New Nintendo 3DS Cover Plates Were Awesome!!

- The New Nintendo 3DS was a system with maybe a questionable name but also with one super cool feature. The swappable cover plates! While the New 3DS XL had bigger screens, the customizability of the regular New 3DS made it my go to system and one that I absolutely love. Hopefully Nintendo releases another system that allows for this amount of customizability in the future!

i do really wish they did something similar with the new 3ds XL, I would have loved to have an animal crossing themed one. but i think that two sizes of cover plates would add even more confusion to the already confusing 3ds lineup haha
Yeah I think you're absolutely right. The New 3DS name was already confusing enough. I'm glad they did anything at all though.

I have some coverplates and i loved them!
I remember mixing and matching my Yoshi coverplate (with the different pastel colored Yoshi’s) with the green/ white dots side of the 1 up mushroom coverplate so it looked like a green Yoshi egg.
Ugh I love that pastel colored Yoshi cover plate so much!! Definitely sad I missed out on those.
Man I always wanted a regular New 3DS because of hese cover plates. That Dragon Ball Z one is so sick!
That felt one was also something else, never knew they made that!
These were so cool. I even imported Fire Emblem If plates from Japan back in the day and I'm glad I did because there is no way I'd get a set for what ebay sellers are trying to sell them for.
The original, only 'New' 3DS in the US market before the white or black Mario ones was the Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer bundle. I still have mine 💜
These cover plates are really neat, I've got yoshi ones on mine it they make my system look amazing
There's a couple awesome Yoshi ones! I forgot to mention the glow in the dark Boo cover plates that I desperately want but they're so expensive.

It was so fun to join you on appreciating these things! Really brightened my lunch break :) I think my favourites are the transparent pink and yellow ones, and the Xenoblade one ^^
I really want to grab the transparent ones if I can ever find them. I love that the Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire ones were also transparent but I never got those either sadly. Thanks for watching!
@@NaveedCollects I expressed the same sentiment on a discord and someone (that I don't know) said you could get knockoffs online, I haven't looked into it yet though I still haven't gotten a New 3DS. I hope it works out though! I want a strawberry lemon 3DS xD

I just got the new 2DS XL, and I really wish it had swappable plates.
My wife always wished they did more she couldn't;t find many she liked. She has the animal crossing one that came with her happy home 3ds and she has a Pikachu one.
Japan definitely got a lot more that I don't think we got out west. I just don't remember seeing a ton in stores here either.
I wish I would've collected them back then. They are so expensive now. Great video.
Thanks!! Yeah it sucks how hard they are too find these days. You can import some from Japan for fairly cheap but a lot of the coolest ones are still super expensive over there too
@@NaveedCollects Where would I go about importing them from Japan? Ebay? If so do you have an account you purchased from? I was looking at the Pokemon Red and Blue N3DS Bundle and its going for $900 lololol.
@@fear3bk I'm not sure if you'd be able to find those pokemon ones for cheap even by importing but I've found some through proxy sites like Buyee. Those allow you to shop on Japanese versions of things like Mercari and Yahoo auctions.
My wife got me a new 3ds xl for my birthday when they first came out. I loved and still cherish it to this day, so i bought the smaller version to not put so mich wear and tear on the xl one.

the mario maker one was released as a bonus faceplate alongside the red and blue mario render faceplates, the bundle came with mario 3d land

Recently modded my small New 3ds and confirmed what I was already 90% certain was a top ips screen, but jumped for joy when it also showed the bottom screen to be an ips one as well. Got it refurbished from gamestop years ago and it came with those same mario maker faceplates you showed off in the video (which imo are the best face plates by a LARGE margin, that shade of yellow with the bursting colors from the sprites against the beige white of the console? MWAH. Chef’s kiss😩👌🏼) Wish I could shake hands with the poor sucker that had to sell this mythical unicorn of a unit
I have a New3DS and a bunch of Faceplates, and on the ones that are plain colour, I have added a bunch of vinyl stickers, to customise them more.

I wish I actually bought these back in the day, but as I was still in school, I never picked any of them up. Some are still available online, so I grabbed the Splatoon one, but that Super Mario Maker cover plate you have is just the coolest.
I definitely wish I picked up more. Some of the coolest ones are still so hard to get unfortunately.

You know I have heard so many times that the original 3ds got screen scratches when closing but I bought one at launch and played the sht out of it and it NEVER got those scratches and looking at it today (yep still have it) there's still no scratches. At this point I play my launch *News 3ds still every day. I do have the smaller *new 3ds as well (I have the animal crossing happy homemaker one and a few other faceplates.). I still have every version of the DS/3DS that I always bought at launch (does not include all the special editions...). I did trade in my small DSi and my original grey DS but the others I have kept.
The way those are all legit and still in box😫sitting on a gold mine
And I missed out on so many good ones still too T^T

Have you considered getting clear face plates, so you can put your own printed images behind them?
Yeah I'd love to try that but the clear official faceplates are really expensive now. I could get knock offs if I wanted to though lol

I’m glad Nintendo didn’t give up on the face plates. I’m holding out for a final Switch iteration. It’s Nintendo’s best selling system, it would be a waste if they didn’t perfect it. I’d love a sleek Switch Lite OLED with a better, sturdier build and Face plates. Maybe with a Game Boy Face Plate. I’d love that. I’d buy the f*ck out of that. Talk is cheap, but I’m always tempted to spend, so I may as well spend on a proper iteration.

I would if I had any haha. That's why I mentioned them in this video. I didn't get a Micro until after they were discontinued so I never got a chance to pick up any faceplates :(
Finally someone that actually use the faceplates and enjoy it 😅, where can we get faceplate for both new 3ds and new 3ds xl for good price now? 😢
Buying from Japan is probably the best option at this point.
