First Impressions of riding the 22' Honda CRF450RL around town and the neighborhood!

- Let me get this out in the open off the bat: I'm NOT a street going motorcycle rider! I don't particularly enjoy riding on the streets here in Central Florida. They're boring to me in my area (as you'll see in the video), potentially dangerous due to the proximity of the touristy Orlando area (LOT's of people unaware of where they are or need to be going), and are really best suited for daily commuting big boys like Harley's and Goldwings. Definitly NOT the type of roads you'd enjoy on a dual sport bike... So why did I get a dual sport and why am I testing it on the roads in this video? Well although I prefer the dirt, the biggest reason I got this bike was the ability to participate in adventure rides such as the Dixie Dual Sport Cross Florida Rides (dixiedualsport.com/cross-flor...) and the one that sparked this initiative - which I'll be doing two weeks from when this video is published - the Bear Creek Sportsmen Quarry Run in Upstate NY during our yearly summer vacation there (bearcreeksportsmen.com/quarry-.... These types of events require fully street legal bikes, and that's really where you get painted into a corner on what bikes you can target. I really want a motocross bike that can rip the track and trails, a Honda CRF450X or RX would've fit my needs VERY well outside of the street legal requirement based on my type of riding (mostly trails with some light MX racing mixed in). The KTM/Hus 350 street legals were considerations as well, but I wanted to stay loyal to Honda based on having them all of my life. So, here we are! The Honda CRF450RL was the bike that satisfied the street legal requirements for the rallys, and had enough MX race bike DNA to allow me to enjoy the track and trails as well (albeit with a bit of added heft!).
With very little road riding being my goal, I still need to learn how this bike handles the road and what it is capable of. I do visit the area gas stations for refueling and to grab the occasional hot dog, enjoy a sunset cruise around the neighborhood, and to get some fresh air while shedding off some stress of the work week, and this is the typical type of ride I do for the above criteria, so this is my first experience doing those things on the bike! - Авто та транспорт
Picked up a 23 in April of this year. What a bike. I just recently tightened my suspension and it's a whole new bike.
Awesome bro! Im in port saint lucie and bought one 3 days ago as well been enjoying it. All the roads near me are pretty wide opened and people go 60-70 so im with you there on it not being so fun on the road so far. We dont see tourists but theres a ton of old people and terrible drivers so you always gotta be alert. Its a good time once you get off those faster roads but i got the bike mainly to find and ride trails in my town and areas near it. Enjoy the bike man
Congrats! Hope you're loving it so far, I've had mine for almost a year and am just getting the content out on my channel, but I'm still loving it despite not having done the rallys and race stuff I've planned to do yet. We did build up a pretty sick private riding area at my parents property down the street (which I'll show in future videos), and that's where I've been riding it mostly. Let me know if you find any good trails down there, but I'd also recommend taking it to the track (MotoBros in Okeechobee is pretty close to you) and ripping around the intermediate track. The bike will handle it for sure and it's a blast! It'll even handle the big tracks, just have to watch how much air you get as the rear suspension is pretty soft. I had mine on several MX tracks up at Highland Park in North Georgia and it handles a conservative track very nicely
@@John5XR Good to know, that track is actually on the same property as the shooting range i go go sometimes so its not a bad drive at all ill keep that in mind.
Thanks John! Could you make a video expanding on the technique of feathering the RL’s clutch off-road? Thanks again.
Great video!!!
Thank you!!
I have a 22 450RL as well. The vortex ECU and yoshimura full exhaust transform it. I also have done an emissions delete with some other mods. Great bike!
Bought this thing today. It's a average bike on all aspects. It's a better road bike then any dirtbike and a better dirtbike then any roadbike. It does everything average and it masters none. That is something special and I love it.
You just described dual sport motorcycles in one paragraph 😂
Just picked up a 2024. I would warm any dirtbike up until the radiator is very warm to the touch.
That must be one hell of an extended swing arm if that bike is measuring 22 feet long.
How would you compare it to the xr400r, I mean power
Hey John let me know if you wanna ride I myself have an RL and live in Orlando we can ride around
I agree. I stayed in maitland near Orlando.. street riding near Orlando does suck and dangerous . 75 year old tourists driving 80 mph
Exactly. There are some nice roads out by Mt Dora and Howey in the Hills though, so I don’t want to blanket CFL as a terrible place to ride.
Flash ECU and no more jerky throttle
Can’t flash these unfortunately, it’ll have to be an aftermarket replacement
Athena GET
Vortex
No flame outs / no jerky throttle
My KTM 1290 SAR doesn't flame out. It's also 20 grand.
I’m 6’0 and I tiptoe mine🤨
Looks like my 5’11 will be reaching then .
I want so bad to like this bike but it's 2 inches too high for me and Honda should have just scaled up the 300L engine instead of trying to down tune a hot moto crosser.
They make lowering link kits! And I disagree, I think this engine is fantastic and I specifically wanted a street legal motocross bike
Hey J.
The audio on this vid sounds great. You can hear your voice clearly and no wind.
But your bike sounds a bit louder than everyone says it is.
They make lower kits and lower seats that make it an inch lower.
