would love to see more detail on the safety wire and pin and how you secured it.

You should grind off the upset portion of the threads so the caliper fits flat against the bracket. Look up "RN65 Brake mod" and read the first page only...

Thanks for sharing. Did this same mod a couple of weeks ago - your videos made it pretty simple for me.
Side note: I was cruising down Sams Valley Hwy the other day (from Crater Lake heading to Brookings). Passed Triple Tree and saw a nice tan KLR. You?

Thanks for the great brake upgrade info/videos. What pads are you using on the SV 650 cali? I have everything on order minus the pads.. Thanks!

When I break hard on my klr I usually go into a skid. I don't see that better break's would change that?

Uhm does the second gen klr not fit??? why didnt you just use the 2 piston from the klr this is to much work and hack. im not bashing i just want to understand

Because this is a hell of a lot better set up than the Gen 2 caliper. Pads are much better, overall quality is better than stock Gen 2 stuff. Capiche>? Besides, the Gen 2 isn't a bolt on affair either, so why not go with a superior caliper? If this is too much work, you don't need to be working on a bike.

What should I know if I'm a total newbie and want to replace the rotors ? Can I buy any 320mm rotor or should I use some kind of adapter so that it'll fit a pre-08 KLR 650 ?

If you have a gen 1 you'll need adapter. Many come as a package

Did you use the KLR brake line on the SV caliper?

How many parts from the GEN 2 bikes will fit on the GEN 1 bikes? will the rear shock fit? what else fits?

Shocks swap back and forth, lower bolts are only difference.

are there certain years of the SV caliper that will work and others that will not? A year range for those that will work? I have a gen 1 KLR. Thanks.
