I lived in Indonesia and Thailand. They use shrimp paste as an ingredient in many dishes. But I remember eating young mango slices with salt and shrimp paste. And fried rice with shrimp paste, very tasty 😋
@@kyleledotnetyou pound with a stone pounder flat young mango slices on a mixture of salt and (rather dry) shrimp paste. The taste is a mixture of the fruity sour mango, salt and shrimp paste. This is in Indonesia.
Kyle, I really enjoyed the video as always. Thanks from the bottom of my heart to the both of you. God bless you both and enjoy yourselves here in Cali//
Bun dau mam tom is the best thing ever. Went to that same shop while I was in Hanoi couple of months ago. Understandably the mam tom is a little strong for southerners.
I tried this in Cao Bang and was so hesitant after seeing many videos of people eating mam tom. I loved it! I can understand that it's an acquired taste. I loved how you get a breath mint on top of your meal! A good warning! Lol
@@stonerduke the Cao Bang version was not that good to be honest, Hanoi is simply the best- way better ingredients, variety of organs, bigger portions (more expensive) and this alley is the best.
9:40 Kyle that’s a good thing anh that means your speaking is just as good as a normal southern Vietnamese person. Your right about the American accent in there, I’m worse than you anh but you definitely speak great
“ Hey” good morning Kyle, thank you again for a beautiful Vlog this beautiful Friday. Only four//4 more days until I arrive in., HCMC. T-2 5:P.M. God bless you and have a wonderful day today.
Kyle. I am enjoying this as much as one can. Like I mentioned before, I was always fascinated by Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and nearby countries...............and their ethnic groups too. I am so happy for you, the places you visit, the people you meet, and the food you eat. But the high temperatures and humidity would have surely killed me !!! Looking forward for more. Trinidad & Tobago. West Indies.
I’ve only ever had mắm tôm used as a flavoring in other things, never anything near “pure.” It’s one of the things I’m really looking forward to trying it when I visit in March!
Same as me, well for me it’s actually petal (stinky beans) and dog fruit (also a form of stinky beans). When I was young I refused to try it cause of the smell. But when I’m older omg I feel like I’ve wasted my whole life not eating them 😭 Btw I hope you and Chau are still keeping in contact! This duo travel series has been fantastic!

Yes, its impossible to try pure. I dont recommend eating it straight from the bottle...
@@kyleledotnet I don’t mean completely uncut. But this is still clearly the star of the show, not buried under the other ingredients.

Dang Kyle getting too famous… got some Hitters popping in. Very cool to see lily. And chau is always cute
Lily has been MIA from her other outlet. Imagine seeing her here, completely unexpected.
I refused to try when I was younger because I could NOT stand the smell. Maybe I'll suck it up now that I'm older and try it haha

I don't mind the taste, what I am concerned about is the process of making any type of Mam has a lot of germs in it.
Hanoi
Yesterday just eat with pork meat

Is this your gf?... She's a keeper.
Is that Kyle's girlfriend?

I am a 53 years old Viet who live in the Nor Cal. I left VN in 1981. I was repulsed by the smell of man-tom until last year. LOL. I can eat it now.
