To be fair, I was on a high profile job, and we had the road closures, police multiple fire trucks, our trucks were parked whilly nilly but they serviced a purpose for the time, Once the leak was repaired, instantly all the fire trucks and police leave at the same time, but you are now working frantically to finish up, and you pop your head out of the hole and see all the cars driving by and you realize that you did not put any cones out or traffic control out and your large truck in the oncoming lane facing forward and a 45 degrees blocking two lanes and people are honking and yelling at you for being an idiot. So yeah we had a big safety meeting about that one.
Sissonville actually has a fairly modern department. Almost all of the departments down there are well equipped due to the coal companies funding them.
I was a few miles away when it exploded and it was loud as hell. I was working at a cell tower and got out to see if I hit something. The jet engine sound was loud as well. The ground looked like a giant road flare had been placed there. it's amazing that no one was killed because it burned a few houses. Apparently one person was usually home but had just left when it burnt their house.
Yup, once it gets an ignition source either you say "lord here I come or be as far as you can be because that much gas going off you are going to burn for sure.
The Truman Show was a movie that came out in 1998, which follows Truman, who at birth was adopted by a TV studio, or the head of a TV studio (can't remember) and build a city and whole life for Truman. There were hidden cameras all around his house, his parents where actors, his best friend an actor. His wife was a plot point written in, and basically was forced on to Truman unknowing that she too, is an actor. Truman, who has a major fear of water, lives on this set, surrounded by water. He needs to cross a bridge to get out of town and never has because of his fear. Eventually he gets suspicious of the legitimacy of everything and decides to leave town and go on a spontaneous vacation. Obviously the creators only have the town as a set, and nothing else planned so they need ideas to prevent Truman from going further. One of which is a "forest fire" which blocks the road and Truman drives right through. You should check it out, it's actually a really good movie, and Jim Carry plays Truman.
Black Onyx the gas line n the ground somehow got ingnited and the gas keeps feeding the fire plus the oxygen so yea it'll burn long after they shut off gas to that line
Happened not too far from where I live. An industrial gas line burst. The roar is from the pressurized gas blasting out of the ruptured pipe. Aftermath was that the section of highway that went through that fire was completely destroyed. The asphalt was basically burned down to the small agrigate bits of rock and all the tar was burned away. The affected section had to be torn out and replaced with fresh asphalt.
When I was little, a truck backed into the head of a large underground propane tank next door and broke the head off of the tank. The propane miraculously never ignited but the sound of the gas rushing out was the loudest thing I've ever heard. I was outside at the time and it was deafening, and sounded like I was standing next to a fighter jet. It went on for 30 minutes, and all the fire dept could do was spray everything down with water to reduce ignition sources.
it was a 26-30 inch natural gas pipeline . 1 house was totally destroyed. the interstate was completely melted . nothing but base material was left. the state had it rebuilt in 24 hrs. there was no way to go around it also.
That's my home town. Very scary day! Glad you weren't a few minutes or seconds ahead....miraculously no one lost their life in that. Burnt 5 homes to the ground, two of those 5 blew up instantly. Not only was it going across all 4 lanes off I77, but jumped across Rt 21. The road you guys were on when you got off the exit. This is the best video I've seen of it so far.
Nah, he's in landscape. Otherwise you'd have a little box and not a full screen when you turn your phone...you did turn your phone before posting this, didn't you?.........
I was 4th year Sissonville Elementary school when this happened. At first, all of our teachers told us a plane had crashed and our power went out. They did not let us leave the school for fear of chemicals. The news reporter thought that the nursing house( which was only about a 1/2 a mile away) was on fire as well. I remember driving into Sissonville a few days later and looking at the burned roads and scorched siding on houses. That God there were no losses!
I lived a few miles north of where that pipeline broke. The man I worked for was a member of the Sissonville Volunteer FD and informed me of the incident. There were 2 houses close that set it off when it broke. Another house that was recently built across the road sustained damage from the inferno. Fortunately no one was home when it happened. I might add that they had trouble trying to shut the pipeline down.
They want to put a 36" high pressure gas pipeline on my land. I live in a rural area like the one where this explosion happened (this pipeline hadn't been inspected since 1988). This video literally makes me feel ill,. absolutely terrifying.

Those pipelines carry liquid that can have huge expansion ratios. Propane, for instance, 270:1. 1 gallon of liquid turns into 270 gallons of vapor. It sucks, but it just takes a long time to burn off. I have been on two pipeline ruptures in my 27 year career with the fire department. Stay safe.

Yeah that rumbling jet engine sound, that would be the fire still getting fed gas from the gas line. Something like that could explode at a moments notice.
Yep. When a natural gas pipeline breaks, you have to wait for someone in a warehouse two states away to notice the little blinking light so they can shut it off.
To be honest with you we breath that stuff in every day from the forest fires that are going on now to the cars that are jammed packed in big cities we breath it in every day.
I live less than 1 mile from this.On the other side of the road there are around7 to 10 homes it melted the siding on some of them thank god there was nobody around outside of them
The sound of that fire is incredible. Crazy what natural gas can do. I wonder how close people could get before burning themselves from the radiant heat
Why are they sitting there having a conversation....I would have crossed to the other side of the lane in 10 seconds.....He really doesn't know how quick those things can spread!
Hi Chris, My name is Scott Cannon and producing a video called "The Ethics of Fracking". It takes a look at fracking from a religious, scientific, and political perspective of the process. Would you allow me to use a few seconds of your explosion footage for the video? I can give you a credit at the end if you'd like.
Sounds like a good idea to me. Just because it would be a lie is no reason not to use a gas fire to argue against a method of extracting crude oil, which burns like a wood fire in your fireplace. If we can lie and make someone think its true, for a good reason, then of course it's OK. Man, if your arguments against fracking are truthful and convincing, there is no need to lie. It's only because you can't come up with honest facts that you need to lie about it.

Yeah, I live in PA. And I'm all for fracking. We need the work, and America needs the Energy. Not all of us get a Stipend from Tax Supported Lefty Organizations to be Professional Protesters.
thank you so much for filming it horizontally

OUR C A M P F I R E S O N G SONG
Hey Chris! I just stumbled upon this video and was surprised I haven't seen it before, what a wild moment... I'd like to ask permission to feature this clip in a future video of mine! You'd get credit both on screen, and a link in the description! Let me know, and thank you :)
Sorry guys it was me I ate too many chili & beans! :(
Nah i dumped 50 containers of grapes down and then i ate like 90 fire burritos
I hate when that happens!!
Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
All my memories gather round her
Miner's lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
I hear her voice, in the morning hour she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And driving down the road I get a feeling
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
Take me home, down country roads
Take me home, down country roads
Description says 1000 feet. That's no higher than 200 lol
A Potato I think the explosion is not in the video I sure don't see any explosions only fire.
+A Potato most people have no concept of distance when its straight up in the air
1,000,00*
+A Potato That is Balrog dude
Johnny Bones That's not even a number (included with the commas.)
I live about 10 miles upon fisher ridge from where it happened and the sound vibrated our windows.
Fossil fuels make life more exciting.
notrombones smell of gas gives me a some type of tasty feeling
The smell of solar gives me something to jack off to

There's always a few people that need more information before they can make a decision on the danger. These are the ones that die. The ones that react are the ones that save lives or live. (sometimes both!)
Yeah that rumbling jet engine sound, that would be the fire still getting fed gas from the gas line. Something like that could explode at a moments notice.
DARWIN AWARD!!!
Major explosion and fire and the dummies walk toward the fire.
Dude people are turning around.!?.!?.!? Duhhh..... I wonder why?
And this is exactly why Michael Moore should stop lighting his farts.
Yep. When a natural gas pipeline breaks, you have to wait for someone in a warehouse two states away to notice the little blinking light so they can shut it off.
"It's a gas line..." No, it WAS a gas line...
It was repaired and still used. It IS a gasline
That would clear the bugs off your windshield for sure.
Children in Africa could've breath that gas, what a waste!
Lmao 😂
Tremor244 breathED not breath!
To be honest with you we breath that stuff in every day from the forest fires that are going on now to the cars that are jammed packed in big cities we breath it in every day.
I live less than 1 mile from this.On the other side of the road there are around7 to 10 homes it melted the siding on some of them thank god there was nobody around outside of them
*I THINK IT'S A FOREST FIRE!?* mfw the flames are like 200 feet up
Turn on the heat...it is cold outside!
Marshmallows... anyone?

*Incinerated marshmallows anyone?
Yeah bro I got you.
The roar is insane. Sounds like a turbo jet. I'm surprised it didn't spread more than it did. Pretty cool video for real.
lol somehow youtube recommended me this right after watching Fallout 76 Trailer (based in West Virginia)
The sound of that fire is incredible. Crazy what natural gas can do. I wonder how close people could get before burning themselves from the radiant heat
I imagine you really could not get close. I have had 5 foot flame bonfires 2in diameter in my backyard and I had to stand way back
'Yeh, you see that?' 'No, see what?'
Why are they sitting there having a conversation....I would have crossed to the other side of the lane in 10 seconds.....He really doesn't know how quick those things can spread!
why must people yell into the fucking camera?
It adds emotional weight to the scene, improving the video's aesthetics. You need to brush up on basic level communications theory.
think about what they hear with their ears. the phone doesn't pick up the really loud parts and it sounds like a jet engine even through the phone
BUT SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!
WE NEED TO GET A LITTLE CLOSER TO THIS HUGE FUCKING EXPLOSION!!!!!
I GOTTA SEE WHAT IT IS!!!!!!!
FUCKING MORONS!!!!!!!!!!!!
the same reason they stop right in the middle of the road instead of pulling out of the way
Thanks for bringing this to us.
3:01 oh thank god the police are here
i like how the camera is never on focus

Link no longer works in description. Not surprised. Video was 8 years ago. Gave it a shot anyway.
Hi Chris,
My name is Scott Cannon and producing a video called "The Ethics of Fracking".
