What are the typical issues for a baby born at 34 weeks?

- A mother is the best incubator for her growing baby. Every day inside of a mom will save three days inside of the newborn ICU. With that said, sometimes there comes a point in pregnancy where a baby, either for the baby's wellbeing or the mother's wellbeing, the baby would be better out. It sounds like you're having some complications where this might be the case. If your doctor ever recommends induction be sure to listen to them because they have your best interests at heart and they want you and your baby to be healthy and well. If it does come down to delivering you early talk with your doctor about your specific questions and they may also even recommend that a neonatologist from the newborn ICU comes and talks to you in greater detail about your baby's prognosis. They can share statistics with you and their experience with preterm babies when it comes to your gestational age, like at 32 weeks, 33 weeks, 34 weeks and tell you what you can likely expect. At the end of the day the best prognosis can be made after your baby is born when they see how he or she is responding to treatment. At 34 weeks the good thing is that the long-term prognosis is the same as full term babies. Actually if a woman goes into labor at 34 weeks her doctor will typically not stop her. This doesn't mean though that there wouldn't be hurdles to overcome in the beginning. Babies born between 34 and 37 weeks often have breathing issues and jaundice and they have issues with eating and so they have issues growing. They have to stay inside the newborn ICU until they're able to breathe on their own, and eat well, and they've overcome jaundice, and other issues that might have existed at the time of birth. If your baby is born preterm they usually say count on your baby being in the newborn ICU until their due date and if they get to go home sooner than that then it's a pleasant surprise. I hope the very best for you and your baby and if you have any other questions for me in the future feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at Facebook.com/IntermountainMoms and recommend us to your friends and family too.
My 34+5 baby was only on oxygen & CPAP for 1 night, and was out of NICU and in my room by the 3rd day. Discharged home with me on my 4th day and only needed some vitamin D drops for 2 weeks, and regained all weight (5lbs 3 oz) by 2 weeks. Even the NICU Drs were like he was mostly in just due to hospital protocol being babies under 35 weeks must start in NICU but he has needed very little intervention and has been a happy healthy boy so far. Was an emergency C-section due to severe preeclampsia and fetal distress.
This made me a little more at ease.
My 34.4 baby had a stumach tube for feeds. We got released from the hospital at 36 weeks. She was ready.
My daughter was born at 33 weeks and I am so grateful she didn't have any problems. Now I'm worried that my second will be born early too. Anyone go through the same or similar situation?
Posible My first was born 34weeks My second 33 Week am expecting My 3rd one am 33 weeks And 4 days already this Time i was placed medication let see how far i go😊
My first don was born 36 weeks, 2 baby 41 weeks and am 34 weeks right now, see how it goes :)
My daughter was born at 35 weeks, perfectly healthy, just small. No NICU stay at all.
I'm 33 weeks +2 days right now, I'm having the same worries that this daughter will be born around the same time.
No advice, but you're not alone ❤
My first daughter was a 33 weeker. Second daughter whom I had on 8/9/21 was a 34 weeker.
Yes, duper late but I had my first daughter at 37 weeks and a couple days old, for my second daughter I actually asked them if I can be placed on bed rest due to that and they told me no and they couldn’t until I was 38 weeks pregnant, I had her at 34 weeks, a week after asking them about the bed rest
33 weeks 4+ lbs ? I feel like I’m losing my mind she was born 8/16 it’s now 8/26 longest days of my life !!!!
I had a baby at 37weeks ( water broke at 36+4) and he had jaundice needing light therapy but we went home as soon as I wprecovered from the forceps birth since he was considered full term….
I had Complications durning my pregnancy with my daughter, she was born at 34 weeks but my water broke earlier at 33+6, she had to go to Nicu for two weeks, my son was born at 36+4 and he had really high Billy Rubin levels so he ended up having to go under the light it was hard cuz he would 😢
Had my daughter at 33 weeks and 6 days. Shes been in the NICU 5 days. I hope she doesnt have to stay too long! 😔
@@stephanievanrandall7849 she ended up staying in the nicu for 2 weeks
@@hannahortiz1629 As long as she is healthy and thriving that is all that matters
@@stephanievanrandall7849 oh yes for sure she had to stay for her jaundice and then she needed to take full feedings but other then that she was healthy and the nicu dr was happy about it
@@hannahortiz1629 I'm happy for you!! That's all my baby is working on now is steady feedings. But she is gaining weight and hopefully by tomorrow her jaundice is 100% gone... she hasn't been under the light all day today! Her breathing has been great since birth also!! I'm so proud of her!!
I'm asking a question my son is already an adult now he just turned 18 but I just wonder I wasn't able to nurse properly at 34 weeks I kept pumping and no milk would come out I just wonder why is it because he was so early and they gave me the epidural during the pregnancy for delivery and I was having sharp pains in my kneecaps they gave me birth control the shot and I felt his at my milk
Thank you...
Until their due date?? Oh man this just terrified me. I’m currently in hospital with premature broken water at 34 weeks. I can’t imagine my baby being in Nicu now for 6 weeks. 😔
Well best wishes to you and yours. I had my son at 33wks and 4 days. He was only in the NICU for eight days and we left on the ninth. So try not worry yourself to much.. yea I know easier said than done.
My son was born at 35 weeks he only stayed in nicu 16 days. My water randomly broke I wasn't dilated any.
Janine Lee my granddaughter was born 12 weeks premature, but was home 2 weeks later due to doing so well, and she is 8 years old this year, and thriving, so stay positive, will be sending prayers your way x
@@katieburns4165 so your granddaughter was born at 28 weeks and was home 2 weeks later? I dont want to sound disrespectfull but that is not possible.
Pepper Oni oops that’s a typo i meant to put 6 weeks premature, how ever I will say this just because a baby is born prematurely doesn’t mean that they will have health problems, my friends baby was born 10 weeks premature and because he had no health issues and was already 4lbs when born once he reached 5lbs he was aloud home, maybe before you make judgmental comments you should consider that miracles DO happen
My three baby girl are born in 34 weeks
Do I need a c section if my baby is born under 37 weeks?
No
I started bleeding heavily in 23 weeks and doctor said that there's a damage in my water bag. So the level of watwr is less. And recommended to deliver @ 34 weeks. I am wondering that weather the baby can develop in side the womb with lower level of water?
34 weeks baby born its safe for baby?
