After watching your video on Bents Garden Centre we decided to visit as we only live about an hour away. Since then we have been several time the last just a few days ago because they have all the Christmas displays set out. I really wish I could send you some pictures of all the decorations and trees absolutely amazing Regarding the David Austin roses a lot of our garden centre’s sell them and I have quite a few in my own garden they are really lovely
Garden centres started out just after WW2 and have grown bigger organically (pun VERY much intended) over time, the spread of people having motor cars after the war has aided in this greatly.
Yes, I just can't resist a visit before Christmas but spend far too much! I used to run a 30-bed care home which had massive rooms and big staircases, so I had so much fun using the money I raised decorating my giant house. We also had huge enclosed gardens with raised beds and rescue chickens, so the garden centres were visited all year to keep the garden looking beautiful.
There's a pretty good reason why we have Garden Centers like this all over the UK. Sadly I'm old enough to remember. It is down to Sunday Trading laws. Before the 1980's or 90's all shops were closed on Sundays, Cafe's and Restaurant's too were closed on Sundays. But Garden Centers were an exception, because Britain is a nation of gardeners, and weekends particularly Sundays were lacking attractions, so by a loophole in the law allowing Sunday opening, Garden centers began to grow and diversify. I remember in the 1970's, Stapely Water Gardens in N Staffordshire, was considered a Sunday outing destination, attracting people from over 150 miles away, it was so big the huge car parks would be so packed you had to drive around for up to 20 minutes to find a space.
That's really interesting. In Austria everything is still closed on Sundays, except a handful of select stores in busy places with lots of tourists, usually located in train stations.
Just gonna add to that, I agree fully with you but would like to expand with why we’re avid gardeners. Due to lack of space with housing we all have priveted gardens for a little privacy so we love our little piece of quiet.
As Natasha and Debbie pass through Anything to Declare at the airport on their return home, their suitcases have now strangely taken on a wheelbarrow shape. Natasha is wearing decorative wellington boots, fancy gardening gloves and she has taken on a different shape herself, as beneath her coat she has an ornamental bird bath and bird feeder stand. Meanwhile Debbie glides through customs on a Vespa with bags of strawberry marshmallows and candles filled in her pockets! No nothing to declare Sir/Ma'am...other than UK Garden centres are great. 😃
Oh girls you make me appreciate living in England we take for granted our beautiful open spaces and garden centres I hope you are both well sending love and hugs from England x x
@@jackierichardson901 Natasha and Debbie may have to take a special Garden Centre break here to the UK, checking out the bigger garden centres like this one and Bents as you can spend almost a full day in them and especially before Christmas as there is so much to see. In a couple I go to sometimes there have been little robins who 'set up home' as they find their way into the centre. They are not daft, with a warm dry shelter and plenty of their 'food' products available, so what's not to like!
Hi ladies , I love Bluebells .my late mother who loved walking her dogs in our local woods in the spring Bluebells carpeted the ground . I now have a Bluebell tattoo in memory of her . Garden centres are great to visit a coffee and catch up with friends then a browse 😊
You cannot beat a trip to a garden centre on a Sunday, full of nostalgia, goodies and an all round sense of chill, you can spend hours browsing, grab a coffee and just have a nice day out, British garden centres for the win.
I work in a garden centre in the farmshop/food section.. like being in work watching this.. we have a restaurant, gift section, clothes, garden furniture, and not forgetting plants! Strawberry picking in the summer, pumpkin picking in the autumn. All still owned by the same family for over 100 years
@@valeriedavidson2785 I politely disagree, I visit garden centres frequently and the majority are offering a lot more than just plants. We do also have nursery's that are more for specialised and larger shrubs and plants, together with barbecue fuel, firewood, some construction supplies like fencing and decking and horse and dog supplies and less of the fripperies but those are more for nipping in and buying stuff off a list not for browsing or taking the kids or going for lunch.
@@lynnhamps7052 I have been to a lot of garden centres all around the country and I am aware that they sell a huge amount of other goods but I am telling you that Burford is huge and much 'posher' than most garden centres. It is situated in the Cotswolds and Burford has an average house price of £1,000,000. It is therefore expensive and has the best of everything. It is obvious that you have never been there. I live 25 miles away. Go and look for yourself.
The garden centre in Kidderminster has a falconry centre too. Love going there for some flowers and then just to stroll around the falconry looking at the birds.😊
The largest garden centre in the UK is Bridgemere Garden Centre (Blue Diamond Garden Centres), which is located in Nantwich, Cheshire. It covers an area of 50 acres and has over 1 million visitors each year.
I have three garden centres within a 15 min drive of my house. None of them are as big and fancy as Burfords, but they all have pretty much the same _range_ of products (not the art gallery though), just not the same _depth_ because they don't have the space. Two of them are host to miniature steam railway enthusiasts who run ride-on trains on tracks laid around the grounds, which are very popular with kids. Two of them are part of chains and so only sell their own range, but one of them is independent and works like an "outdoor department store", renting out units in the grounds to any business who wants one. One of those units is my last local model shop, which also does model railway stuff, so the guys who visit it to feed their hobby can also get their kids interested via the ride-on train, while their wives go wander around the homewares and clothes sections. It's a genius setup. They've got a unit vacant at the moment, Natasha...😉 There's also a converted mill in town which is pretty much like the indoor part of that garden centre but without the "garden" bit. Gardening is a very seasonal activity in the UK, so the garden centres have these other ranges to cushion themselves against the roller-coaster income from pure garden stuff. They go BIG at Christmas, since Christmas trees are naturally in their ball park, and being set up for seasonal changes in product line, they can make a lot of space availaable for ornaments and decorations. They're probably the premiere source for Christmas stuff in the UK these days, not least because they then have HUGE sales of Christmas stuff in Jan/Feb, so if you're strategic and you've got the storage space...
After the Cacti when Debbie says "What are those?" the plant is called Kalanchoe Pinnata aka Cathedral Bells, they're a houseplant in the UK as they'd die outside in our winter.
I have 3 garden centres within a 20-min drive of my home. All have clothing, café, food/drink, gifts/cards water features, sheds etc... And plants! Always nice places to wander around for an hour or two 🌹🏵️🌻🌷
My favourite flower is the beautiful white rose. I'm a proud Yorkshire-lass, so that flower is very dear to me. Wonderful video ladies, thank you, and God bless x
Haven't seen your videos in a while. Lovely to see you again. As others have said, this time of year, you need to find a Christmas garden centre video to react to. They're magical with all the decorations and displays up 😀
Burford - they call it the "gateway to the Cotswolds". If you was coming up from London, a lot go to Oxford, then from there you head west about 30 miles to The Cotswolds , but about 20 miles into the journey is Burford, which is a lovely little town with lots of the Cotswold style stone buildings
Because we live in Cheltenham on the other side of the Cotswolds, when we have friends come to visit England we often take them to Burford for their first introduction to the AONB. Such a great market town with amazing history!
Thanks for this one. Burford is about thirty minutes drive from home for me. Your pronunciation is spot on. Thhe fact we have such good garden centers is that we are a nation of gardeners at heart.
What can I say, we love our gardens, and take pride in them. Garden centres are an afternoon out often supplied by local farms and small businesses hence the variety of food. They often have events too featuring specific categories and crafts
I live in the north east of England and as a child I literally grew up visiting garden centres. What I loved most was walking around seeing all the plants, wooden sheds, ponds with fish and the coffee shops that sold ostentatious desserts and coffee. They’re amazing. You could spend an entire day in them.
I would say this is usually considered one of the top 3 garden centres, the top usually being Bents. The other big famous one is Barton Grange Garden Centre in Preston, which is about 30 miles from Bents garden centre. Unfortunately, having a look about on here, I can't seem to find a video on here that does the place justice like the previous Bents one you saw did.
This is local to me, it’s a beautiful place but expensive! I’ve spent far too much money there over the years! The Beckhams live in the village next to me and I can confirm the David is a really nice down to earth guy.
I love my local garden centre. Mine has a cafe and a restaurant. Clothes shop, toy shop. Amazing items for the home. At Christmas it looks magical. And it has a soft play area for the children,
What a beautiful garden centre, theres one half way between us and my mum , we meet there twice a year with other family members for lunch. I love visits around Christmas time it becomes so magical . I just love your faces every time something unusual came round. Thank you girlies really enjoyed this one ❤❤ xx
I live 5 mins away from Burford Garden Centre, love going for coffee. This is a garden centre to just be amazed at!! My nieces loved the playground and they came from Australia at Christmas!!! So lucky to have this so close and we do have lots of famous people come!!!
Hi ladies, Natasha work in the garden water the flower's & Debbie work with the marshmallows 😂 Both go home on Vespa's to the Cotswolds real Life 🇬🇧🇺🇸👍
MagentaOtterTravels was my first ever subscription many years ago and the best channel on youtube...Dara knows more about the UK than most Brits and her content is always amazing ❤
I’ve been to this garden centre many times and each time it is for hours. I can never just pop in and pick 1 item and rush out. Different seasons bring different things and as most people on here have mentioned, Christmas it becomes a winter wonderland.
I used to go this this place with my Dad as a kid when it was nothing more than a nursery with a plantsman advising on which tree or seeds/bulbs to buy. I still go there now - more than 60 years later.
Garden Centres in the UK are places to enjoy a day out not just to get a few plants. One of the best times to visit is at Christmas when they really go all out with their displays. One of my favourite places is The Hollies Farm Shop in Cheshire. Their “Christmas shop” has just opened and is brilliant as always.
stunning you get better with every video thanks for getting my day off to a great start. as someone with a very sweet tooth those deserts look great and it all looks very good for wheelchairs too. God bless Scott
Good Morning Ladies! Late to the party again, but not all UK Garden Centres are like this! My nearest one doesn't have an art gallery, but it does sell a lot of other stuff besides plants including a pet shop. Burford (you said it right Natasha) is a very, very upmarket town in the Cotswolds - a lot of very rich people live there and the prices in shops etc show it! I did like the piano outside the loos - a whole new take on "going for a tinkle" 😂😂 Thank you both for doing another great reaction video, - looking forward to the next one!
Garden centers always try over here, no matter how small they are. They are all pleasant to visit. I've been going to this one at Burford on and off for over 30 years. I've watched it grow. It has never disappointed. Best of all Burford town just a few hundred meters away to the top of the hill, and is in itself pleasant to walk around. Lots of history and right on the edge of the Cotswolds. Your only 30 minutes from Bourton on the Water here. Glad you enjoyed it. Hoping too that you and yours are, and remain well.
We love our Garden Centres especially at Chrstmas. You have to check out Barton Grange near Preston in Lancashire. There is mini golf, bowling, curling, cinemas, boat trips, restaurants, food market and really unique restrooms.
For me its the time of year to make my Annual trip with my mother to a big garden centre near us because they have all their xmas decorations out. Gotta love a garden centre
Hi ladies, sorry for a second comment (I was a bit hasty and did not wait until the end) Most garden centres become winter wonderlands over the festive season. They all have a Christmas display that takes at least an hour to walk around. One local garden centre includes a stable with singing reindeers, another has a full model railway for the polar express. Add a nephew or neice to the visit for the full experience.
It is amazing watching a UA-cam reaction video of one of my local garden centres! 😆 a very surreal moment!! There are a few other massive ones in Oxfordshire too! 😊
The garden centre I frequent is Wentworth garden centre, it's part of Wentworth Woodhouse stately home. You can also learn about the history of the house and family, currently being renovated by the National Trust.
Absolutely loved seeing your reactions to this, I can’t believe you don’t have garden centres in the US though! They absolutely are open at Christmas and are so festive and magical, if you’re ever in the market for a holiday we have so many too - UK Garden Centre Tour 😉 the one thing they’re missing though is an incredibly talented stylist so there’s scope for expansion…hint hint! Love Dara’s videos too as she offers such insight into life in both countries!
Just been to Burford recently, did a video of their Christmas display, my husband is from Oxford so we used to go to Burford a lot, the shops are also beautiful there.
Loved the facial expressions of you both as you watched. Shame there was no dinosaurs or mini golf 🤣We have several near to where I live one of which is my wife's favourite. Love to show them to you when you visit us over here in the UK. Love, hugs and prayers from Sussex, UK
I have two very similar garden centers a few miles down the road from me. One that has a lovely restaurant that does food for my dog as well as me. Love going a least a few times a month. We have thousands of these garden centers all over the country, most sell furniture, sculptures, food and loads of other things as well as plants. You ladies need to come to Britain soon. Love your channel. ❤❤
Good afternoon watching from Perth Western Australia, looking forward to your video 🏖️🦘🌏. Interesting fact that Lady Louise Windsor, granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II worked in a garden centre during uni breaks.
These day every little bit of space is taken up by so many outlets from hand make gloves scarves..socks....very forward thinking every one loves a garden centre it's so peaceful and so much to see it's definitely a day out
Our local garden centre has a full Christmas Programme, with Elf show, Santa's Grotto complete with Santa, Story time and ice rink. In the Mezzanine you can even have breakfast or afternoon tea with Santa.❤
The difference between US & UK garden centres is down to the language difference. In the US a garden is where you grow edible plants / vegetables. A garden in the UK is what you would call a "yard", Front yard or back yard. The typical "English country garden" usually consists of a well manicured lawn with well kept flower beds, a vegetable patch, usually at the far end, a green house, a potting shed & maybe a fruit tree or two. My dad loved his garden. The lawn was so fine that you could almost play pool on it. We had a big fish pond with a cascade, a fountain & flower beds. All along one side was a rose garden.
Hello Ladies .... another great reaction video. But, you mentioned that this garden centre was a bit on the 'posh' side. Well spotted! It is after all in Burford ... in the Cotswolds ..... in a very very affluent and 'touristy' part of the country. That said, whilst one or two elements are, perhaps a 'cut above' your average large(ish) UK garden centre, the retail format and product content are pretty much the same for operations throughout most of the UK. Here in South Devon I live within an hour's drive of three large garden centres, very much like the one in the video, and about five marginally smaller operators, but all with the same components, such as a lovely cafe/restaurant and an eclectic mix of products beyond core garden plants and equipment.
Most of our Garden Centres are somewhere you go for a few hours out, not even to buy plants, I go to my local with my friend every week just for a meal in the restaurant, but ours is simiar to this but smaller.
I have bought many things over the years in garden centres, Christmas gifts and decorations, birthday presents, ornaments, pictures, and i still have my coffee table and large mirror above the fireplace & not forgetting a beautiful willow tree. I love them, you truly can find most things there and lovely food! You could spend all day there. I hope you both can make it over one day.
As others have said, we have similar garden centres all over the UK - my favourite near here is Wentworth Garden Centre - as well as the plants/shop there are 2 restaurants, afternoon tea, family farm, adventure playground, a pets & aquatics centre..... There is also a separate Historic Gardens, which OK has a small entry fee but has the gardens, ponds, fountains, maze, a bear pit, deer.....
When we go on holiday to a new area and want something to eat, we look for one of two things: A National Trust site or a Garden Centre. Both pretty much guaranteed to have decent food. The torso you were looking at was probably cast resin painted to look like a bronze although, at Burfords, it might have been a genuine bronze($$$$!)
When I was a young lad in Newcastle we had a dirt strip about two foot wide and about ten foot long in front of the living room window, I asked my dad if I could have it. Dad bought me six Rose bushes which I planted and looked after until I left home to join the RN in 1975.
Great plan, Natasha! I look forward to coming to visit you when you work at the Burford Garden Centre... living in the she shed with Debbie driving around in her Vespa 😂❤
Lol😂 you twos reactions make me tickle. Love how your surprised at our garden centres this is the normal to us in the UK, Most garden centres are like this, the garden centre I visit which is local to myself sells plants yes also clothes , toys, pet stuff, farm shop, 2 cafes to eat Lunch in, tropical fish shop, to buy fish tank, fish and so on. There's also a crazy golf course to play on and enormous gardens to walk around. At Christmas they have reindeer to look at a visit to santa for the children and lovely decorations for Christmas. Loved watching this❤ love Red roses being a Taurus Red being my favourite colour
We can spend 2-4 hours at a garden centre, quite easily, if we just want to browse, stop for a drink and something to eat, and just drift around. I love the clothes sections, which sometimes have brands not on the high street, jewellery sections and the storage solutions area. We enjoy it and take our time, as it's generally a civilised and relaxing experience in store. Exercise while browsing and a little spending.

What a beautiful garden centre, theres one half way between us and my mum , we meet there twice a year with other family members for lunch. I love visits around Christmas time it becomes so magical . I just love your faces every time something unusual came round. Thank you girlies really enjoyed this one ❤❤ xx
I just love going to my local garden centre before Christmas they have such lovely individual foods.
They should show this video to their local garden centre.... call this a garden centre ...this is a garden centre 😅😅
Hiya girls Richard the london cabbie here you two are the best on UA-cam by a country mile x
Hey Richard 👋🏻
You're very sweet 😊♥️
I live 5 mins away from Burford Garden Centre, love going for coffee. This is a garden centre to just be amazed at!! My nieces loved the playground and they came from Australia at Christmas!!! So lucky to have this so close and we do have lots of famous people come!!!
Great stuff 👍🏻 Natasha should just move into the garden centre, she wanted everything 😂😂🥰
Great idea!!
Hi ladies, Natasha work in the garden water the flower's & Debbie work with the marshmallows 😂 Both go home on Vespa's to the Cotswolds real Life 🇬🇧🇺🇸👍
I watch you two and your reactions often. Hi from Melbourne Australia :)
👋 Chris. Thanks for watching.
Hello!!
MagentaOtterTravels was my first ever subscription many years ago and the best channel on youtube...Dara knows more about the UK than most Brits and her content is always amazing ❤
Digging Natasha's latest hair. Cool look, sis.
I’ve been to this garden centre many times and each time it is for hours. I can never just pop in and pick 1 item and rush out. Different seasons bring different things and as most people on here have mentioned, Christmas it becomes a winter wonderland.
You ladies said, "This is not normal." It is for us, girls.
Part of everyday life for people in the UK, the awesome garden centre 🎉🎉🎉
Natasha, you look fabulous! Debbie, you are adorable. 🥰
I used to go this this place with my Dad as a kid when it was nothing more than a nursery with a plantsman advising on which tree or seeds/bulbs to buy. I still go there now - more than 60 years later.
Seeing Natasha's indignation mixed with delight is everything.
You two make me laugh 🤣 ❤ love you guys xx
Garden Centres in the UK are places to enjoy a day out not just to get a few plants. One of the best times to visit is at Christmas when they really go all out with their displays. One of my favourite places is The Hollies Farm Shop in Cheshire. Their “Christmas shop” has just opened and is brilliant as always.
Love these two patriotic girls.
stunning you get better with every video thanks for getting my day off to a great start. as someone with a very sweet tooth those deserts look great and it all looks very good for wheelchairs too.
God bless
Scott
Scott ♥️ ♥️
Good Morning Ladies!
Late to the party again, but not all UK Garden Centres are like this! My nearest one doesn't have an art gallery, but it does sell a lot of other stuff besides plants including a pet shop.
Burford (you said it right Natasha) is a very, very upmarket town in the Cotswolds - a lot of very rich people live there and the prices in shops etc show it! I did like the piano outside the loos - a whole new take on "going for a tinkle" 😂😂
Thank you both for doing another great reaction video, - looking forward to the next one!
@@malcolmnash6023 I wondered if you are American because of the spelling?
@@valeriedavidson2785 No. English but writing to Americans. So...Be well, and have a fine week, every week.
We love our Garden Centres especially at Chrstmas. You have to check out Barton Grange near Preston in Lancashire. There is mini golf, bowling, curling, cinemas, boat trips, restaurants, food market and really unique restrooms.
I love our Garden Centres! Can spend a whole afternoon wandering about and having coffee and cake ❤
For me its the time of year to make my Annual trip with my mother to a big garden centre near us because they have all their xmas decorations out. Gotta love a garden centre
Hi ladies, sorry for a second comment (I was a bit hasty and did not wait until the end)
Most garden centres become winter wonderlands over the festive season. They all have a Christmas display that takes at least an hour to walk around. One local garden centre includes a stable with singing reindeers, another has a full model railway for the polar express. Add a nephew or neice to the visit for the full experience.
How do you not have this in America??? They are everywhere around here!
Most of our garden centres have shops/ different departments inside & tea shops ❤
As someone who has grown cacti for over 65 years, thank you for saying cacti.
Fun as always girls.
My son worked here before going to university as we live near by. He had a great time, lovely people to work for. It’s fabulous at Xmas.
This video did miss out some areas: the booze department and the furniture department.
I was at Burford Garden Centre on Saturday, always love going there and the food is great
Our favourite garden centre is Longacres Garden centre in Bagshot Surrey apart from the plant sales it has big indoor shopping experience!
It's a date!
Yes!! I live near Bents... it's a go to destination.. the food is deliciou one of the very best garden centres.
Good afternoon watching from Perth Western Australia, looking forward to your video 🏖️🦘🌏. Interesting fact that Lady Louise Windsor, granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II worked in a garden centre during uni breaks.
Do you have these down under? I'm guessing you do
@SteveG-k8q there is big gardening centres in Australia
@@kathrynmcintosh2726 I thought so, always see pretty gardens on Australian tv shows
These day every little bit of space is taken up by so many outlets from hand make gloves scarves..socks....very forward thinking every one loves a garden centre it's so peaceful and so much to see it's definitely a day out
I live 25 mins from this garden centre and honestly i go every Christmas ❤
The garden centres are amazing x
Most of our Garden Centres are somewhere you go for a few hours out, not even to buy plants, I go to my local with my friend every week just for a meal in the restaurant, but ours is simiar to this but smaller.
I have bought many things over the years in garden centres, Christmas gifts and decorations, birthday presents, ornaments, pictures, and i still have my coffee table and large mirror above the fireplace & not forgetting a beautiful willow tree. I love them, you truly can find most things there and lovely food! You could spend all day there. I hope you both can make it over one day.
Polhill garden centre is amazing at Christmas, you could get lost in there. That one in Burford was beautiful.
I love Polhill and Ruxley Manor garden centres 🌺
You could take out a hair dressing concession within the garden centre -there are always units to rent.
I live not too far from Burford. Burford is a fabulous Cotswold village and the Garden Centre is excellent!! Restaurant is great.
I'm loving Natasha's new hairstyle.
My smallish garden centre has no food just plants and related items but still has around 40/50 varieties of rose ,👍🇬🇧❤️.
I have THREE garden centres within a 15 minute drive. Two are large and one is mega. The Christmas displays are mind blowing.
When I was a young lad in Newcastle we had a dirt strip about two foot wide and about ten foot long in front of the living room window, I asked my dad if I could have it. Dad bought me six Rose bushes which I planted and looked after until I left home to join the RN in 1975.
My wife loves yellow roses. Hello from the UK 🇬🇧
Never seen Debbie’s eyes pop the way they did here. Garden centres do vary in size. Love your channel. From.UK
Our local garden centre is just like this in Scotland.
Great video…Donna, WA 🇦🇺🦘
We can spend 2-4 hours at a garden centre, quite easily, if we just want to browse, stop for a drink and something to eat, and just drift around. I love the clothes sections, which sometimes have brands not on the high street, jewellery sections and the storage solutions area. We enjoy it and take our time, as it's generally a civilised and relaxing experience in store. Exercise while browsing and a little spending.
