  • This Dell Monitor has the same problem as the ViewSonic I fixed a year or so ago. The power light flashes continuously. So by now we know this is a good sign of power supply issues. The main challenge with any of these displays is how to open them up! Part 1 shows the disassembly and repair.

3 Days back my Dell monitor displayed exactly the same problem. I was not sure how I would get it fixed. Then a Google search led me to this video. This is PRECISELY what I needed with exactly the same part needing the replacement. The capacitor cost less than 20c and I am all done. Wow!
    A BIG THANK YOU

Thank you John... I had the exact same problem on my "Dell E198FPf" monitor.
I opened it by following your procedure and found out that the capacitors on the same location of power board had bloat upwards (1000uf, 25V). I had replaced it with a 2000uf@25 capacitor I have, and the monitor comes back to life again :-)

Thanks a lot for the video! Saved $$ from buying a new monitor. Mine is a SE198WFP and has 5 dead caps. Replaced those for only $7 and everything is back to normal. Yeheeyyy!!!!

I don't know what's wrong with mine. Mine is the same as yours but I turn on the CPU but e power button on the monitor doesn't turn on. And there's only one light on the keyboard which is on the left. Can you tell or show me how to fix it please?

Thank you Sir smartjohn... That is precisely the problem of my "Dell E198FPb," monitor... I had open it by following your "UA-cam," instuction and have discovered that exactly the same type of Capacitors on the power board location had appeared to bloat upwards, only that there are TWO of them instead of ONE... I shall find purchase replacements for it ASAP...Thanks again for the INFO.

Mines had two 680uF 16V. I just had two 1000uF @25V around. I figured I'll take a shot. After replacing them, the monitor came back to life.
