I have a Gazelle T4 just like the orange one in this video. I was caught in a summer squall once and was literally standing in the middle of up and kept popping the sides back out. Even thought I had everything tied down and all that they still were popping in. The winds were so bad, so fast, and so scary. It hit around 2 am woke me from a dead sleep. But she held up and no rips or anything.
Man, scary stuff! Reminds me of a camping trip I was on back in 2014. Horrible storm in the boundary waters up in Canada, knocked down tons of pine trees all over our tents, a couple trees hit people! We counted 44 trees down in our campsite in the middle of nowhere probably half the size of a football field. Very lucky we all made it! Closest town to us clocked wind speeds over 100 mph!
Happened to me in Arkansas, tried to suck me and the tent up about 11:30pm,ask God to get rid of the tornado but that I was fine with the rain, God is always good 👍 😊
What an awesome trip. Thanks for videoing everything you did. You sacrificed your life for us!! 😅 Glad you made it out 😂 You should know better living so close to the gulf coast 🤣 The police chase is the cherry on top!
Way to keep calm and keep videoing, and most of all not yelling 😂 Glad yall made it safe and unharmed. Looked more like a derecho but if a tornado was confirmed then that’s what it was.
Been through two of those, and like you, learned after the fact. Once road it out in my vehicle the other I was in a primitive tent. Both were within a mile of me. Crazy video.
Glad yall are safe man..God was with y'all for sure...insaine video ...police chase..nader and bass... Heck of a video man..glad y'all are safe again...
Similar thing happened to me, camping on South Galveston Island Beach. Lost the tent, inflatable kayak, and "Pop-Up", when a waterspout came across the Island...! I got UNDER my truck, and afraid it was going to "leave" me! Lol... Great "Weather" video, by the way...
I have a Gazelle and was in a really bad storm. I had put the guylines in on 2 of the sides and the one facing the wind kept blowing in. Once I went out and tied the other 2 sides in I had no problems at all. I will never take that for granted again. I slept through the rest of the storm with no problem. The campground where I was had RVs and cabins. Everyone wanted to know how we made out in the storm. Myself and my friend both had Gazelles and we slept well and had no issues.
Wow! You lived through my worst nightmare. I cant believe the tents are still there! You were cery lucky. We were camping on lake in Texas Memorial weekend when a tornado came through a few miles north of us, killed 5 people. Then just hours later, we got a sudden straight line wind and rainstorm hitting us from the back of our fifth wheel across the water. Terrifying! And when we got home, we had so much tree damage! Count your Blessings!
There is something about Lake Huntersville and storms. About 30 years ago I went camping with my cousin and his family. One day, he went out in the boat with his wife and left me with their kids. We were swimming and it started lightning and thundering. One of worst storms I have ever been in hit us. The 13 year old went into a panic attack, the three year old lost it and it was me and a ten year old boy that tried to keep everything together. The tent collapsed, we had no keys, so we sat in the car, which I was told afterwards that was a dangerous thing to do. Where else were we going to?? Our last resort was the picnic table. We caught a five gallon bucket of bream that day afterwards. You could drop a blank hook in the water and a fish would grab it.
I lived in AL for years. The only thing worse than the oppressive heat was the constant sleeping in the hallway because of tornadoes. Looked like it wasn’t too far from you. Also, the manufacturers of those tents should use this footage as an advert, especially the orange tent 😂
Wow you bring new meaning to adventures in camping. That was terrifying, I'm so glad you and your friends were not hurt! Thanks for sharing this video!
Dude, sweet truck build!!! I’ve camped right by that spot many times. My parents own property very near where you were camping and it was also insane down the road where that tiktok was filmed. There were around 200 or so trees down by their road and a couple of other houses under construction got destroyed. They didn’t have any property damage thankfully. So glad you guys made it okay this is insane!
That was crazy.glad you guys are okay. Can't believe you just stayed to hold down the gazeboo no, no,no. I would of run to truck, but hall held it down Impressive
I live in Scottsboro and work in Guntersville, and it is becoming more and more difficult to find good camping sites without having to pay for it or it being crowded. Y'all took a whoopen in that mess! Glad y'all made it through that safely, our weather is impossible to accurately predict.
If this was a couple weeks ago, we had a hell of a gust front come through Clay County. No rotation here, but one of the stronger I've seen in a long time. And lasted long than most. Lots of trees down here. Our power was out in Ashland for 8 hrs, which is extremely rare in town. And I have been in those situations before many times. Unfortunately, many of mine were in or near forests with being there not an option. Stay safe.
Pretty sketchy situation but at that point you have to make a split second decision to stay and hunker down or let everything go. Your kayak took a beating on the rocks thankfully it was only the wrap that took on damage. Happened to us in OH and it will make you pucker up real quick. Great video, hopefully the next one is a bunch of fish and maybe a PR.
Yikes!! Glad ya'll were Safe! I thought you might have to head for the bathhouse. You have a Great set up and Beautiful spot. So peaceful in the morning. You made me hungry too! 😋
Want to add, not here to nitpick. I got linked this video by a friend asking if you’d really been through a tornado and such given the tents stayed up and the only real damage was the trees. I subscribed after watching this video because I like the type of content you make.
8:00 this came up out of nowhere...... Me: wait a second you said the weather app told you and you been monitoring outside watching it for a while......😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 would be awesome to watch the movie TWISTERS during storm 😂😂😂
. I live in pensacola about 30 minutes from Alabama. 1. U know the Lord done whispered in your ear when a tree falls exactly where u were going to park. 2. We go fishing right after bad storms cuz you know thats the best time to catch a mess of em. God bless yall
Didn't look like a tornado, looked like a microburst with about 70 mph straight line winds, didn't see any rotation. If someone official confirmed that it was a tornado then I will take your word for it... but I think that you would have seen a lot more damage
Absolutely crazy experience, luckily no-one hurt! Your truck is awesome! Really enjoying all your vids - really great content and i am using them to build my own stuff, one being a trailer that can take my little bass hunter with a trailer tent etc!
Yea that was crazy. Can you imagine being out in the middle of the lake. Stuck in the kayak. Crazy.. ohh and yea man you got a nice set up. From the taco, the roof top tent and kayak set up..
That’s a scud. There’s absolutely no rotation within that area. It’s essentially a “scary ass looking cloud”. It’s hard to tell without a clear view and a few moments to watch without camera panning, but I would be looking for rotation around 8:20 in the clouds behind that gap between the thicke tree brush, closer to the water. That section is more concerning and would be most likely to develop a funnel. Given the proximity to water, it would be a waterspout (which can still do up to EF1 damage).
Scary stuff! We were camping last march here in Texas and got caught in a storm with baseball size hail! Luckily we had rented a campsite with a shelter because if we were in a tent we would have been in trouble!
Hey man I’m a new subscriber first off lol. I have been camping on lake gunnerville as my sister lives in Huntsville. We love that place. Glad to see y’all were unharmed in the bad weather. Looking forward to seeing your videos and looking forward to future ones. As always safe travels man
@@KayakUSA1hey man I’ve been watching your videos and while I’m not a fishing kayak enthusiast, I enjoy your Tacoma content. How did you get comfortable filming especially while installs? Wearing a go pro type mount for hands free seem the easiest. Thanks
You can see the bathhouse in the video-not to mention there are multiple bath houses along the lake at town creek campground right where you are. So to say you had nowhere to go is a bit misleading. You could have gone into any of the bath houses.
A friend and I was hit by a hurricane when camping in a small pop tent we had. To tie. The. Tent to the car and spent the night in the car it was so scary.
Do you not have a weather app? I'm whether obsessed so if I were to go out camping I'd be looking at what was coming or possibly coming.. made for a great video.. Glad you're all okay.
Not sure where you guys were camping thought it was Alabama but there hasn’t been any tornadoes in that area since 2011. Can’t check the database so can’t say for sure what you guys were in beyond a strong squall line. EF0 to a weak EF1 could’ve caused the trees to snap and come down, but there wasn’t much damage to anything else in the vicinity to give the impression it was a tornado (I’m paused at 15:48 so if you update at the end of the vid, I haven’t seen it yet). I’ve chased 20+ years and do ground surveys after tornadoes where I am, if anyone’s thinking I’m just sitting here pulling things outta my arse lol. Good rule of thumb especially if you’re in a spot known for tornadoes: when a storm comes in and looks nasty? Get shelter. That bathroom (or whatever the building was behind where you camped) was the safest spot. Being under your trucks or even in them, would do nothing if they went airborne or had debris pierce them. Metal plumbing strengthens the walls of bathrooms, hence why they’re the best place to go in absense of a storm shelter, basement or interior room. I’ve survived two tornadoes (EF2 and EF3 respectively) in cinderblock loos at public parks when they came in without much warning and no sirens went off. Car was gone in the second tornado, so had I been in it, I would be too. Always good to err on the side of caution. Your tent, kayak etc can be replaced. You and your friend’s lives can’t.
EDIT: Replying to myself but quoting an article that references the NWS survey I found for the area (in case anyone is curious) - it was a microburst. “The National Weather Service (NWS) in Huntsville traveled to Marshall County Saturday morning to survey storm damage associated with Friday’s storms. Marshall County Emergency Management Agency Director Blake Farmer said along with downed powerlines, power poles, and trees two homes that were under construction sustained damage. Farmer also added that three boathouses were flattened by the strong winds. After surveying all the damage the NWS confirmed a microburst, producing peak winds of 95 mph, was a result of the line of severe storms. They determined that the microburst began over the northern branch of Lake Guntersville and then surged eastward. The powerful winds uprooted and snapped trees along HWY 431 from Cooper Hill Road to Lucas Gap Road. The path of the microburst was around four and a half miles.” So… what is a microburst, right? In short: it’s a localized column of sinking air (downdraft) within a thunderstorm and is usually less than or equal to 2.5 miles in diameter. Extremely strong thunderstorms require extremely strong updraft winds to keep going. Updraft winds are the winds entering into a thunderstorm. During a downburst, the updraft winds weaken, causing wind and rain to surge toward the ground and spread out in all directions. A downburst is classified by size and is called either a microburst or a macroburst. A microburst is when the downburst is 2.5 miles wide or less. A macroburst is when the downburst is greater than 2.5 miles wide. Whether the downbursts are micro or macro, they can cause much damage from the high winds crashing to the ground. Sometimes, the damage can be comparable to a low-end tornado - wind speeds in microbursts can reach up to 100 mph, or even higher, which is equivalent to (but NOT a) an EF-1 tornado. The damage from a downburst can consist of major structural damage to leveled trees.
