i actually do know what flavor those opaque scoobies were.
they were blue raspberry creamsicle.
they had a DISTINCTLY "milky" undertone to the flavor with a hint of artificial vanilla, which made the blue raspberry part kinda hard to identify years later. but i remember, because it was SO WEIRD compared to every other flavor in the pack.

i think youre 100% right. they had a slight icecream undertaste + a slightly different texture than all the other ones, which is why they stood out so much
@@jjju3 they were like... oddly marshmallowy in texture, but not nearly as much as like, the foamy layer on the bottom of the gummy sharks. it was just such an oddly unique gummy at the time. (and one of the teachers at school kept a bucket of them for handing out if you got a perfect score on vocabulary tests meant i had them a decent number of times before the change)

Also- I have, and opened a 20 year old pack of these Scooby gummies and got two opaque Scoobs... But they are tiny rocks 😅

The blue one was always my favorite and I would pick him out of every pack.
This is gonna sound weird when talking about a gummy. But I also remember it kind of being creamy and smooth almost like yogurt.
I mean it sorta explains why it would be opaque.

Yes! Though I don’t remember it being scooby specifically? But they had the same colors/flavors in a variety of shapes. And the opaque blue was my favorite

I was initially like "Oh hell yeah that's a great idea!" And then I got a vision of a newspaper article with the title "Numerous cases reported of people becoming "too high" after over consuming Scooby Doo fruit snack edibles." And honestly, I may end up being one of them 😂

I believe they switched from gelatin to xanthum gum and other similar ingredients to make them both vegan and kosher. That makes them stickier. Most gummies did that, though not all.
Some are also using rice, in a method similar to mochi, probably to hit the gluten free fad. I was gifted a box of generic organic gummies from Aldi and found the texture very odd; main ingredient is rice. There's also agar agar still making waves in lieu of gelatin. Substitutes are similar enough, but humans have surprisingly accute senses for taste and texture.
Idk what they use but I know that the great value fruit smiles are still the exact same as they were when I was a kid.

I remember seeing the Scooby change in real time. My school offered them as snacks and one day the Scoobies were no longer translucent and I actually celebrated, because the opaqueness scared me and they were my least favorite.
I actually do remember the flavor and it tasted fake and sweet af but I'm pretty sure they were going for some sort of berry flavor like "blue raspberry" so basically sweet and fake 😂
I do remembwrs as well...I think. I think it tasted like blueberry glushers except the fruit snack was not as gummy if that makes sense.

It isn't just the appearance. The chalky appearance also affected the taste, making it taste kinda chalky, kinda like a chalky blue raspberry.
I was a shark bit kid. The grat white sharks did have a different texture, they had a texture like a yogurt snack. like yogurt covered raisins, that kind of yogurt. Also Trolli fruit snacks. They where more like dried fruit in texture and less gummy.
Sharkbites were the absolute best fruit snacks
I recently bought "homemade" gummy bears from a small rural town while passing through, and noticed some weird flavors. There was an extremely real-tasting grapefruit, a vibrant watermelon, and a strange blue one that unlocked a strange and powerful nostalgia. After hours of trying to place it, I finally remembered the blue Scooby gummies and nearly cried for some reason. I wanted to go back and ask what flavor it was, but I can't remember where I drove, so it will continue to haunt me. Perhaps that's the way it's meant to be, like a familiar stranger in a dimly lit street who you pass silently and wonder about for the rest of your days.

This may be unhelpful but were you using a GPS? Some save the route/ data about where you stopped. If you can recreate the route it's possible to fine tooth comb search on Google. (You didn't ask but I've done something similar searching for a lost taste)

I always viewed opaque gummy snacks with suspicion. What are they hiding? Is there a piece of broccoli in there and they're trying to trick me into eating vegetables?
Also I found out anything that proudly advertises it's made with real fruit juice just means apples. There's concentrated apple juice as a sweetener. Even things they are purple, yellow, orange, light yellow, green, etc - mostly if not all apple juice.
Holy crap I haven't thought about these things in years. They were a permanent fixture of my lunchbox as a kid. My favorite was the red ones.
The flavor was/is blue (blue 1 dye), and the opaque ones were a little creamy. I agree, that it's all about texture.
Their childhoods can't be that ruined if they're only finding out about the change years after it happened.

I understand that you like these snacks. (Personally I miss the OG Cookie Crisps cereal with the goofy wolf mascot.) However I am very confused about 1 thing. If they are extincted, then how come you are able to get those. And if you open them up and eat them. Aren't they expired Scott? I'm really confused at the moment

the flavor was "blue raspberry", i remember that well. this does not account for the opaque color of the gummi as the equivalent jolly rancher is clear. but for anyone trying to recreate the original, it should be pretty easy to get "blue raspberry" flavoring.

The light blue color represents mourning childhood. The mismatched colors with the gang’s regular motifs is our lifelong confusion and search for identity, but scooby is a dog and is solidified in his identity, he knows who he is even if others misrepresent him

I prefer the Scooby graham cracker snacks. They look more like dog treats, even though they don't actually look like Scooby snacks and they make a good cereal substitute. If you're out of cereal just pour some graham cracker snacks in a bowl and pour milk over them.

Are used to work for a company in Santa Cruz that used to manufacture those Scooby Doo gummies and when I worked for them, it was around 2013 to 2014 and they still had the blue opaque gummies. They also claimed to be a natural gummy factory. They also made Dora the Explorer ones and a ton of different gummy vitamins. I worked in several positions there, but one I loved, was working in the sorting line. We had to make sure that the Gummies looked like how they should end no defects. We were also encouraged to periodically taste test the products to make sure they tasted right, and each batch. But yet we were not encouraged to graze on them like continuously, put them in our mouth. But I remember seeing some of the older women that worked there and they would put the gummy’s in their mouth with the plastic gloves still on and put the gloves in their mouth, and then put their hands all over the Gummies like spreading their germs. But yeah, that place was really fun to work out in general. It almost felt like I was working at Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.
I remember a 90s ad about some shark fruit snacks, where the gimmick was that there was an opaque white colored great white shark fruit snack mixed in with the others. I went out and bought a box after falling for the advertising. I remember the great whites having a distinct creamy taste to them, but maybe it was just psychosomatic.

Okay so I was a weird kid, and I would save the scooby gummies in a ziploc so I could have them when I was stressed. So I can say with complete confidence that for the most part the scooby snack tastes the same. The real difference is in the texture. The older ones had a creamy, airy texture that always reminded me of salt water taffy. Some might describe it as milky, but yea lol

It's not just the look, the consistency was completely different. I worked at a video rental; place in 2005-2006 that had these up at the register. I ate a lot of them. And yeah, the Scooby one was hands down the best one.

The opaque blue Scooby from what I remember it tasted like a creamy blue raspberry taste, it kinda taste similar to the gummy sharks the ones that are blue with the white undersides.

I'm sure I had Thise gummies multiple times in my childhood but, I have one specific memory of them. I was in a house I had never been in before. Either my mother or father was there and talking to somebody. I remember I was hungry and the person who lived in the house had a packet of these fruit snacks. They gave me the snacks and I ate them as I waited to leave.
Nothing eventful, but it's stuck in my memory.
I don't recall any gummy in particular.
I remember Scooby Snack recipes from the 90s. They all included an ingredient which is now like totally legal in Canada.

When I was a little kid, I saw Gushers TV commercials and I thought that if you ate one then your head would actually turn into a piece of fruit. Then when I tried eating Gushers, not only did I find out that my head didn't change, but I also found out that I didn't like Gushers.
They got rid of the opaque blue Scooby-Doo in 2015 when do fruit snacks expire I think my school was feeding us expired fruit snacks
I noticed that it was gone like a while ago. Like 2016ish I'm guessing (definitely somewhere in my midteens). So the fact that people are just now talking about it makes me pretty apathetic to their shock

My Childhood fruit snacks are just gone. Shark Bites and Thunder Jets. But they had Opaque pieces, the Great White shark was obviously the best.
Scooby snacks didn't make it to my neck of the woods so that whole video feels weird, like something is missing in my nerdlore.
