It's interesting to see in your speech "I'm not saying that..."; "I'm not criticizing". We have come to a moment in our society when we not only have to be careful with our words due to possible misinterpretations, but we also have to specifically demonstrate what we actually mean with virtually anything we say. Due to this growing movement against the male figure, most men (and women) are affraid to be who they are, fearing to be criticised and fingers pointed at them for something inexistent. Instead of evolving, we are going back again. Every little word can be turned against us, and formulating negative meanings that were not even there, just to be used against people. There seems to be a growing generation of people who want to be seen as saviours and bringers of justice and righteousness, so they need to criticize in order to have their "values" approved and to have the illusion that they are contributing to a better world. But in truth, they are not helping at all. Instead of trying to solve the existing problems, they are just creating more problems that did not exist before. So, thank you very much for this video. I'm sure someone, somewhere, will twist your positive speech and invert the meaning, but hopefully the great majority of people understood your message.
I'm a new subscriber and really enjoy watching these vids. It's encouraged me to get back in the wilderness and enjoy being on this great earth, with positive attitude! Perth, Western Australia.
If anyone wants to be enlightened further as to not just what is happening but why, please go find a copy of 'culture of critique' and read it cover to cover. We are under a psychological attack. It's important to know who is doing it so we can end it.
It happens to the best of us. It's life. Just this morning I was walking around camp trying to make breakfast and I stepped on the pot stand for my homemade stove. I had to improvise one because it would've taken too long to fix the other before the fire died. Nobody on this earth is perfect and that's the way it should be.
Exactly. Feels like first time I see a human being on UA-cam. Most people start every video with the same 5 generic sentences, then have 500 jump cuts, and ending with the same generic stuff about subscribing, clicking the bell icon etc. This channel is real.
that made it interesting, I was surprised he didn't start swearing, but his disappointment at losing his drink, you could see how mad he was with himself
Three things I take from this video: 1) Grow a beard (Already done that!) 2) Eat a bacon sandwich (will do that!) 3) Don't sit on your kuksa! (I'll try not to do that!)
As a 60 year old woman, with lots of estrogen depletion, I am capable of growing quit a few whiskers. But I don't think I want to celebrate that part of womanhood LOL!
Sorry i can't take part in your challenge Bjorn since i'm already celebrating my manhood for 17 years when i last used a razor. Cook your bacon just the crunchy way you like it Bjorn, all you other guys can have it softer if you wish. Just never tell a man how to cook his own bacon.
My son's are growing out their hair and beards. My eldest already looks like a Viking warrior thanks to his size, his shoulder length reddish brown hair and full beard, and his Irish heritage. I'm proud of my boys. No SJW hipster snowflakes in my house. =) I've raised them as good, moral, compassionate, southern gentlemen with strong character. I hope and pray I've done a good job as a single mom. My Dad did his best as a father figure, and he was always a pretty good role model.
I suggested my husband grow a beard when I met him in college. He had a little goatee. I said, “why not just grow a full beard?” This was before they became trendy. He’s had it ever since. I love beards on men.
Makes me truly sad that their aren’t more men like you! My heart will rest one day in the arms of Grown MAN, who takes command of his life!!!! Blessings!
That’s a good woman. Don’t settle for the soy boys lol. Find a real man. Cherish him. Never let him go. ❤️🦁🙏👍 Lord knows we are seeking a true woman as well.
Seriously drop the soy boy shit. If you drink animal milk, you get WAY more estrogen than someone drinking the milk from a bean. Humans aren’t made to drink milk as adults, especially from other animals. Real men lay off the mother’s tit and get their nutrients from real food. @Kate, good luck! That’s the goal of any good woman.
When I'm in a combat-zone, that be Bosnia, Iraq og Afghanistan, I always have grown a beard. Back home I dont need to act extra-masculine, nor do I need to act any other way. To emphazise that I'm back home, away from combat, I shave. I'm pretty relaxed with myself and my top priority is being as good a father as I'm capable of. If I start growing a beard, you know I'm going Viking !
Thanks for talking about men and masculinity in a positive way! this is needed so much, especially with boys. I have the BEARD, but need an amazing bacon sandwich!
I began growing out my beard about a month before finding your channel. I've never felt more like I was looking at the true me in the mirror. On a different note, I'm extremely grateful to have found your videos.🙏🏼
I have aways grown a beard. And love your videos on finding peace in my soul. Love the Viking belief system. I moved from Iowa where I was apart of nature. But moved to Florida. Where people don't care about anything. Trying to find peace through my Viking belief. Thank you. Thomas Berger
My husband and I really enjoy your videos and just subscribed. Thank you for standing for real men and the traditional roles that God gave both men and women...and the deep fulfilment and satisfaction that they bring.
Thank you for this amazing video. You are a manly man ! Here in America they are trying to erase the differences between men and women. There are many confused young men trying to be girls ! Please keep on trying to educate boys on how to become real men ! Thank you for setting a good example.
I have not been clean shaven since I got out of the military in 2011. I am lucky to have a woman that loves... really, really loves masculinity. Your words, and videos are always great Bjorn.
I'm so pleased you posted this issue of Masculinity. In America, it is "Grow a Beard" in the month of November. Even my Doctor friends grow a beard. There is also an issue here were the Sylvester Stallone "Rocky" type man is considered TOO brutal. Also, long hair on Men is more prevalent today. Many Actors and Models are growing out their hair, which I believe is Masculine. I've loved long hair on men since the 80's. Subsequently, I'm tired of seeing so many commercials with wimpy, dorky, scrawny men. My 3-brothers are not like that at all, nor my Viking male relatives, still living and those who have passed away. I'm not saying a man should act like a caveman but it's only my opinion, no offense against anyone. You can be a strong, protective male but also know how to conduct yourself, in front of Woman, Wives, Female Family and colleagues. My one saying; " Man up, damnit!"
I like the phrase "fortify" since "man up" has been attached to far too many non-healthy ideas of masculinity... but then I'm a gamer geek, been playing D&D since 1981, lol, and "fortitude" helps you save vs. threats to your good health (which in my mind includes mental & emotional & cultural as well as physical issues). Men come in all shapes & sizes, and all have validity--I loved the way the movie Moana showed the big burly guys, the little skinny guys, guys in between, and they never once made fun of the others' shapes. I hang out in the SCA (medieval society), and I see all body types having fun doing all sorts of activities But I do agree, too many of one body type being portrayed as "the ideal" in modern culture just isn't realistic, and in fact is flat-out annoying. Give me the skinny little guys, the big burly fellas, I wanna see everyone happy, or at least happier. (Can't be happy all the time, since that's not healthy either...but there are enough troubles in the world, we don't need to add artificial problems, like lack of representation, or bullying because of that lack, or negative expressions towards men for being good men but not "the ideal(ized)" version.
@@vandal1905Thanks! I have too many friends of all shapes and sizes, too tall, too short, too skinny, too fat, too...no, no, no. We are not "too" anything. We're not meant to be cookie cutter people, identially matched to either side. From the embracing of diversity comes strength, innovation, creativity, open-mindedness, and rapid advancements because it fosters the sharing of ideas and improvements upon those ides. IF we can bring ourselves to see it as a positive, that is, rather than allow ourselves to be conditioned to hate anything "other"...which is a trick of abusive sorts. If we hate and fear "others" then we'll waste energy fighting them instead of getting out from under the control of abusers. However, if we accept each other, we bond together, and become stronger than our abusers. (Something abusers fear deeply is no longer having power over their targets.) So celebrate different body shapes, types, etc. The only thing to be rejected is intolerance, but the discussion of the Paradox of Intolerance is its own topic entirely. This is about embracing who you are, and who you want to be...such as growing a glorious beard (or not)...and accepting this right in others, too.
I have had a beard since I was 19, I'm now 44 and have no intention of shaving. I also will never let anyone define who I am or how I should be. Full support from me in Northern Scotland. 👍
Well I accept your challenge. Only thing is I've had a full beard since 1977. But I was raised to respect others, help when you can, give the shirt off your back an throw in a few more just because. Raised my son the same way. My grandkids are the same way. And I tell them never expect to get paid for your kindness a simple thank you is all that is needed. Love your videos.
Indeed as a wife and mother I cannot agree more! Masculinity is not the bad thing the media and certain commercials portray it as. Thank you for the video and for sharing your knowledge with the men. Have a good week to you and family Bjorn.
Yes. Exactly. I quit shaving years and years ago. Men deserve basic respect. Cultivate masculinity and strength... not doubt, and weakness. With you, Wild Brother!
I have been growing my beard for a few years, off and on, but a female friend told me to never shave again. Love your video, sharing it with my bearded friends.
Great message! I already started growing mine out from a goatee back in October when I went on a trip to the mountains. I like having a beard in part because I feel like it helps me be a bit more in touch with my (partial) Norwegian/Norse ancestry. However, more recently, in light of new anti-masculinity messages being promoted, I've begun to feel like my beard helps stick up for my masculinity. I've never really felt a need to defend my maleness, but apparently we now live in pretty ridiculous and "toxic" times! BTW, I love your wooden cooking tongs!
I've loved Bjorn's videos since the day I found them, for the content. But I want to pause just to say the production values are great and make it that much more alluring to listen to the messages. It transports me.
I grow mine all month but I'm military. I have to shave now because I'm finishing out my career in military in national guard . I have paperwork in motion now because the American army now recognizes Norse pagan as a real religion so of it is approved I can keep my beard year round.
I always hated having to shave for respirator whilst welding. But when I can I sure as hell love to see the only part of my head turn luxurious. Lush and rampant beards rock.
Love your channel man. Thanks for all the good content. I grow a very thick beard, but recently shaved it off because it gets very hot in the summer where I live. I kept the goatee and mustache. The longest I ever grew my beard was the time i didnt shave for 2 years. I could grab it with both hands, one over top of the other and it hung about 3 or 4 inches out of the bottom of my lower most fist. Just about even with my mid chest area. Every beard has a maximum terminal length which means it will only grow to a certain point and no longer than that. There are only a few types of people that this doesn't apply to. People who carry Germanic and Scandinavian genetics are very often excluded from this. Many of these men's beards will continue to grow longer and longer with no stopping point. I saw a German man who had a beard so long he had to throw it over his shoulders to keep from stepping on it. I am not sure exactly where my maximum terminal length stops at, but I would say approximately 12 inches when braided, 8 inches when loose. I had 2 big beard dreadlocks once, to go with the ones on the top of my head. I looked very much like a pirate. My nickname at work was Blackbeard. My woman didn't find it to be very appealing so I cut the beard dreads off and gave them to her as a present. I live in the southeastern part of the United States. Beards are very popular here. I think you will find more men here who have long thick beards as opposed to mens men who shave their whole face. Beards here are also considered to be a sign of masculinity. We have a whole month dedicated to not shaving. It is called No Shave November. I'm not sure how it started or what it is for, but I'm glad that it exists. In my opinion to shave your whole face is a mild and temporary form of castration. I once almost lost a job because I refused to shave. They said it was a safety hazard because it prevented my protective respirator from making an airtight seal around my face. I told them I didn't care and went on about my work as though they had never spoken. I refuse to take orders from any man who carries a ladies purse. I said so and he tried to say it was something called a "manbag". I never heard of a "manbag" before. I think he was making that up. I can recognise a ladies purse when I see one. I don't understand men like this. Men who think like women think. Perhaps they had no fathers in their lives, and they had to learn what it is to be a man from their mothers. A woman can't teach a boy to be a man. She can however teach a boy to think as a woman thinks. This is why some men are very ifeminate. It is very sad. These men will walk through life a beta male who falsely believes himself to be an alpha. Only a man can teach a boy what it means to be a man. More often than not women make decisions based on emotion. An alpha male more often than not will make decisions based on cold hard logic. The breakdown of a society begins with the breakdown of the family unit. The traditional model of man, women, and child as a family is the corner stone and pillar that holds our society up. When that is attacked and destroyed societies begin to crumble. To understand the nature of our creator one simply needs to walk off into the woods and observe nature. Nature is a reflection of the true nature of God. God bless you and your family and keep you safe.
I have just find your channel and I love it .Your voice is so calm and your personality is amazing ...a real viking .I'm from Norway too and I see myself as a "Norwegian Goddess" ..Just as you say for men and men's mental healt and to be proud beeing a man ..you nail it...and you have a beautiful beard too 😊😊 Thank you your awsome channel.
I've had my beard for s long time and still get alot of people telling me to shave it off, even other men! I like it and my wife likes it, dont care what any others think. I'm headed to the store now for some bacon...lol...thanks my friend!
I want to say thank you. When I first saw this video i didn't grew my beard, but now i did. I have it probably about a month and even if it looks ridiculous and like first stronger wind will take it away I am proud of it. It gave me so much comfidence and happiness. So once again, thank you.
I'm so happy I stumbled on this video accidentally, it was so relaxing and slow paced with a simple message. At this day and age when UA-cam is cluttered with fast videos and booming music trying to desperately grab your attention, it's so refreshing watching someone taking time to just slowly prepare a fire and make an outdoors bacon sandwich before getting to his main point, instead of instantly starting a video with as many jumpcuts as possible. Thank you so much! You got my sub.
There 2 kinds of people that do not have beards; women and children, of which i am neither. I am totally down with you man.. very cool, very encouraging, J
Alas, I cannot grow a beard. My father assured me when I was a young man that eventually it would fill it. Decades later I've accepted I shall never have chops, a mustache, a goatee, or any facial hair of note. Oh, I have some. Some here, some there.
Some men simply are not able to grow beards. Some native Americans can't grow facial hair at all and others only sparsely for instance. The ability to grow a beard does not make you a man. There are many soy-boy hipsters out there with beards. Subordinating emotion to logic and reason, the ability to use aggressive instincts to constructive ends, being innovative, cultivating important/useful skills, having integrity, and optimizing your self-reliance, are the kinds of things (among others) that makes a man.
Five years ago, this video inspired me to grow my beard for the first time and I’ve sported one ever since and plan to never shave it off. Thank you Bjorn
Bjorn, Great Video. That odd device is a Grill and it is useful for cooking things like Meat and Fish over the Fire. I never have liked them for cooking in a Pot or Pan. Cook your Bacon any way you like. I like mine a little more done than not so it has a tougher texture when you bite it. (I don't like eating Rubber.) That Sandwich looked great by the way. As for the Beard. I can't have one because of the regulations where I work. (Health Care Facility.) Now about the idea of Toxic Masculinity and those pushing it. They all seem to be people who live in Cities and have never had to do Physical Labor of any kind just to get by. They are pampered. They need to get outdoors and do things that will push them to their limits, then they will change their minds.
I love the time you put in to this, to enjoy the whole video not like others who go directly in to the point, im a young man and i never had a reference about how to grow up so im learning a lot from you.
I agree with you on this subject. for some reason being a man has turned into being something evil. I am a man who has raised my boys to be strong men and respectful men. Yep I have my beard
I was literally just sitting here thinking of shaving off my beard tonight (just to start over, refresh... it grows back), and this video shows up in my recommendations. It's true that "they" are watching and listening!!!
Totally agree with what you said about men being men . Many years ago I was working for a local authority in London as a gardener in a gang , or team . Occasionally we would be waiting for a piece of equipment to start a job and the men would start to talk about men’s interests you might say ! It was so funny I would have to turn away and sometimes walk away ! But we cannot deny what we are . When a group of women are together they are just as bad .
Lmao I consider myself masculine; just without any toxicity and I have little to no problems. I selflessly lift others up not down, kindness is free. Use it. This comment thread sounds rather negative and pessimistic, I'd just say adapt and respect others. Don't worry about the madness. Just don't be judgmental and just be rather neutral with it all. Then you will have peace. I do have problems with the way the world is going; but it's important to not take that too seriously. Perhaps then again i am just taking your joke too seriously perhaps.
Bjorn, I envy your beard. I accept your challenge to grow out the whiskers on my chin! And hope one day mine will look something like yours. Also, the 'device' is called a grill in english :)
👍👍Nail on the head again , you are diplomatic in the way you put issues forward ,may the Gods bless you Brorn 👍👍👍😉🍺🥓cook your bacon the way it happens 👍👍my beard like my b😊lls unshaved
When I got badly hurt my viking red beard turned white in 3 months. I shave and get my haircut every 2 years now. My hair goes to cancer and the beard no one seems to want, LOL. I love a simple bacon sandwich. Easy good/ power getting in there eh. I hope your butt didn't get too wet there. Nothing ruder than a wet butt eh.Staying mentally strong is so very important. I am physically weak from many injuries but very strong in my mind and actions. Without that I would be lost. Wonderful to see you again my fine friend.
Thanks for chiming in (hope I spelled that correctly)! I have heard about that, the beard turning white very quickly. But a white beard is very elegant!
@@BjornAndreasBull-Hansen Well thank you my friend. I am 62 with blond hair, blue eyes and the white beard. Quite the combo eh, LOL. The injuries that I have endured are formidable. 75 major surgeries now and a few more to come getting knees, and hips rebuilt again. I suffer from chronic pain and have found the bush to be one of the best pain killers available. Simple and real. I always appreciate when you get back to me. It must be hard with your channel numbers being so high to choose who to relate with. I am honored to be one of them.Take care and have a great week my FRIEND !
"No shave November" was just criticized by a female on the radio; great time to see your Video again. Men choose between: mustache, goatee, full beards... shaving is fine for the girls
I have just recently started watching your videos and your an awesome man Bjorn I am 28 years old and I live in Virginia in America and I have three kids a wife and a follower of the old Norse religion converted from Christianity best move i ever made I'm more at peace than i have ever been. Been growing my beard for a year now it around 7 inches long so far
Thank you for mentioning women as well! As a woman in her 20's I was wondering if this video would be for me, at all. Of course it's mostly for the guys, which is totally fine and not more than expected, it was just nice to get a mention for the girls as well. So I wanted to thank you for that. :) I should've know, since you seem like a sensible person. I like that you make videos about men's mental health. It's a very important topic. I hope they help some men become more.. calm? certain? in themselves. I hope it helps someone, is what I'm trying to say. On the topic of femininity vs masculinity, I don't think there's a "versus" there at all. (Not sure what you think.) I think every person has (and should have) both sides to them. I think men should be allowed to be strong-willed (considered a masculine trait) but also be allowed to show emotions and for example cry (considered feminine). Women should be allowed to show empathy and a want to take care of things (considered feminine) and also be allowed to be tough and violent (but only consensual of course! I'm talking about for example martial arts. I myself train sword-fighting.) Basically what it boils down to is I think masculinity-femininity is something everyone has inside of them, and it's on a scale that can vary from person to person or even from day to day for the same person. And everyone should be allowed to be the way that they are. (I'll stop here now to not make my comment too long. I could write about this for pages..)
Yes, well said. I think the idea of a non-crying man is a very modern concept. Men would be tough as nails and there would also be no shame in crying. We tend to look at ourselves through a post-industrial Christian lense.
The whole "toxic masculinity" thing has gone too far. There are of course make behaviors that are not acceptable ie. Cat calling women, inappropriate touching, intimidating others to make them feel inferior, bullying. Of course the same can be said of some women's behavior as well. They too can make men feel uncomfortable, unwanted, like they aren't good enough. I dealt with bullying in elementary school and it came from everyone, not just the boys. The lesson we need to learn as that there are acceptable behavior and unacceptable behavior and it applies to all genders. Men can be masculine without being brutal, hateful, sexist pigs. I enjoy hunting, fishing, camping. I have a beard. I also grew up knowing that men should never hit a female, don't disrespect women, or any other person for that matter, respect your elders. In short, be a gentleman. You can be masculine and be a gentleman. Why has society forgot about?
Already got my beard going and growing my hair back out to combat this antimasculinity wave going on keep up the good work Bjorn I love your videos brother!
Thank you for not making this about 'that' ad. As a growing influencer on UA-cam, it's important that you choose your statements carefully. I already have a beard. Masculinity can be cherished and there are many admirable aspects to traditional masculinity and unfortunately, people don't seem to grasp the definition of 'toxic masculinity'. Yes, there are those sects that have an issue with the male identity, but I don't think that represents society as a whole. At any rate, this would make for interesting discourse around a fire. Thanks again for not polarising you opinion.
The term 'toxic masculinity' doesn't need to be a grasped because its definition is inherently redundant and frankly ignorant. Toxic behaviours are already well-defined, such as segregation due to gender, irrational beliefs in gender superiority that has no biological/scientific support to prove it, tunnel vision on what a 'man' and a 'woman' should always be and that they can only be that, etc... What people define as toxic masculinity is nothing more than a frankly disgusting way of attempting to attribute blame to the male gender when traits often perceived as masculine traits get males in problems and that those traits are a problem when taken to the extreme by the male gender only.
Gretting from America I love your videos you help me reconnect as a man,I wander and explore nature,I cook food on open fire and I feel very good about it all
Thanks for this video. Men and women are naturally different and there’s nothing wrong with that. Men should be proud to be men and women should be proud to be women.
Nailed it. Everyone should just be proud of who they are. If you are not proud of who you are, then make it so you can be.

Hey Kate.
My beard came with my growing 3 children, the growing responsibilities and the settled duties. A Beard alone makes no man.
Well said!
Same here with my kids, my hair has left me now but my beard is stronger than ever! Lol
I generally like clean shaved more. But, thankful for your videos anyways. There's always a lot to learn from you and it's joyful to watch.
Thanks for talking about men and masculinity in a positive way! this is needed so much, especially with boys. I have the BEARD, but need an amazing bacon sandwich!
Thanks, Steve! I will make you a bacon sandwich one day!

That Bacon sandwich looks good. I haven't shaved my face in about a half dozen years, and don't plan on shaving any time soon. Masculinity is good!
I began growing out my beard about a month before finding your channel.
I've never felt more like I was looking at the true me in the mirror.

As a bearded man I do appreciate this video so much. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos :)
My husband and I really enjoy your videos and just subscribed.
Thank you for standing for real men and the traditional roles that God gave both men and women...and the deep fulfilment and satisfaction that they bring.

Words to live by
Thank you for this amazing video.
Saw this in October last year. Grew out my beard. Really needed it. Stress is down, confidence is up, and it looks great too.
Thank you.
'Movember' was started in Australia and is meant to raise awareness and raise funds for prostate cancer awareness.
@@ladyofthemasque Thanks for having a healthy take on things.
@@ladyofthemasque Another insightful response. Thank you, you're delightful :)
Thanks. That upbringing is what I call training a boy to be a real man. So, as a real man, you deserve to grow your beard out!
Thanks, brother!
Saw this video 6 months ago and decided to grow out my beard for the first time, it’s like a masculine badge of honour on my face
Im 21 and having a beard makes me feel like myselfe. Dont care most young ladies dont like it here. I will find the right one someday
Just started growing my own and it feels rewarding. Keep it going bro!
Let the ones who are not worthy go somewhere else. You will find a woman who is worthy of you.
I've wondered about this, and considered putting in the request myself, did you manage to get it approved?
No one cares, unfortunately. Christians and Jews are forced to shave as well and the beard is a glorious gift from God.
I always hated having to shave for respirator whilst welding. But when I can I sure as hell love to see the only part of my head turn luxurious. Lush and rampant beards rock.
I don’t get why they make you shave? Military’s have let soldiers grow beards in the past
@@charlessmith9198 in case of chemical warfare... beards interfere with the gas masks. (at least thats what my buddy who is in the army told me).

Now about the idea of Toxic Masculinity and those pushing it. They all seem to be people who live in Cities and have never had to do Physical Labor of any kind just to get by. They are pampered.

Are we even allowed to celebrate masculinity in Canada? Or has that been outlawed yet?
@Bornaking Just give Justin Trudeau a little more time and he'll make being masculine illegal.

Madame Trudeau Trudeau will make it illegal soon enough.

I myself train sword-fighting.)
Basically what it boils down to is I think masculinity-femininity is something everyone has inside of them, and it's on a scale that can vary from person to person or even from day to day for the same person. And everyone should be allowed to be the way that they are.
(I'll stop here now to not make my comment too long. I could write about this for pages..)
Ataume - Well said
Yes, well said. I think the idea of a non-crying man is a very modern concept. Men would be tough as nails and there would also be no shame in crying. We tend to look at ourselves through a post-industrial Christian lense.

Veronica,This Is why we grow our beards . Thanks.
Agreed Bjorn keep up the good work. No more oversensitivety.
Thank you, Andrew!
You hit the nail on the head Sir. It's time for Men to start doing Manly things again it's good for the spirit and the soul!
