      @@Ambelica yes, the mother doing this with a much smaller dog. That`s have a much lighter weight in her mouth, later on, this will be to heavy and the skin is also sensitive there. A dog that is getting a treatment like that often, have maybe quit showing any vocal signs that it`s hurting - for why bother ? They are doing that anyway. Maybe after some "shut up!" too ? When my cat had to have surgery at 3 years-old due to a bladder rupture, he became really irritated and aggressive with the vets once he was feeling better. Vet called me to come up there to get him earlier than expected because they couldn't get near the cage door without him swatting and hissing at them. Went up there and he launched himself at me soon as the door was opened. Purring and crying, which made me cry. He turned 10 last month.

    As a dog trainer, I teach all the dogs I work with the basic commands plus:
    1. DROP IT! Thats right, my dogs spit anything in their mouths out on command. That includes their favorite bully sticks and chews so that I can inspect them mid-chew. It is important that they understand that I give and I reward.
    2. In addition, I never ever throw food on the floor for my dogs to eat. They are taught from the beginning to NOT put opportunistic food or objects in their mouth. Always feed them on a plate or bowl. And if they scarf something, refer to #1 above and command DROP IT!!!
    3. I am the best finger sweeper and have retrieved countless objects from rescue dogs. If they dont drop it, my fingers go in their mouth and retrieve it. I dont recommend anyone do this without learning proper technique, so ask @Bondi Vet to demonstrate in a video.

    • @Loviekinz
      @Loviekinz 2 роки тому +19

      It also depends on the dog. 1 of mine knows I go in her mouth to remove things, so she will drop it....UNLESS she's loose outside. My other I can sometimes "trade" with food like a cookie, but I have 2 huskies, they are incredibly stubborn. One of mine ate some plastic, I spent the next 5 days checking poop until it came out lol

    About the cat needing his hair shaved... I have three female cats I rescued that needed spayed. I had a vet that did shots and spaying for free but she had to clip their ears in order to get funded. Two of the three have such beautiful markings that I refused to loose any part of them. She agreed to spay all three for free without clipping the ears if I paid for the vaccinations. Obviously I said OK

      My cat was spayed at the animal shelter I adopted her from. They spay and neuter all the animals they get. But they put a small tattoo above the spay incision instead of clipping the ears. The fur grows around it so you wouldn’t really know unless you part the fur looking for it, but if Heaven Forbid they get lost, when their stomach is shaved the vet would see the mark and know they have been spayed already. It’s just an easy way to avoid unnecessary surgery and painless because they do it while the animal is still under. And then keep their beautiful ears

    when i worked as vet assistance, it was always so creative work needed, to find solutions for such unique problems...
    no day, no case is the same, and for many problems there are no easy solutions so you really need to make your mindup..
    sometimes even i myself, came up with the idea that saved the animals life.

    The worst thing you can do with a double coated breed of dog or cat is clip them. They will end up with more undercoat which is what sheds the most. Use a Furminator to get all the loose undercoat out before the cat swallows it.

      Small children do the same. Animals naturally explore with their mouths. Humans do it too until we know better.
