This beat is so dope. As an east coast dude, I Remember when Crenshaw first came out. I played this One song back to back like 15 times. That was 11 years ago. Now my 4 year old son be in the whip, like “checc me out” 🥲
OMFG that be@t was simple af. But hard af!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mike & Keys and 1500 gave Nip his signature sound. RIP NIp The Motherf*&&& Great!!!!!!!
Damn I remember using Reason for a long time, and he's right, Reason is dope but you had to freak it to make it work with certain things. But it's a beast of a program. I use Ableton now but I will always respect Reason.
I’m not even exaggerating when I say I have an emotional connection to this song. I had heard Nipsey Hussle prior to this, but to be honest, I didn’t hear anything special about him AT FIRST. However, in 2013, I was working at Kia Motors factory and part of my job was to test drive the cars. I remember hearing this song on Shade 45 and I was INSTANTLY addicted. There was no Apple Music back then so I purchased the song on iTunes. And I played that song the entire way home after I got off work. Mind you I had a 45 minute ride home. So do the math on that. Lol three years later I bought my first brand new car fresh off the lot and the FIRST song I played when I drove off was “Checc Me Out”. I grew to be a HUGE Nipsey Hussle fan. But that song is the song that made me a fan of him.🏁🏁🏁🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Same. The horns on that beat make it sound so triumphant. Perfect album closer. Drums smack hard. We need a whole track-by-track breakdown for Victory Lap. The team of LA-based musicians killed both Victory Lap and To Pimp A Butterfly. There was some overlap between musicians who worked on both.
This was great. Really in depth background on the mechanics that went into this dope beat. Mike & Keys are very underrated. They shouldve had something in here discussing Dj Quik mixing this beat, which I believe was the only song completely mixed on that "Crenshaw" tape, a project that could still use a professional mix and master btw. You hear this song, sonically, alongside everything else on that tape, and you can hear the elevation here, where Dj Quik really brought those instruments and the drums to life. Cant waut to binge watch other videos in this series. Don Cannon's really got something here for music lovers.
As an artist as myself, I can definitely relate to that. Lol a lot of time the simple beats that producers make just speak to us more. Our vocals are the missing instrument. I don’t like super chaotic beats. At least not for myself. I feel like those type of beats are good for artists who make anthems. I am more of a lyricist, so I need something that breathes.😮💨
REASON FOREVER, THE DAW THAT' REVOLUTIONIZES EVERYTHING ,REASON GANG FORMULAING PLOTS TO CREATIVE SUCCESS IT'S JUST GOING TO GET BETTER AND BETTER FOR REASON
I was literally just thinking about this beat and that Bass sound , it’s the same bass in Big Krit’s “ Money on the Floor”… I’ve been looking for this sound SINCE 2012. Glad to know where it comes from finally. 🔥🔥🔥
I know exactly what they’re talking about with reason back then lol one of my best friends put me on to reason 4, and it absolutely didn’t have audio or outside vst capabilities.
Bruh.. reason was the struggle. I used reason 5 back in the day. It has great sounds but yoh the work flow was murder. I eventually switched to studio one when it first came out. Now I am using ableton. Its so easy. Anybody can use it.
My God I remember being in Afghanistan and watching LA Leakers when Nip and Dom was up there and they dropped that shit for the first time 🤯🤯🤯. 2008-2014 was legendary times 🏁
Fuck a highlight let’s make highlights in rap history! (Yall should know I don’t give a fuck how people perceive my approach to whatever I do. Not saying alighted this but in general) Most people don’t even like their own perception of themselves, if that’s why I been getting dissed can I get a piss off, respectfully? I don’t take no’s for an answer, but we both know that’s not what’s best, especially looking at where the state of the culture is.
Mannnnn that Crenshaw album got me through a year of Afghanistan when I was deployed. Checc me out was in rotation every day !!!!
Blessings dawg! 🎉
Facts this album Got me thru a lot..
I bet that hazard duty was nice

they need to release a drum kit with all the nip sounds
true!
I think they have 2 drums kits
@A_Class216 where are they?
@@rashadparker2445 it was on their website. They wanted like $40+ for the kits
Man listen, chopping vocals/acapellas into Reason without audio was tough. But it made me stronger!
it makes you get more creative with it
I wasnt ready for all the memories of all the sessions I had and using Reason to come flooding back in. Tears of joy.
One of my favorite tracks by these guys is "for the record" by Buddy
