  • I bought a set of 3 brass mini hand planes from Harbor Freight. I knew the quality of these were not the best when I bought them, but I also knew that I could fine tune them to make them really nice too. Started with sanding them down, and then polishing them nice and smooth. A nice coat of wax on them really makes them glide across the wood.

wow the finish on them looks amazing. good luck on keeping the shine on the brass.
it is such a pain to keep up with it because oils in the hands are slightly acidic wich needs to be wiped off and reconditiont imediately. thank you for the entertainment

Thank you so much! It really is a bit of a chore to keep up with the shine, but I have found that polished brass really glides across the wood nicely in this case. I'll keep them up to par as much as possible. It has been really nice to work with them in the shop.

What about the other 2 tools?. The plane that you demonstrated is the only one I found to be a functioning tool. No complaints with that one. I like the idea of squaring them up and polishing them. Thanks for the demo!.

Thank you so much for watching. The other two tools work great as well. I use them for cleaning up dado joints, even though I have a nice Freud dado set. You may find some other uses for them as well. All in due time.

What is the red you use on the polishing wheel. Is it clay

It's a red rouge polishing paste. There are different polishing compounds for different materials. The red is for brass and copper. I buy mine through Empire abrasives. Here is the link to the polishing compound: www.empireabrasives.com/red-rouge-precious-metal-jewelers-polishing-compound-large-bar/
