. Every other Ninja character from this banner doesn't have a prf so they'll be skipped then we go into Winter 2020 units the following months (Bernadetta and Duo Altina)
@@BocchiTheBox I see. However there had been some exceptions in the past like Surtr, Reinhardt and Olwen (these last two used brave weapons like the Ninja heroes we all love and that's why it makes me suspect). Do you know why they did that?🤔

I feel like the C slot is where the powercreep is really starting to show its strain. You gotta have BoL to not die to Melt damage. You gotta have Canto curb to not be bullshitted to death. The C skills role as the support skill slot is breaking its back under the amount of win-cons it needs to defend against autolosing to. While something as broken as Guidance4 falling off due to stuff like Sigurd and Celica rings might be a better example, I think NFU is the much funnier example. Skill went from B slot to an S slot, then got a C slot variant, and then because it had way too much competition in the C slot they had to just throw full NFU on an A slot as well. NFU was the original anti-cheat mechanic skill, and it's getting increasingly hard to find ways to run it if you don't have space on your team for someone who gives it as support
I hope so! Emblem Lyn as a unit, as ring attached to Micaiah, healers, and everyone's mother, and Rearmed Leila caused multiple AR-D losses for me this past week. My duo Thorr was useless against them.
I think the powercreep would be much better if it was all through skills. Tone down the individual units and make the skills better. I feel that Shield Fighter is a good version of powercreep since old units can still take advantage of to to be good, same goes for skills like Laguz Friend. Skills allow for older units to match newer ones, and this still incentives pulling on banners so IS makes money. This benefits everyone involved, and people can still use their favorites.
IMO skill creep is also out of control. We constantly get new tier 4 skills that blatantly powercreep other variants which are barely a month old. E.g. barricade/higher ground or stronghold/fortifications.
@erikshoe6441 Stronghold and Fortifications are side grades not power crept. Fortifications requires you to enter combat so Stronghold is still better for baiting, or on units that want bulk without entering combat. You can still have penalties and be panicked with Fortifications too. Higher ground is only for Armors while Barricade is still the best C slot for any non armored beast or dragon. Most skills we get a month apart are side grades and not upgrades.
Lyn's style has been absolutely crazy. Because like you said, you dont have to move, just kill the FS with some nuke supported by DS/TA then use Lyn to pick off a second unit. No more hit and run, just hit and sit. I thought Lyn emblem effect would have given brave attack. Would have been more balanced because it would allow many nukes to kill those really stong armors without support from Catria but they would still have to worry about traps and CC and actually hit and run.
I never found FEdel that bad tbh. She was pretty OP but that was back in the day when you could just put e.g. armorsmasher and NFU on some random f2p unit and beat her.
I stop thinking about power creep in FEH since 2018. So, at this point, i wouldn't be surprise if Intelligent System created a unit that is more broken that the previous one.
I’m actually a fan of powercreep in a way because I love to see what the follow up to last months update looks like Lyn being an example, what will Intsys think of to circumvent ballista range? new emblem effect? it’s always interesting
The unit movement, range and warping just has gotten out of hand for some time. If the state of the mobile game was transfered over one of the mainline games, I think people would just outright call it bad. Units shouldn't cover 80-90% of a map (on top of some of them having self-dance abilities).
Everytime you think they can't powercreep more, they find a way, and after that again and again. But i feel like it is in some ways getting to the breaking point, that people are like this is it and just leave. Also imagine being a new player, getting through some PVE stuff, trying PVP and just getting hit and destroyed with the modern things Also Arena is just broken at this point, went in there and had multiple times the "easy" one was just one hero, but the hero was just so busted it would destroy my (casual, fooling around, but decently build) team. Or when choosing the hardest the enemy is not even lvl 40 and missing skills while my team is full lvl and equipment. And my non combat hero can easily defeat said hardest team while solo
Ascended Merric was already one of the more underrated units from 2024 imo and emblem Lyn has breathed even more life into him and made him even more fun to use so thanks for that IS at least
My main problem right now is how do you fisght against those goddamn tree men everywhere. Can't tank because of assign decoy, can't player phase because too tanky. I'm at a loss here
There's always a lot of doomsaying about powercreep, but its essential for the game to work. Otherwise we'd have all built our teams in the first 6 months then got bored and quit. They've generally done a pretty good job of balancing the game (with a few very notable exceptions), meaning that, with some effort, your old favourites can still be viable for years. However, there have been times where the new tank is just completely undamageable by older units (or the new nuke one-shots all your older tanks). As long as you can chip away at the new tanks and eventually take them down, its fine - but even thats not an option any more.
For me personally, Wind Claude was the death knell , then the winter banner after. There's always been a strongest unit, and there have been big leaps in power creep in the past (Surtr, Fallen Edelgard, various CYL units), but, with those, they just made it so almost everything straight up didn't have a way to beat them no matter what you did, unless they were released after as either a hard counter, or an even more broken unit. In a lot of the worst meta moments in the past, there were at least some ways that units could feasibly be built to counter them, but, with them, it was different. I was very competitive (I was a whale that hit rank 1 in every mode) and used to love the game, but, the direction they've taken it lately, it's been ruined completely. Attacking from long range is normal in mainline games, but you can't do it all the time. Bolting and the many siege tomes and weapons have very very limited uses. Another thing they did in the GBA era was have the tomes be maxed out on weight, so, if you are using it, you are severely handicapped and need to waste another unit's trade action to switch the weapon to something functional. As you cannot enemy phase with seige weapons. Lyn attacking from across the map essentially has no handicap. Just pick off whoever is undefended by a savior and move on. If Lyn was forced to have her action ended for 2 or 3 turns and she cannot counterattack even with Null-C Disrupt to use her gimmick, it would have been balanced out better.
I disagree about Rieve. Sure, the Lyn ring can hit from afar, but it’s only in 3 columns, and in SD that matters a lot. Most people use high movement units to remedy this weakness and get Lyn or her ring user into position quickly. This is where Rieve comes in. knowing how this game works, obviously they will release certain types of skills or units that will block certain types of units later on, we've seen it since reinhardt at the start of the game. in my opinion, powercreep is a good thing until most players aren't able to counter most of these gimmicks. Casual players exist and they won't be able to progress when everyone use gimmicks that isn't mostly counterable. Marni for example was a healthy counter as a GHB unit that can counter certain units.

@tacho9427 Debateable lol. I just wanna be able to read and understand skills again
knowing how this game works, obviously they will release certain types of skills or units that will block certain types of units later on, we've seen it since reinhardt at the start of the game. in my opinion, powercreep is a good thing until most players aren't able to counter most of these gimmicks. Casual players exist and they won't be able to progress when everyone use gimmicks that isn't mostly counterable. Marni for example was a healthy counter as a GHB unit that can counter certain units.
