Couldn't really get what this video was about, I see a westerner somehow discontent with western nations traveling to China, talking about curiosity and asking questions, unraveling strings, while after himself living eight years in China obviously having done none of that himself. No nations in for example Europe are socialist, but nobody said there were pure capitalism either. Obviously, USA is the closes to this, but also, outside the US very few see all aspects of socialistic mindsets as evil, hence the development of societies as we see them in Europe. So, again, I don't get the target audience here, and the message us muffled and unclear as well. He want peace? Ok, so, the rest of us don't want peace then? Or, is it that western nations don't want peace? What is he implying, that China is somehow the harbinger of peace and prosperity to the world? If so, we're back to the start of my post. Thus far this is comparable to a blind man with his eyes closed telling others about the nice colors he can see. Now, would you meet a lot of great and interesting people if you traveled to China? Yes. I've spent 180 days in China every year for about a decade myself as well. But I wasn't there on some ideological travel. I've seen the dark sides of China on the more systematic level, and we as entitled westerners should be careful traveling anywhere in the world to find the wonders of our destination, and then defining that destination by what we looked for and found. We, Europeans, should deem us lucky we were born where we were.
Honestly, I can’t see what you are stammering and yammering about it either. When Iain said you could spend the rest of one’s life in a place and still not scratch the surface, he is right. In other words, to dumb it down for people such as you, it means that learning never stops. Obviously one gains knowledge over time but just like the iceberg scenario where we think we know something, there is obviously much more than what the surface implies when one goes underneath. He never made the assumption that you “don’t want peace”, this is your own projection. Indeed you go straight down the road of Western arrogance and hubris by dismissing the possibility that China could very much be the harbinger of peace and prosperity because as a matter of fact it is. China is not a perfect country and has plenty of problems, but it has also seen the greatest amount of measurable change in a positive way than most places in the world despite undergoing so much struggle and tragedy. Surely, your 180 days spent yearly in China should have told you this much, as it is quite easy to see these positive changes at ground zero especially in the last decade. The pursuit of curiosity is something that is noble and worthwhile because wisdom comes from asking questions and trying to find out more things than walking around thinking one knows better. When we come to the point and say “we know nothing” then we have everything to gain because humility is the first step in understanding the way towards peace, something a European as lucky as yourself should know in the chaos that is in Europe right now.
@@jayhayabusa9186 My own projection? Hah. Don't pretend that's the only message here. And the primary projection here is western oriental fairytale that is far from reality. We, as westerners can obviously find and experience this in China if we try, but it's not the reality of the society. Obviously, I have many great memorable experiences with the people, I have many friends for life there, and China has had many great achievements through the years. It has a distinct culture and heritage that I find very interesting. That's not the problem with China. If you think China is a harbinger of peace and prosperity, or a model society, then you are ignorant.
from what you talked about "yourself being lucky born as an European" i have to totally agree with you. just a little advice to you: don't waste your precious little money you work so hard to earn and stay put in your Europe. bcoz obviously your travel has done no good for you except wasting the sort of money you will desperately need in the near future.
Ian,I just love that walk down that path at the 1:00 minute time frame on your video. With that structure behind you, it feels so, so, ASIMOV ROBOT science fiction vibes. Its awesome! ! ! Thank you. Your curiosity has changed my curiosity some also.
Hi Iain. Great to see you using that Pocket 3 more. The higher resolution and better video quality is apparent. Also I see you trying the face tracking function. That hygine technician coming over as you talk about retirement was just sheer good timing! Boy the weather in BJ the last week or so was just fantistic. Wish I'm there.
Yeah, I started using the pocket 3… I hope you are using yours? The cleaner did surprise me but it was great timing and I had to adjust my thoughts around that as I could see him approaching 😂
@@ForAllLifesAdventures I don't use my pocket 3 now that I'm back in Melb. I'm too busy looking behind me and around to be in the mood for that! LOL I've got quite a bit of footage during my time in BJ and the few days I spent in Kunming. Got to be in the mood to be filming outside I suppose.
Hi Ian, Its videos like yours made me want to learn more about US - China relations that impact the global politics and economic development thats termed geopolitics and I found 2 objective reliable economists both from Singapore who have sound perceptions. They are Mabubani and George YEO who both served in the Singapore Lee Kuan Yew era. Profoundly intelligent gentlemen they are. As always, I’m glued to every single one of your videos. Love also how you quote your dad as the person who influenced you.
Thank you so much for watching and for giving me new people to follow and read up on… I am on a mission to learn and my father was an inspiration for that. He travelled the world twice over and always taught us so much… all twelve of us!!
Well done Iain.. Ignore the critics. I understand what you are saying. I have gone through what you say about the tags that the Westerners tend to subscribe to. Ultimately Peace, Harmony and Happiness is what China and the population have. I spent 3 weeks in China this year with most of the time looking, at daily life in the big cities. Yes it is also safe and friendly . You are right about the little history of China that the Western media churns out and often untrue and biased. Viewers should visit China , have an open mind , then make your own deep thinking about this old and rapidly progressing China, its rich history, its achievements and the spirit of its people.
Good to see you did go to the Olympic park! In the first minute it's the excat place where there're are buskers after sunset. It's quiet during the day tho
At the time , you were in Glasgow. We were visiting my son who has been there for 5 years. I have been in England for about 22 years, and absolutely love Scotland
Scotland is a beautiful place and often people go to the U.K. and do not make the trip up to see Scotland and I always say they missed a great opportunity to see another country, a beautiful country. I am so glad you got to see it and your son lives there and enjoys it. ❤️ ✌️
Yep, you realise that things are not as what you were led to believe!! Somewhere along the line I had lost my critical thinking and just ‘believed’ the story and then you start to scratch away at it and then there is no going back!
Yep, people don’t know what Socialism is… they just know that they are told it is a ‘bad’ thing even when they are surrounded by it and it supports their daily life.!
Hi, Iain, I’m in China right now. I’m 70 and disabled so I was able to get my visa without needing to traipse about England to get my fingerprints taken at an embassy or consulate. Just telling you that because a lot of people don’t realise that about the fingerprints. So. I’m in Shanghai. We’ve just had the biggest taiphoon in Shanghai since China became a republic. so I’m told We were inside all the time. Tbh I was catching up on my sleep from the travel so I missed the drama. I’m disabled and need help getting around. My pen friend met me at the airport and had been such a big help. We will take a train tomorrow to his home city of Wuhu. It’s a small city in Anhui. I like that idea. Somewhere small. An ordinary place. I need to rest lots so I can rest while he is at work and we can go sightseeing when he is off work. If I’m lucky I might be able to get out on my own, but I can’t go far without my wheelchair. Maybe I can sit outside the apartment block and meet people. My Chinese isn’t great but I’d love to speak to people if they will be patient with me. But they will need to speak slowly for me to be able to understand them. Ah well, I will soon know. Best wishes. Jan
That’s amazing news Jan and I am so glad you made it to China. Please take it easy as the travel and adjustments can be overwhelming. Sounds like you will have a great time
You're not the first to be changed by China....every nomadic usurper that took over the monarchy on horseback was subsequently changed into a sinicized sedentary ruler, embracing the eternal culture.😂😂😂

Where is that beautiful park with the colourful dragon? If someone knows please tell as I’m there in a couple of weeks

(11:45) Can't get enough of the willow draped river scene. China's capital city is so peaceful and vibrant.
It is such a beautiful place, you will enjoy my next video ❤️
Focus on what's on your thoughts and what's in your heart... it's that means you're on one topic on day and another on another day, so be it. 🦉
I do go from topic to topic… but that has always been me.! Can’t change ❤️
Don't stop the Yabba Yabba, it allows us to get to know you and not turn your channel into just another travel vlog. Thanks.
Thank you for the support ❤️

love to watch your video, since having quality discussion on global topics, instead of some western having pre-preemptive stance on politics.
Thank you.. I am on a program of discovery I think peace ✌️
Thanks for sharing and surfacing the truth. 👏👍
Thanks for watching Liam 👍
Most people are shock when i point out that supporting firemen, police, public schools, public hospitals are socialist.
Another great one Iain

Don't be thinking too much about life, nor too far ahead, make you feel empty, I still can't figure out what is the purpose we living in this world.
