BeGrit very kindly sent me this anchor to try out. I've never used one before so stick with me here as I play about with it.

    Hi Karl,
    Make life safer for yourself;
First tie the end of the anchor line to the Crown of the anchor (where the flukes fold out from).
Then lay the line up along the anchor shank, feed a tie wrap through the eye at the top of the shank , and tighten it around the anchor line too.
Then if the anchor gets snagged, you can ‘trip’ the anchor ie pull hard, to snap the tie wrap
(you may need to be over the anchor or even upstream/current to achieve this).
The direction of pull is now direct from the anchor crown ie in the opposite direction from the snagged anchor flutes.
Carry spare tie wraps, so you can use the anchor properly again, if you’ve needed to ‘trip’ it, and make sure you test the tie wraps are strong enough for the job, but weak enough to snap, when you pull the line hard, if it gets stuck!
Ps A quick release of the whole set up is a good idea too (just in case)!
If the float is buoyant enough to support the weight of the supplied clip and line, you can always recover your anchor afterwards.

Search for quick release anchor set-up/knot for when the anchor gets stuck and the current too strong so you don't flip. Play safe.

Where an anchor really helps is when yakking in coastal and tidal waters. If you get a problem and find yourself drifting into areas you don't want to go then the anchor will hold you in place

If there’s a bit of flow putting it through the front of the boat can cause problems, if you run a line from front to rear and put a carabiner on then run the anchor through that it gives you more control. Funny old thing there’s plenty of UA-cam videos about it

Have you ever tried magnet fishing, Karl? I've seen something on your channel if I'm not mistaken 👍

Don't see the point of a weighty, sharp (ish) anchor on an inflatable kayak. Still, you got it for free to try out. If you need to stay in place while out on a river/canal, an old 2-litre plastic milk carton full of river water and a length of line will do most of the time!.

I'm not sure how putting water, in water, will work. I know some people have used a dumbbell or weight plate before.

@@MoreThanJustaCleaner I have used this method on several occasions while out on the paddle. The bottle filled with water will sink inside the water because the weight of the empty plastic bottle is less than the weight of the water, however, when the bottle is filled with water its weight becomes more than the weight of water. Therefore, it will sink in the water.

@@DavidWilsonOutandAboutfresh water weighs about 1kg no matter if it’s inside a container or not.
I believe your carton may get to the bottom due to the drag of the current, on the carton and line.
It’s anchors or dumbbells/lead weights for me.
After all, it’s there for security (of you and the vessel).
      But each to their own!

Know nothing about it but how about a B&M carrier bag with stones in?
