To be fair, I was on a high profile job, and we had the road closures, police multiple fire trucks, our trucks were parked whilly nilly but they serviced a purpose for the time, Once the leak was repaired, instantly all the fire trucks and police leave at the same time, but you are now working frantically to finish up, and you pop your head out of the hole and see all the cars driving by and you realize that you did not put any cones out or traffic control out and your large truck in the oncoming lane facing forward and a 45 degrees blocking two lanes and people are honking and yelling at you for being an idiot. So yeah we had a big safety meeting about that one.

Sissonville actually has a fairly modern department. Almost all of the departments down there are well equipped due to the coal companies funding them.

I was a few miles away when it exploded and it was loud as hell. I was working at a cell tower and got out to see if I hit something. The jet engine sound was loud as well. The ground looked like a giant road flare had been placed there. it's amazing that no one was killed because it burned a few houses. Apparently one person was usually home but had just left when it burnt their house.

The Truman Show was a movie that came out in 1998, which follows Truman, who at birth was adopted by a TV studio, or the head of a TV studio (can't remember) and build a city and whole life for Truman. There were hidden cameras all around his house, his parents where actors, his best friend an actor. His wife was a plot point written in, and basically was forced on to Truman unknowing that she too, is an actor.
Truman, who has a major fear of water, lives on this set, surrounded by water. He needs to cross a bridge to get out of town and never has because of his fear.
Eventually he gets suspicious of the legitimacy of everything and decides to leave town and go on a spontaneous vacation. Obviously the creators only have the town as a set, and nothing else planned so they need ideas to prevent Truman from going further. One of which is a "forest fire" which blocks the road and Truman drives right through.
You should check it out, it's actually a really good movie, and Jim Carry plays Truman.

Happened not too far from where I live. An industrial gas line burst. The roar is from the pressurized gas blasting out of the ruptured pipe. Aftermath was that the section of highway that went through that fire was completely destroyed. The asphalt was basically burned down to the small agrigate bits of rock and all the tar was burned away. The affected section had to be torn out and replaced with fresh asphalt.

When I was little, a truck backed into the head of a large underground propane tank next door and broke the head off of the tank. The propane miraculously never ignited but the sound of the gas rushing out was the loudest thing I've ever heard. I was outside at the time and it was deafening, and sounded like I was standing next to a fighter jet. It went on for 30 minutes, and all the fire dept could do was spray everything down with water to reduce ignition sources.

I was 4th year Sissonville Elementary school when this happened. At first, all of our teachers told us a plane had crashed and our power went out. They did not let us leave the school for fear of chemicals. The news reporter thought that the nursing house( which was only about a 1/2 a mile away) was on fire as well. I remember driving into Sissonville a few days later and looking at the burned roads and scorched siding on houses. That God there were no losses!

I lived a few miles north of where that pipeline broke. The man I worked for was a member of the Sissonville Volunteer FD and informed me of the incident. There were 2 houses close that set it off when it broke. Another house that was recently built across the road sustained damage from the inferno. Fortunately no one was home when it happened. I might add that they had trouble trying to shut the pipeline down.

Those pipelines carry liquid that can have huge expansion ratios. Propane, for instance, 270:1. 1 gallon of liquid turns into 270 gallons of vapor. It sucks, but it just takes a long time to burn off. I have been on two pipeline ruptures in my 27 year career with the fire department. Stay safe.

I work in this industry, and I can tell you that these incidents are few and far between. And to those commenting about the cleanliness of natural gas, a very small amount of research into the chemical compositions of all the fossil fuels the world currently burns for energy, as well as the combustion process will tell you natural gas is cleaner.

The gas remaining in the other side of the pipe is burning out faster than the supply side, that’s why it’s burning on both sides at different rates.

"Save Our Unspoiled Land" is eco-speak for "keep rural America poor". You know how many LOCAL JOBS, from truckers and mechanics to geologists and engineers to data analysts and quality control, shipping clerks, and office admin support can be created from the energy industry? How many jobs with upward mobility can be had at Entry Level with just a high school diploma?
You think a Starbucks or a Trader Joe or a Whole Foods will ever come into an area where NO ONE has a decent paying JOB and the extra disposable INCOME to spend on things they sell? You have any clue how many carpenters, electricians, masons and landscapers could expand THEIR businesses to SERVE the folks with decent enough jobs to buy HOUSES? How many LAYERS OF TAX REVENUE will go to The State from the Busness, Income, and Sales Taxes paid by all these folks ? Taxes to fund schools and Senior Citizens? You have any clue at all about economic reality, and WHERE taxes come from? It doesnt come from "the government" it comes from folks with JOBS.
Yeah, I live in PA. And I'm all for fracking. We need the work, and America needs the Energy. Not all of us get a Stipend from Tax Supported Lefty Organizations to be Professional Protesters.

All my memories gather round her

Would you allow me to use a few seconds of your explosion footage for the video? I can give you a credit at the end if you'd like.

    • @cliftondean4333
      @cliftondean4333 6 років тому

Sounds like a good idea to me. Just because it would be a lie is no reason not to use a gas fire to argue against a method of extracting crude oil, which burns like a wood fire in your fireplace. If we can lie and make someone think its true, for a good reason, then of course it's OK. Man, if your arguments against fracking are truthful and convincing, there is no need to lie. It's only because you can't come up with honest facts that you need to lie about it.
