I believe the Clay Cup is a tournament put on by Clay, the Driftveil (Gen 5) Ground Gym Leader. Though, it is possible that the titular trophy is a Past Paradox Pokémon in disguise.
fun fact, brute bonnet is actually pretty good in wifi 3v3 battles because of there being no sleep clause. if the team you’re vsing has no grass type, you can bring brute bonnet in, get free spores and follow them up with a substitute. then you spam trailblaze to make yourself faster than everything and permanently put mons to sleep with them only being able to break your sub in their one waking moment. 4th move can be other damage coverage or swords dance for your trail blazes to hit harder. back when i played wifi 3v3 i had to put safety goggles on my kingambit just to counter it
If you're talking about Battle Stadium Singles, Brute Bonnet fell out of favor after Reg B way back and only got worse over time from there. And it wasn't THAT good to begin with, either. I remember watching showcases of it from Japanese folks and seeing it every so often during Reg B but it kinda just disappeared before very long. Edit: that being said, it had it better than Iron Thorns which never got off the ground.
@thomaschristensen9469 Sorry if I had a bit of a know-it-all tone to my reply, I was worried it'd be taken that way after I sent it. I try not to talk about anything I know next to nothing about. I play that format here and there, one of my friends plays that format all the time and I also have a Japanese usage stats website on hand.
@ nah it was definitely important to say because back when i played it seemed super op but now it just sounds more like a gimmick than anything, one that can work well in the right conditions though. I changed my wording to "pretty good" instead of "incredibly good" which i think is more apt
I always wished that they just named the future mons after different metals if they wanted them to all have a unifying theme. Example Iron crown could become Silver crown, it would be more regal and still fit, Iron thorns could become Copper/Bronze thorns which matches the colour scheme better for the future mon. Is it a great naming scheme no, but its still better than what they went with.
I had the same thought where the metal in the future paradox names would be determined by their primary types so it fits with the idea of them not only having a more interesting unifying theme but also an extra detail of them being seen as a series of Pokémon thus adding a level of consistency into their naming schemes. Like primary fire types like iron moth could be magnesium moth, primary fairy types like iron valiant being orichalcum valiant, and primary rock types like iron thorns and iron bolder being bronze thorns and bronze bolder with the shared metal name clueing people into the primary types so it determining the metal in the name as their the only future mons that share the same primary type.
Iron Bundle is pokémon Santa Claus from the future. It's the reason why the Christmas spirit, even in the distant future, still prevails. Its high defense is a testament to its resolve and resilience
Good sir, I believe this list is incomplete. What about Old Money, Iron Mugulis et al? Surely they have had a profound impact in the Jimothy Cool metagame, no?
Tons of romhacks buff delibird to absurd levels but ironically Iron Bundle probably outclasses all of these altered forms of delibird. Love seeing it come full circle
At first I hated the future paradox mons, thinking they all looked the same. Then, I saw their in-game models and animations, and god, are they infinitely better there. The artworks in 2D environments dont do the future ones justice, since they rely heavily on their metallic textures and glowing lights/digital eyes, which is not properly shown in their sprites or official artwork, and some TCG arts. Iron moth lools insane in-game, the different textures for each body part are incredible. I caught a tiny Iron threads in the game (smallest size possible according to the size NPC) and I nicknamed it EleTank, folks.
The Paradox Pokemon Iron Brain really left its mark on OU with it's signature move Tachyon Cutter, which is named as such because it can Attachyon you twice
I can't wait until we get more Rotom household appliance forms so we can set a predecent that might one day give us a future paradox form of Rotom called "Iron Iron".
Delibird has long been one of my favorite pokemon so the fact that game freak decided to randomly create a silly broken version has made gen 9 really special for me
Fun little fact, in the games the box legendaries are distant forms of Cyclizar. In dlc2 it's revealed that Koraidon's "past" name is Winged King, and Miraidon's "future" name is Iron Serpent.
I wish they decided to just give the Paradox Mons regular Pokemon names. Like what if Flutter Mane was called "Miswondrous," Walking Wake being "Hydroraptor" or something like that, Gouging Fire can be "Vulcaceratops" just usual Pokemon names with some puns or wit in them. We could've had "Solarona" instead of just being "Iron Moth," at the very least.
It is always funny to me how different the effectiveness of some Pokemon can be from singles vs competitive formats. Scream Tail and Brute Bonnet bottom would be insane in doubles.
Iron Hands only at #12 or 13 would be even more insane in Doubles, its the best Paradox Pokemon there besides Flutter Mane and Raging Bolt (above the latter and arguably even Flutter Mane cause 2 masters worlds titles) and for obvious reasons.
Jimotheus, your use of music from the video game "Chocobo Tales" for the Nintendo DS (Double Screen) during the Great Neck segment has not gone unappreciated. Thank you for that healthy supplementation of nostalgia.
Don't forget that iron boulder and iron crown got signature moves that were based on their unique type rather than the shared psychic type like iron leaves did. Truly an unfortunate hand to be dealt. A signature grass move would be cool even if it's just slightly buffed leaf blade
Perhaps because Chinese uses characters instead of letters, the Chinese translations of Paradox Pokémon names are actually more acceptable. For instance, the Chinese translation of "Iron Moth" is "铁毒蛾", where "铁" means "iron," "毒" means "poison," and "蛾" means "moth".
Great video, Jimothy. Unfortunately, I believe you forgot to include the Present Paradox form of Walking Wake, Blue Dog, which I believe has had a significant impact on the metagame of "Gen 3 OU", which is played by many.
1:13 I'm pretty sure they were trying to do some Metal Sonic-Mecha Sonic type thing with the future paradox naming conventions but I don't know WHY it makes them sound like unofficial pokemon that were given names by actual toddlers. They already did older versions of Pokemon long before and used "primal" so I can't fathom why they didn't just do something like "Primal Donphan" for older forms and "Future Volcorona" for the future iterations
I think about this each video, but I think this one might take the cake for the most inaccessible interior references of any of your main channel uploads lmao. I know Iron Bundle's got some crazy stats, but the lack of a strong consistent water move hurts it a lot. It has to rely on Hydro Pump, which is inaccurate, or Water Pulse, which is very weak.
Something else to note about brute bonnet, its speed stat is exactly bad enough where it would never get the speed boost from booster energy to use it as a fast spore user
One thing that got me thinking, what if they had hidden abilities I.E. Sandy Shocks with Electric Surge Iron Moth with Drought Iron Thorns with filter or regenerator or some other defensive ability
The worst thing about Brute Bonnet is that it could have been absolutely insane. Even with the worst possible Attack stat and the best possible Speed stat, Brute Bonnet's Attack will still be higher than its Speed by one point, thus preventing it from ever getting a Speed boost from Protosynthesis.
Even without knowing how strong these Ancient Versions would be, I would always favor them. Just from the few designs they were just so much more interesting, giving hints at more primal and vicious versions of the Pokemon we know. Every oke of them has different adaptations that distinguish them from each other and their regular version. All while every single Future Pokemon design is „what if smooth robot“

Iron Bundle was a great check to Miraidon. It couldn't switch in, but it was just faster than Miraidon because of the Electric Terrain even without that much investment and you threatened a OHKO on Miraidon. With a slow pivot or a revenge kill, you either forced Miraidon out and then got some other Pokémon or you took down their Miraidon.
Jim, was the wild boar from World Of Warcraft involved in this trapinch situation? I have reason to believe that he may be working with Crab from the same franchise.

What is the best Support move in Pokemon? Some have said that it is "Mud Sport". I find that unlikely.
ua-cam.com/video/OYA32AoPThY/v-deo.html
It's obviously focus blast, because since it always misses, its not doing any direct damage, thus making it a support move.

Subscribe so that the Pokémon Misdreavus can travel back in time and get help from her great-grandmother to stop Delibird's reign of terror."
